Deuteronomio 7
1 Cuando Yahvé vuestro Dios te introduzca en la tierra a la que vas a entrar para poseerla, y eche a muchas naciones delante de ti — los hititas, los gergeseos, los amorreos, los cananeos, los ferezeos, los heveos y los jebuseos- siete naciones más grandes y poderosas que tú;
When the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land, which thou art going in to possess, and shall have destroyed many nations before thee, the Hethite, and the Gergezite, and the Amorrhite, and the Chanaanite, and the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite, seven nations much more numerous than thou art, and stronger than thou:
2 y cuando Yahvé vuestro Dios las entregue delante de ti, y tú las golpees, entonces las derrotes por completo. No harás ningún pacto con ellos, ni te apiadarás de ellos.
And the Lord thy God shall have delivered them to thee, thou shalt utterly destroy them. Thou shalt make no league with them, nor shew mercy to them:
3 No harás matrimonios con ellos. No darás tu hija a su hijo, ni tomarás su hija para tu hijo.
Neither shalt thou make marriages with them. Thou shalt not give thy daughter to his son, nor take his daughter for thy son:
4 Porque eso haría que tus hijos dejaran de seguirme, para servir a otros dioses. Entonces la ira del Señor se encenderá contra ustedes, y los destruiría rápidamente.
For she will turn away thy son from following me, that he may rather serve strange gods, and the wrath of the Lord will be kindled, and will quickly destroy thee.
5 Pero tú te encargarás de ellos de la siguiente manera: derribaréis sus altares, haréis pedazos sus columnas, cortaréis sus postes de Asera y quemareis sus imágenes grabadas con fuego.
But thus rather shall you deal with them: Destroy their altars, and break their statues, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven things.
6 Porque ustedes son un pueblo santo para el Señor, su Dios. El Señor, tu Dios, te ha elegido como pueblo propio, por encima de todos los pueblos que hay sobre la faz de la tierra.
Because thou art a holy people to the Lord thy God. The Lord thy God hath chosen thee, to be his peculiar people of all peoples that are upon the earth.
7 Yahvé no puso su amor en vosotros ni te eligió porque fueras más numeroso que cualquier otro pueblo, pues vosotros erais el más pequeño de todos los pueblos;
Not because you surpass all nations in number, is the Lord joined unto you, and hath chosen you, for you are the fewest of any people:
8 sino porque Yahvé os ama, y porque quiere cumplir el juramento que juró a vuestros padres, Yahvé os ha sacado con mano poderosa y os ha redimido de la casa de servidumbre, de la mano del faraón, rey de Egipto.
But because the Lord hath loved you, and hath kept his oath, which he swore to your fathers: and hath brought you out with a strong hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, out of the hand of Pharao the king of Egypt.
9 Sabed, pues, que el propio Yahvé, vuestro Dios, es Dios, el Dios fiel, que mantiene la alianza y la bondad amorosa hasta mil generaciones con los que le aman y guardan sus mandamientos,
And thou shalt know that the Lord thy God, he is a strong and faithful God, keeping his covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments, unto a thousand generations:
10 y devuelve su pago a los que le odian en la misma cara, destruyéndolos. No será indulgente con el que le odia. Se lo pagará en la cara.
And repaying forthwith them that hate him, so as to destroy them, without further delay immediately rendering to them what they deserve.
11 Por lo tanto, guardarás los mandamientos, los estatutos y las ordenanzas que hoy te ordeno, para ponerlos en práctica.
Keep therefore the precepts and ceremonies and judgments, which I command thee this day to do.
12 Sucederá que, porque escuchas estas ordenanzas y las guardas y las pones en práctica, el Señor, tu Dios, mantendrá contigo el pacto y la misericordia que juró a tus padres.
If after thou hast heard these judgments, thou keep and do them, the Lord thy God will also keep his covenant to thee, and the mercy which he swore to thy fathers:
13 Él te amará, te bendecirá y te multiplicará. También bendecirá el fruto de tu cuerpo y el fruto de tu tierra, tu grano y tu vino nuevo y tu aceite, el aumento de tu ganado y las crías de tu rebaño, en la tierra que juró a tus padres que te daría.
