Deuteronomio 28
1 Si escuchas atentamente la voz del Señor, tu Dios, y cumples todos los mandamientos que hoy te ordeno, el Señor, tu Dios, te pondrá en alto sobre todas las naciones de la tierra.
Now if thou wilt hear the voice of the Lord thy God, to do and keep all his commandments, which I command thee this day, the Lord thy God will make thee higher than all the nations that are on the earth.
2 Todas estas bendiciones vendrán sobre ti y te alcanzarán, si escuchas la voz de Yahvé vuestro Dios.
And all these blessings shall come upon thee and overtake thee: yet so if thou hear his precepts,
3 Serás bendecido en la ciudad, y serás bendecido en el campo.
Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed in the field.
4 Serás bendecido en el fruto de tu cuerpo, en el fruto de tu tierra, en el fruto de tus animales, en la cría de tu ganado y en las crías de tu rebaño.
Blessed shall be the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the droves of thy herds, and the folds of thy sheep.
5 Serán bendecidos tu cesto y tu artesa de amasar.
Blessed shall be thy barns and blessed thy stores.
6 Serás bendecido cuando entres, y serás bendecido cuando salgas.
Blessed shalt thou be coming in and going out.
7 El Señor hará que tus enemigos que se levanten contra ti sean golpeados delante de ti. Saldrán contra ti por un camino, y huirán ante ti por siete caminos.
The Lord shall cause thy enemies, that rise up against thee, to fall down before thy face: one way shall they come out against thee, and seven ways shall they flee before thee.
8 El Señor ordenará que te bendigan en tus graneros y en todo lo que hagas. Te bendecirá en la tierra que el Señor, tu Dios, te da.
The Lord will send forth a blessing upon thy storehouses, and upon all the works of thy hands: and will bless thee in the land that thou shalt receive.
9 El Señor te establecerá como pueblo santo para sí mismo, como te ha jurado, si guardas los mandamientos del Señor tu Dios y andas en sus caminos.
The Lord will raise thee up to be a holy people to himself, as he swore to thee: if thou keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways.
10 Todos los pueblos de la tierra verán que ustedes son llamados por el nombre de Yahvé, y tendrán miedo de ustedes.
And all the people of the earth shall see that the name of the Lord is invocated upon thee, and they shall fear thee.
11 Yahvé te concederá abundante prosperidad en el fruto de tu cuerpo, en el fruto de tu ganado y en el fruto de tu tierra, en la tierra que Yahvé juró a tus padres que te daría.
The Lord will make thee abound with all goods, with the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy cattle, with the fruit of thy land, which the Lord swore to thy fathers that he would give thee.
12 El Señor te abrirá su buen tesoro en el cielo, para dar la lluvia de tu tierra a su tiempo, y para bendecir toda la obra de tu mano. Prestarás a muchas naciones, y no pedirás prestado.
The Lord will open his excellent treasure, the heaven, that it may give rain in due season: and he will bless all the works of thy hands. And thou shalt lend to many nations, and shalt not borrow of any one.
13 El Señor te hará ser la cabeza y no la cola. Sólo estarás arriba, y no estarás abajo, si escuchas los mandamientos de Yahvé vuestro Dios que hoy te ordeno, para que los cumplas y los pongas en práctica,
And the Lord shall make thee the head and not the tail: and thou shalt be always above, and not beneath: yet so if thou wilt hear the commandments of the Lord thy God which I command thee this day, and keep and do them,
14 y no te apartes de ninguna de las palabras que hoy te ordeno, ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, para ir en pos de otros dioses para servirles.
And turn not away from them neither to the right hand, nor to the left, nor follow strange gods, nor worship them.
15 Pero si no escuchas la voz del Señor, tu Dios, para cumplir con todos sus mandamientos y sus estatutos que hoy te ordeno, todas estas maldiciones caerán sobre ti y te alcanzarán.
But if thou wilt not hear the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep and to do all his commandments and ceremonies, which I command thee this day, all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee.
16 Serás maldecido en la ciudad, y serás maldecido en el campo.
Cursed shalt thou be in the city, cursed in the field.
17 Tu cesto y tu artesa serán malditos.
Cursed shall be thy barn, and cursed thy stores.
18 El fruto de tu cuerpo, el fruto de tu tierra, la cría de tu ganado y las crías de tu rebaño serán maldecidos.
Cursed shall be the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy ground, the herds of thy oxen, and the flocks of thy sheep.
19 Serás maldecido cuando entres, y serás maldecido cuando salgas.
Cursed shalt thou be coming in, and cursed going out.
20 El Señor enviará sobre ti maldición, confusión y reprensión en todo lo que hagas, hasta que seas destruido y perezcas rápidamente, a causa de la maldad de tus obras, con las que me has abandonado.
