Deuteronomio 5
1 Moisés llamó a todo Israel y les dijo: “Escucha, Israel, los estatutos y las ordenanzas que hoy les hablo en sus oídos, para que los aprendan y cuiden de cumplirlos.”
Then Moses called all the Israelites together and told them: Listen, people of Israel to the rules and regulations that I'm giving you today. Learn them and make sure you follow them carefully.
2 Yahvé, nuestro Dios, hizo un pacto con nosotros en Horeb.
Remember that the Lord our God made an agreement with us at Horeb.
3 Yahvé no hizo este pacto con nuestros padres, sino con nosotros, que somos todos los que estamos aquí vivos hoy.
He didn't make this agreement with our fathers, but with us, all of those who are still alive today.
4 Yahvé habló con ustedes cara a cara en el monte, en medio del fuego,
The Lord talked with you person to person from the fire on the mountain.
5 (yo me interpuse entre Yahvé y ustedes en ese momento, para mostrarles la palabra de Yahvé; porque vosotros tuvisteis miedo a causa del fuego y no subieron al monte) diciendo,
This was the time when I stood between the Lord and you to tell you what the Lord said, because you were afraid of the fire and refused to go up the mountain. He told you,
6 “Yo soy Yahvé, tu Dios, que te sacó de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de la esclavitud.
“I am the Lord your God, who led you out of Egypt, out of the prison-house of slavery.
7 “No tendréis otros dioses delante de mí.
You must not have any other gods except me.
8 “No te harás ninguna imagen tallada, ni ninguna semejanza de lo que está arriba en el cielo, ni de lo que está abajo en la tierra, ni de lo que está en las aguas debajo de la tierra.
You must not make for yourself any kind of idol, whether in the form of anything in the heavens above, or on the earth beneath, or in the waters below.
9 No te inclinarás ante ellas, ni las servirás, porque yo, Yahvé vuestro Dios, soy un Dios celoso, que visita la iniquidad de los padres en los hijos y en la tercera y cuarta generación de los que me odian
You must not bow down before them or worship them; for I am the Lord your God and I am passionately exclusive. I lay the consequences of the sin of those who hate me on their sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons;
10 y que muestra bondad amorosa a miles de los que me aman y guardan mis mandamientos.
but I show trustworthy love to the thousands of generations who love me and keep my commandments.
11 “No harás mal uso del nombre de Yahvé, tu Dios; porque Yahvé no declarará inocente al que haga mal uso de su nombre.
You must not use the name of the Lord your God in a wrong way, for the Lord will not forgive anyone who uses his name in a wrong way.
12 “Observa el día de reposo, para santificarlo, como te lo ordenó Yahvé vuestro Dios.
Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, as the Lord as the Lord your God has commanded you to do.
13 Trabajarás seis días y harás todo tu trabajo;
You have six days to work and earn your living,
14 pero el séptimo día es sábado para Yahvé vuestro Dios, en el cual no harás ningún trabajo, ni tú, ni tu hijo, ni tu hija, ni tu siervo, ni tu sierva, ni tu buey, ni tu asno, ni ninguno de tus animales, ni tu extranjero que esté dentro de tus puertas; para que tu siervo y tu sierva descansen como tú.
but the seventh day is the Sabbath to honor the Lord your God. On this day you must not do any work—not you, not your son or daughter, not your male slave or female slave or your ox or donkey or any of your livestock, and not the foreigner who is staying with you, so that your male slave and females slave can have the same rest as you.
15 Recordarás que fuiste siervo en la tierra de Egipto, y que el Señor tu Dios te sacó de allí con mano poderosa y brazo extendido. Por eso el Señor, tu Dios, te ordenó que guardes el día de reposo.
Remember that you were once slaves in Egypt, and that the Lord your God led you out from there with his great power and incredible strength. This is why the Lord your God has ordered you to keep the Sabbath day.
16 “Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, como te ha ordenado Yahvé vuestro Dios, para que tus días se alarguen y te vaya bien en la tierra que Yahvé vuestro Dios te da.
Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you to do, so that you may live a long time and do well in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
17 “No matarás.
You must not kill people.
18 “No cometerás adulterio.
You must not commit adultery.
19 “No robarás.
You must not steal.
20 “No darás falso testimonio contra tu prójimo.
You must not give false evidence against others.
21 “No codiciarás la mujer de tu prójimo. Tampoco desearás la casa de tu prójimo, ni su campo, ni su siervo, ni su sierva, ni su buey, ni su asno, ni nada que sea de tu prójimo”.
You must not desire to have anyone else's wife. You must not desire to have their house or field, or their male slave or female slave, or their ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to them.”
22 El Señor dijo estas palabras a toda tu asamblea en la montaña, en medio del fuego, de la nube y de la espesa oscuridad, con una gran voz. No añadió nada más. Las escribió en dos tablas de piedra y me las dio.
In a loud voice the Lord gave these commandments to all of you, speaking from the fire, the cloud, and the deep darkness that covered the mountain. He didn't add anything else. He wrote them down on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.
23 Cuando oísteis la voz en medio de las tinieblas, mientras la montaña ardía en fuego, os acercasteis a mí, todos los jefes de vuestras tribus y vuestros ancianos;
When you heard the voice that came from the darkness while the mountain was on fire, all your tribal leaders and elders came to me,
24 y dijisteis: “He aquí que el Señor, nuestro Dios, nos ha mostrado su gloria y su grandeza, y hemos oído su voz en medio del fuego. Hoy hemos visto que Dios habla con el hombre, y él vive.
and said, “Listen, the Lord our God has revealed glory and majesty to us, and we have heard his voice that came from the fire. Today we have seen that human beings can don't die even when God speaks with them.
25 Ahora, pues, ¿por qué hemos de morir? Porque este gran fuego nos consumirá. Si seguimos oyendo la voz de Yahvé, nuestro Dios, moriremos.
But we could still die, couldn't we? This enormous fire is going to burn us up, and we'll die if the Lord our God continues to speak to us.
26 Porque ¿quién hay de toda carne que haya oído la voz del Dios vivo hablando desde el medio del fuego, como nosotros, y haya vivido?
Has anybody else ever heard the living God speak from the fire and survived, we have?
27 Acércate y escucha todo lo que diga Yahvé nuestro Dios, y cuéntanos todo lo que te diga Yahvé nuestro Dios; y lo oiremos y lo haremos.”
You go and listen to everything the Lord our God tells you. Then you can repeat to us everything the Lord our God tells you. We promise to listen and obey.”
28 Yahvé oyó la voz de tus palabras cuando me hablaste; y Yahvé me dijo: “He oído la voz de las palabras de este pueblo que te han dicho. Han dicho bien todo lo que han dicho.
The Lord heard what you told me, and he said to me, “I've heard what these people told you. All that they've said is good.
29 ¡Oh, si hubiera en ellos un corazón tal que me temieran y guardaran siempre todos mis mandamientos, para que les fuera bien a ellos y a sus hijos para siempre!
I only wish they really did respect me and always kept my commandments so that they and their children would do well for all time.
30 “Ve y diles: ‘Volved a vuestras tiendas’.
Go and tell them: ‘You need to return to your tents.’
31 Pero en cuanto a ti, quédate aquí junto a mí, y te diré todos los mandamientos, los estatutos y las ordenanzas que les enseñarás, para que los cumplan en la tierra que les doy en posesión.”
But you are to stay here with me so that I can give you all the commandments and rules and regulations you are to teach them to follow in the country that I am giving them to take over and own.”
32 Por lo tanto, deberás hacer lo que el Señor, tu Dios, te ha ordenado. No te desviarás ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.
So make sure you do what the Lord your God has ordered you to do—don't go astray in any direction.
33 Caminarás por todo el camino que Yahvé vuestro Dios te ha ordenado, para que vivas y te vaya bien, y para que prolongues tus días en la tierra que vas a poseer.
Follow all the ways the Lord your God has shown you, so that you do well and live long lives in the country that you will occupy.
