Deuteronomio 4
1 Ahora bien, Israel, escucha los estatutos y las ordenanzas que yo te enseño, para que los cumplas, a fin de que vivas y entres y poseas la tierra que Yahvé, el Dios de tus padres, te da.
Now therefore hearken, O Israel, to the statutes and to the judgments, which I teach you, to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.
2 No añadirás a la palabra que te mando, ni la quitarás, para que guardes los mandamientos de Yahvé, tu Dios, que yo te mando.
Ye shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish any thing from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
3 Tus ojos han visto lo que Yahvé hizo a causa de Baal Peor; porque Yahvé vuestro Dios ha destruido de entre ustedes a todos los hombres que seguían a Baal Peor.
Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baalpeor: for all the men that followed Baalpeor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you.
4 Pero ustedes que fueron fieles a Yahvé su Dios están todos vivos hoy.
But ye who held fast to the LORD your God are alive each one of you this day.
5 He aquí que yo os he enseñado los estatutos y las ordenanzas, tal como Yahvé, mi Dios, me lo ha ordenado, para que lo hagáis en medio de la tierra donde entréis a poseerla.
Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land where ye go to possess it.
6 Guarda, pues, y ponedlos por obra; porque ésta es tu sabiduría y tu entendimiento a los ojos de los pueblos que oirán todos estos estatutos y dirán: “Ciertamente esta gran nación es un pueblo sabio y entendido.”
Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
7 Porque ¿qué gran nación hay que tenga un dios tan cercano a ella como lo está Yahvé, nuestro Dios, cada vez que lo invocamos?
For what nation is there so great, which hath God so near to them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
8 ¿Qué gran nación hay que tenga estatutos y ordenanzas tan justos como toda esta ley que hoy pongo ante ustedes?
And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?
9 Sólo ten cuidado, y guarda tu alma con diligencia, para que no olvides las cosas que vieron tus ojos, y para que no se aparten de tu corazón todos los días de tu vida; pero dáselas a conocer a tus hijos y a los hijos de tus hijos —
Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou shouldest forget the things which thy eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them to thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;
10 el día en que estuviste frente a Yahvé vuestro Dios en Horeb, cuando Yahvé me dijo: “Reúne al pueblo hacia mí, y les haré oír mis palabras, para que aprendan a temerme todos los días que vivan sobre la tierra, y para que enseñen a sus hijos.”
Especially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said to me, Gather the people to me, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.
11 Te acercaste y te pusiste debajo de la montaña. La montaña ardía con fuego hasta el corazón del cielo, con oscuridad, nubes y densas tinieblas.
And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire to the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.
12 El Señor os habló desde el centro del fuego: oísteis la voz de las palabras, pero no visteis ninguna forma; sólo oísteis una voz.
And the LORD spoke to you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.
13 Os declaró su pacto, que os ordenó cumplir, los diez mandamientos. Los escribió en dos tablas de piedra.
And he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.
14 El Señor me ordenó en aquel tiempo que os enseñara los estatutos y los reglamentos, para que los pusierais en práctica en la tierra a la que pasáis para poseerla.
And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land where ye go over to possess it.
15 Tened mucho cuidado, porque no visteis ningún tipo de forma el día en que Yahvé os habló en Horeb desde el centro del fuego,
Take ye therefore good heed to yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spoke to you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:
16 no sea que os corrompáis y os hagáis una imagen tallada en forma de cualquier figura, la semejanza de un macho o de una hembra,
Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make to you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
17 la semejanza de cualquier animal que esté en la tierra, la semejanza de cualquier ave alada que vuele en el cielo,
The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,
18 la semejanza de cualquier cosa que se arrastre por el suelo, la semejanza de cualquier pez que esté en el agua bajo la tierra;
The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:
19 y no sea que alces tus ojos al cielo, y al ver el sol, la luna y las estrellas, todo el ejército del cielo, te sientas atraído y los adores, y los sirvas, que Yahvé vuestro Dios ha asignado a todos los pueblos bajo todo el cielo.
And lest thou shouldest lift up thy eyes to heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided to all nations under the whole heaven.
20 Pero Yahvé os ha tomado y os ha sacado del horno de hierro, de Egipto, para que seáis para él un pueblo de herencia, como lo es hoy.
But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you out of the iron furnace, even from Egypt, to be to him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day.
21 Además, Yahvé se enojó conmigo por causa de vosotros, y juró que no debía pasar el Jordán, y que no debía entrar en esa buena tierra que Yahvé, su Dios, les da como herencia;
Furthermore the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and swore that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not enter that good land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance:
22 sino que debo morir en esta tierra. No debo pasar el Jordán, sino que vosotros pasaréis y poseeréis esa buena tierra.
But I must die in this land, I must not go over Jordan: but ye shall go over, and possess that good land.
23 Tengan cuidado, no sea que se olviden del pacto de Yahvé vuestro Dios, que él hizo con vosotros, y hagáis una imagen tallada en forma de cualquier cosa que Yahvé vuestro Dios les haya prohibido.
Take heed to yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee.