The Lord shall send upon thee famine and hunger, and a rebuke upon all the works which thou shalt do: until he consume and destroy thee quickly, for thy most wicked inventions, by which thou hast forsaken me.
21 El Señor hará que la peste se adhiera a ti, hasta que te consuma de la tierra a la que entras para poseerla.
May the Lord set the pestilence upon thee, until he consume thee out of the land, which thou shalt go in to possess.
22 El Señor te atacará con tisis, con fiebre, con inflamación, con calor abrasador, con espada, con tizón y con moho. Te perseguirán hasta que perezcas.
May the Lord afflict thee with miserable want, with the fever and with cold, with burning and with heat, and with corrupted air and with blasting, and pursue thee till thou perish.
23 El cielo que está sobre tu cabeza será de bronce, y la tierra que está debajo de ti será de hierro.
Be the heaven, that is over thee, of brass: and the ground thou treadest on, of iron.
24 El Señor hará que la lluvia de tu tierra sea polvo y polvillo. Descenderá sobre ti desde el cielo, hasta que seas destruido.
The Lord give thee dust for rain upon thy land, and let ashes come down from heaven upon thee, till thou be consumed.
25 El Señor hará que seas golpeado ante tus enemigos. Saldrás por un camino contra ellos, y huirás por siete caminos ante ellos. Serán arrojados de un lado a otro entre todos los reinos de la tierra.
The Lord make thee to fall down before thy enemies, one way mayst thou go out against them, and flee seven ways, and be scattered throughout all the kingdoms of the earth.
26 Vuestros cadáveres serán el alimento de todas las aves del cielo y de los animales de la tierra, y no habrá nadie que los espante.
And be thy carcass meat for all the Fowls of the air, and the beasts of the earth, and be there none to drive them away.
27 El Señor los golpeará con los forúnculos de Egipto, con los tumores, con el escorbuto y con la picazón, de los cuales no podrán curarse.
The Lord strike thee with the ulcer of Egypt, and the part of thy body, by which the dung is cast out, with the scab and with the itch: so that thou canst not be healed.
28 El Señor te golpeará con la locura, con la ceguera y con el asombro del corazón.
The Lord strike thee with madness and blindness and fury of mind.
29 Andarás a tientas en el mediodía, como el ciego anda a tientas en la oscuridad, y no prosperarás en tus caminos. Sólo serás oprimido y robado siempre, y no habrá quien te salve.
And mayst thou grope at midday as the blind is wont to grope in the dark, and not make straight thy ways. And mayst thou at all times suffer wrong, and be oppressed with violence, and mayst thou have no one to deliver thee.
30 Te desposarás con una mujer, y otro hombre se acostará con ella. Construirás una casa, y no habitarás en ella. Plantarás una viña, y no aprovecharás su fruto.
Mayst thou take a wife, and another sleep with her. Mayst thou build a house, and not dwell therein. Mayest thou plant a vineyard and not gather the vintage thereof.
31 Tu buey será sacrificado ante tus ojos, y no comerás nada de él. Tu asno será arrebatado con violencia ante tu rostro, y no te será devuelto. Tus ovejas serán entregadas a tus enemigos, y no tendrás quien te salve.
May thy ox be slain before thee, and thou not eat thereof. May thy ass be taken away in thy sight, and not restored to thee. May thy sheep be given to thy enemies, and may there be none to help thee.
32 Tus hijos y tus hijas serán entregados a otro pueblo. Tus ojos mirarán y fallarán con anhelo por ellos todo el día. No habrá poder en tu mano.
May thy sons and thy daughters be given to another people, thy eyes looking on, and languishing at the sight of them all the day, and may there be no strength in thy hand.
33 Una nación que no conoces comerá el fruto de tu tierra y todo tu trabajo. Sólo serás oprimido y aplastado siempre,
May a people which thou knowest not, eat the fruits of thy land, and all thy labours: and mayst thou always suffer oppression, and be crushed at all times.
34 de modo que las vistas que veas con tus ojos te volverán loco.
And be astonished at the terror of those things which thy eyes shall see:
35 El Señor te herirá en las rodillas y en las piernas con una úlcera de la que no podrás curarte, desde la planta del pie hasta la coronilla.
May the Lord strike thee with a very sore ulcer in the knees and in the legs, and be thou incurable from the sole of the foot to the top of the head.
36 El Señor te llevará a ti, y a tu rey que pondrás sobre ti, a una nación que no has conocido, ni tú ni tus padres. Allí serviréis a otros dioses de madera y de piedra.
The Lord shall bring thee, and thy king, whom thou shalt have appointed over thee, into a nation which thou and thy fathers know not: and there thou shalt serve strange gods, wood and stone.