And he will love thee and multiply thee, and will bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy vintage, thy oil, and thy herds, and the flocks of thy sheep upon the land, for which he swore to thy fathers that he would give it thee.
14 Serás bendecido sobre todos los pueblos. No habrá macho ni hembra estéril entre vosotros, ni entre vuestros ganados.
Blessed shalt thou be among all people. No one shall be barren among you of either sex, neither of men nor cattle.
15 El Señor quitará de ti toda enfermedad; y no pondrá sobre ti ninguna de las malas enfermedades de Egipto, que tú conoces, sino que las pondrá sobre todos los que te odian.
The Lord will take away from thee all sickness: and the grievous infirmities of Egypt, which thou knowest, he will not bring upon thee, but upon thy enemies.
16 Consumirás a todos los pueblos que el Señor, tu Dios, te entregue. Tu ojo no se compadecerá de ellos. No servirás a sus dioses, porque eso sería una trampa para ti.
Thou shalt consume all the people, which the Lord thy God will deliver to thee. Thy eye shall not spare them, neither shalt thou serve their gods, lest they be thy ruin.
17 Si dices en tu corazón: “Estas naciones son más que yo; ¿cómo podré despojarlas?”
If thou say in thy heart: These nations are more than I, how shall I be able to destroy them?
18 no les tendrás miedo. Recordarás bien lo que Yahvé vuestro Dios hizo al Faraón y a todo Egipto:
Fear not, but remember what the Lord thy God did to Pharao and to all the Egyptians,
19 las grandes pruebas que vieron tus ojos, las señales, los prodigios, la mano poderosa y el brazo extendido con que Yahvé vuestro Dios te sacó. Así hará Yahvé vuestro Dios con todos los pueblos de los que tienes miedo.
The exceeding great plagues, which thy eyes saw, and the signs and wonders, and the strong hand, and the stretched out arm, with which the Lord thy God brought thee out: so will he do to all the people, whom thou fearest.
20 Además, Yahvé vuestro Dios enviará el avispero entre ellos, hasta que los que queden, y se escondan, perezcan ante ti.
Moreover the Lord thy God will send also hornets among them, until he destroy and consume all that have escaped thee, and could hide themselves.
21 No te asustarás de ellos, porque el Señor tu Dios está en medio de ti, un Dios grande y temible.
Thou shalt not fear them, because the Lord thy God is in the midst of thee, a God mighty and terrible:
22 El Señor, tu Dios, expulsará a esas naciones ante ti poco a poco. No las consumirás de una sola vez, no sea que los animales del campo aumenten sobre ti.
He will consume these nations in thy sight by little and little and by degrees. Thou wilt not be able to destroy them altogether: lest perhaps the beasts of the earth should increase upon thee.
23 Pero el Señor, tu Dios, las entregará delante de ti, y las confundirá con una gran confusión, hasta destruirlas.
But the Lord thy God shall deliver them in thy sight: and shall slay them until they be utterly destroyed.
24 Entregará a sus reyes en tu mano, y harás que su nombre desaparezca de debajo del cielo. Nadie podrá presentarse ante ti hasta que los hayas destruido.
And he shall deliver their kings into thy hands, and thou shalt destroy their names from under Heaven: no man shall be able to resist thee, until thou destroy them.
25 Quemarás con fuego las imágenes grabadas de sus dioses. No codiciarás la plata ni el oro que hay en ellas, ni lo tomarás para ti, para que no quedes atrapado en él; porque es una abominación para Yahvé vuestro Dios.
Their graven things thou shalt burn with fire: thou shalt not covet the silver and gold of which they are made, neither shalt thou take to thee any thing thereof, lest thou offend, because it is an abomination to the Lord thy God.
26 No meterás una abominación en tu casa para que no seas anatema como ella. La aborrecerás por completo. La detestarás por completo, porque es anatema.
Neither shalt thou bring any thing of the idol into thy house, lest thou become an anathema, like it. Thou shalt detest it as dung, and shalt utterly abhor it as uncleanness and filth, because it is an anathema.