24 Porque el Señor tu Dios es un fuego devorador, un Dios celoso.
For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
25 Cuando engendréis hijos e hijos de los hijos, y hayáis permanecido mucho tiempo en la tierra, y os corrompáis, y os hagáis una imagen tallada en forma de cualquier cosa, y hagáis lo que es malo a los ojos de Yahvé vuestro Dios para provocarlo a la ira,
When thou shalt beget children, and children’s children, and ye shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, and shall do evil in the sight of the LORD thy God, to provoke him to anger:
26 Yo llamo a los cielos y a la tierra para que atestigüen hoy contra vosotros, que pronto pereceréis totalmente de la tierra que pasáis al otro lado del Jordán para poseerla. No prolongaréis vuestros días en ella, sino que seréis totalmente destruidos.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from the land where ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall be utterly destroyed.
27 El Señor os dispersará entre los pueblos, y quedaréis pocos en número entre las naciones a las que el Señor os lleve.
And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, where the LORD shall lead you.
28 Allí serviréis a dioses, obra de manos de hombres, madera y piedra, que no ven, ni oyen, ni comen, ni huelen.
And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.
29 Pero desde allí buscarás al Señor tu Dios, y lo encontrarás cuando lo busques con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma.
But if from there thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou shalt seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
30 Cuando estés oprimido, y todas estas cosas hayan caído sobre ti, en los últimos días volverás a Yahvé vuestro Dios y escucharás su voz.
When thou art in tribulation, and all these things have come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou shalt turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient to his voice;
31 Porque el Señor, tu Dios, es un Dios misericordioso. No te fallará ni te destruirá, ni olvidará el pacto de tus padres que les juró.
(For the LORD thy God is a merciful God; ) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he swore to them.
32 Porque pregunta ahora de los días pasados, que fueron antes de ti, desde el día en que Dios creó al hombre sobre la tierra, y desde un extremo del cielo hasta el otro, si ha habido algo tan grande como esto, o se ha oído como esto?
For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven to the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?
33 ¿Acaso un pueblo ha escuchado alguna vez la voz de Dios hablando desde el medio del fuego, como tú has escuchado, y ha vivido?
Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?
34 ¿O ha tratado Dios de ir a tomar una nación para sí de entre otra nación, con pruebas, con señales, con prodigios, con guerra, con mano poderosa, con brazo extendido y con grandes terrores, según todo lo que Yahvé vuestro Dios hizo por ti en Egipto ante tus ojos?
Or hath God ever tried to go and take for himself a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
35 Se te mostró para que supieras que Yahvé es Dios. No hay nadie más que él.
To thee it was shown, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none besides him.
36 Desde el cielo te hizo oír su voz para instruirte. En la tierra te hizo ver su gran fuego, y en medio del fuego oíste sus palabras.
Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he showed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his words from the midst of the fire.
37 Porque amó a vuestros padres, eligió a su descendencia después de ellos, y os sacó con su presencia, con su gran poder, de Egipto;
And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out of Egypt; in his sight with his mighty power;
38 para expulsar de delante de vosotros a naciones más grandes y más poderosas que vosotros, para introduciros, para daros su tierra en herencia, como hoy.
To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.
39 Sabed, pues, hoy, y tomadlo a pecho, que el mismo Yahvé es Dios en lo alto del cielo y en lo bajo de la tierra. No hay nadie más.
Know therefore this day, and consider it in thy heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.
40 Guardarás sus estatutos y sus mandamientos que hoy te ordeno, para que te vaya bien a ti y a tus hijos después de ti, y para que prolongues tus días en la tierra que el Señor, tu Dios, te da para siempre.
Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may be well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever.
41 Entonces Moisés apartó tres ciudades al otro lado del Jordán, hacia la salida del sol,
Then Moses set apart three cities on the side of Jordan toward the sunrising;
42 para que huyera allí el homicida que matara a su prójimo sin querer y que no lo hubiera odiado en el pasado, y para que huyendo a una de estas ciudades pudiera vivir:
That the slayer might flee there, who should kill his neighbour unintentionally, and when he had not hated him in times past; and that fleeing to one of these cities he might live:
43 Beser en el desierto, en la llanura, para los rubenitas; y Ramot en Galaad para los gaditas; y Golán en Basán para los tribu de Manases.
Namely, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, of the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, of the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, of the Manassites.
44 Esta es la ley que Moisés puso delante de los hijos de Israel.
And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:
45 Estos son los testimonios, los estatutos y los reglamentos que Moisés habló a los hijos de Israel cuando salieron de Egipto,
These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses spoke to the children of Israel, after they came forth from Egypt,
46 al otro lado del Jordán, en el valle frente a Bet Peor, en la tierra de Sehón, rey de los amorreos, que vivía en Hesbón, a quien Moisés y los hijos de Israel hirieron cuando salieron de Egipto.
On the east side of Jordan, in the valley opposite Bethpeor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote, after they had come forth from Egypt:
47 Tomaron posesión de su tierra y de la tierra de Og, rey de Basán, los dos reyes de los amorreos, que estaban al otro lado del Jordán, hacia la salida del sol;
And they possessed his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, who were on the side of Jordan toward the sunrising;
48 desde Aroer, que está a la orilla del valle de Arnón, hasta el monte Sión (también llamado Hermón),
From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even to mount Sion, which is Hermon,
49 y todo el Arabá al otro lado del Jordán, hacia el este, hasta el mar del Arabá, bajo las laderas de Pisga.
And all the plain on the side of Jordan eastward, even to the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.