37 Se convertirán en un asombro, en un proverbio y en una palabra entre todos los pueblos a los que el Señor los lleve.
And thou shalt be lost, as a proverb and a byword to all people, among whom the Lord shall bring thee in.
38 Llevarás mucha semilla al campo, y recogerás poca, porque la langosta la consumirá.
Thou shalt cast much seed into the ground, and gather little: because the locusts shall consume all.
39 Plantarás viñas y las labrarás, pero no beberás del vino ni cosecharás, porque los gusanos se las comerán.
Thou shalt plant a vineyard, and dig it, and shalt not drink the wine, nor gather any thing thereof: because it shall be wasted with worms.
40 Tendrás olivos en todo tu territorio, pero no te ungirás con el aceite, porque tus aceitunas se caerán.
Thou shalt have olive trees in all thy borders, and shalt not be anointed with the oil: for the olives shall fall off and perish.
41 Engendrarás hijos e hijas, pero no serán tuyos, porque irán al cautiverio.
Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, and shalt not enjoy them: because they shall be led into captivity.
42 Las langostas consumirán todos tus árboles y el fruto de tu tierra.
The blast shall consume all the trees and the fruits of thy ground.
43 El extranjero que está en medio de vosotros se elevará sobre vosotros cada vez más alto, y vosotros bajaréis cada vez más.
The stranger that liveth with thee in the land, shall rise up over thee, and shall be higher: and thou shalt go down, and be lower.
44 Él te prestará, y tú no le prestarás a él. Él será la cabeza, y tú serás la cola.
He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him. He shall be as the head, and thou shalt be the tail.
45 Todas estas maldiciones vendrán sobre ti, te perseguirán y te alcanzarán, hasta que seas destruido, porque no escuchaste la voz de Yahvé vuestro Dios, para guardar sus mandamientos y sus estatutos que te ordenó.
And all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue and overtake thee, till thou perish: because thou heardst not the voice of the Lord thy God, and didst not keep his commandments and ceremonies which he commanded thee.
46 Serán para ti y para tu descendencia una señal y una maravilla para siempre.
And they shall be as signs and wonders on thee, and on thy seed for ever.
47 Porque no serviste a Yahvé vuestro Dios con alegría y con gozo de corazón, por la abundancia de todas las cosas;
Because thou didst not serve the Lord thy God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things:
48 por eso servirás a tus enemigos que Yahvé envía contra ti, con hambre, con sed, con desnudez y con falta de todas las cosas. Pondrá un yugo de hierro sobre tu cuello hasta que te haya destruido.
Thou shalt serve thy enemy, whom the Lord will send upon thee, in hunger, and thirst, and nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put an iron yoke upon thy neck, till he consume thee.
49 Yahvé traerá contra ti una nación desde muy lejos, desde el extremo de la tierra, como vuela el águila: una nación cuya lengua no entenderás,
The Lord will bring upon thee a nation from afar, and from the uttermost ends of the earth, like an eagle that flyeth swiftly, whose tongue thou canst not understand,
50 una nación de rostro feroz, que no respeta a los ancianos, ni muestra favor a los jóvenes.
A most insolent nation, that will shew no regard to the ancients, nor have pity on the infant,
51 Comerán el fruto de tu ganado y el fruto de tu tierra, hasta destruirte. Tampoco te dejarán el grano, el vino nuevo, el aceite, la cría de tu ganado, ni las crías de tu rebaño, hasta que te hagan perecer.
And will devour the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruits of thy land: until thou be destroyed, and will leave thee no wheat, nor wine, nor oil, nor herds of oxen, nor flocks of sheep: until he destroy thee.
52 Te asediarán en todas tus puertas hasta que se derrumben tus muros altos y fortificados en los que confiabas en toda tu tierra. Te asediarán en todas tus puertas por toda tu tierra que el Señor tu Dios te ha dado.
And consume thee in all thy cities, and thy strong and high walls be brought down, wherein thou trustedst in all thy land. Thou shalt be besieged within thy gates in all thy land which the Lord thy God will give thee:
53 Comerás el fruto de tu propio cuerpo, la carne de tus hijos y de tus hijas, que el Señor tu Dios te ha dado, en el asedio y en la angustia con que te angustiarán tus enemigos.
And thou shalt eat the fruit of thy womb, and the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the Lord thy God shall give thee, in the distress and extremity wherewith thy enemy shall oppress thee.
54 El hombre tierno entre vosotros, y muy delicado, su ojo será malo para con su hermano, para con la mujer que ama, y para con el resto de sus hijos que le quedan,
The man that is nice among you, and very delicate, shall envy his own brother, and his wife, that lieth in his bosom,
55 de modo que no dará a ninguno de ellos de la carne de sus hijos que comerá, porque no le queda nada, en el asedio y en la angustia con que os angustiarán vuestros enemigos en todas vuestras puertas.
So that he will not give them of the flesh of his children, which he shall eat: because he hath nothing else in the siege and the want, wherewith thy enemies shall distress thee within all thy gates.
56 La mujer tierna y delicada de entre vosotros, que no se atreve a poner la planta de su pie en el suelo por delicadeza y ternura, su ojo será malvado hacia el marido que ama, hacia su hijo, hacia su hija,
The tender and delicate woman, that could not go upon the ground, nor set down her foot for over much niceness and tenderness, will envy her husband who lieth in her bosom, the flesh of her son, and of her daughter,
57 hacia su joven que sale de entre sus pies, y hacia sus hijos que da a luz; porque los comerá a escondidas por falta de todo en el asedio y en la angustia con que os angustiará vuestro enemigo en vuestras puertas.
And the filth of the afterbirths, that come forth from between her thighs, and the children that are born the same hour. For they shall eat them secretly for the want of all things, in the siege and distress, wherewith thy enemy shall oppress thee within thy gates.
58 Si no observas para hacer todas las palabras de esta ley que están escritas en este libro, para que temas este nombre glorioso y temible, YAHWEH tu Dios,
If thou wilt not keep, and fulfill all the words of this law, that are written in this volume, and fear his glorious and terrible name: that is, The Lord thy God:
59 entonces Yahvé hará que tus plagas y las plagas de tu descendencia sean temibles, incluso grandes plagas, y de larga duración, y enfermedades graves, y de larga duración.
The Lord shall increase thy plagues, and the plagues of thy seed, plagues great and lasting, infirmities grievous and perpetual.
60 Hará que vuelvan a caer sobre ti todas las enfermedades de Egipto, de las que tenías miedo; y se aferrarán a ti.
And he shall bring back on thee all the afflictions of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of, and they shall stick fast to thee.
61 También todas las enfermedades y todas las plagas que no están escritas en el libro de esta ley, Yahvé las traerá sobre vosotros hasta que seáis destruidos.
Moreover the Lord will bring upon thee all the diseases, and plagues, that are not written in the volume of this law till he consume thee:
62 Quedaréis pocos en número, aunque erais como las estrellas del cielo por la multitud, porque no escuchasteis la voz de Yahvé vuestro Dios.
And you shall remain few in number, who before were as the stars of heaven for multitude, because thou heardst not the voice of the Lord thy God.
63 Sucederá que así como Yahvé se alegró de ti para hacerte bien y multiplicarte, así Yahvé se alegrará de ti para hacerte perecer y destruirte. Seréis arrancados de la tierra que vais a poseer.
And as the Lord rejoiced upon you before doing good to you, and multiplying you: so he shall rejoice destroying and bringing you to nought, so that you shall be taken away from the land which thou shalt go in to possess.
64 El Señor os dispersará entre todos los pueblos, desde un extremo de la tierra hasta el otro extremo de la tierra. Allí serviréis a otros dioses que no conocisteis, ni vosotros ni vuestros padres, a la madera y a la piedra.
The Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from the farthest parts of the earth to the ends thereof: and there thou shalt serve strange gods, which both thou art ignorant of and thy fathers, wood and stone.
65 Entre esas naciones no encontrarás descanso, ni habrá reposo para la planta de tu pie; sino que el Señor te dará allí un corazón tembloroso, ojos cansados y alma triste.
Neither shalt thou be quiet, even in those nations, nor shall there be any rest for the sole of thy foot. For the Lord will give thee a fearful heart, and languishing eyes, and a soul consumed with pensiveness:
66 Tu vida colgará en la duda ante ti. Tendrás miedo de noche y de día, y no tendrás seguridad de tu vida.
And thy life shall be as it were hanging before thee. Thou shalt fear night and day, neither shalt thou trust thy life.
67 Por la mañana dirás: “¡Ojalá fuera la tarde!” y al atardecer dirás: “¡Ojalá fuera la mañana!” por el miedo de tu corazón que temerás, y por las vistas que verán tus ojos.
In the morning thou shalt say: Who will grant me evening? and at evening: Who will grant me morning? for the fearfulness of thy heart, wherewith thou shalt be terrified, and for those things which thou shalt see with thy eyes.
68 El Señor os llevará de nuevo a Egipto con barcos, por el camino que os dije que no volveríais a ver. Allí os ofreceréis a vuestros enemigos como esclavos y esclavas, y nadie os comprará.
The Lord shall bring thee again with ships into Egypt, by the way whereof he said to thee that thou shouldst see it no more. There shalt thou be set to sale to thy enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.
