Deuteronomio 17
1 No sacrificarás a Yahvé vuestro Dios un buey o una oveja que tenga algún defecto o algo malo, porque eso es una abominación para Yahvé vuestro Dios.
You shall not sacrifice to the LORD your God an ox or a sheep in which is a defect or anything evil; for that is an abomination to the LORD your God.
2 Si se encuentra entre vosotros, dentro de cualquiera de vuestras puertas que Yahvé vuestro Dios os da, un hombre o una mujer que haga lo que es malo a los ojos de Yahvé vuestro Dios al transgredir su pacto,
If there is found amongst you, within any of your gates which the LORD your God gives you, a man or woman who does that which is evil in the LORD your God’s sight in transgressing his covenant,
3 y que haya ido a servir a otros dioses y los haya adorado, o al sol, o a la luna, o a cualquiera de las estrellas del cielo, lo que yo no he mandado,
and has gone and served other gods and worshipped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the stars of the sky, which I have not commanded,
4 y se os diga, y lo hayáis oído, entonces indagaréis con diligencia. He aquí, si es cierto, y la cosa es cierta, que tal abominación se hace en Israel,
and you are told, and you have heard of it, then you shall enquire diligently. Behold, if it is true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is done in Israel,
5 entonces sacaréis al hombre o a la mujer que haya hecho esta cosa mala a vuestras puertas, a ese mismo hombre o a esa misma mujer; y los apedrearéis hasta que mueran.
then you shall bring out that man or that woman who has done this evil thing to your gates, even that same man or woman; and you shall stone them to death with stones.
6 En boca de dos testigos, o de tres testigos, morirá el que haya de morir. Por la boca de un solo testigo no morirá.
At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, he who is to die shall be put to death. At the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.
7 Las manos de los testigos serán las primeras en darle muerte, y después las manos de todo el pueblo. Así eliminaréis el mal de entre vosotros.
The hands of the witnesses shall be first on him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So you shall remove the evil from amongst you.
8 Si surge un asunto demasiado difícil para ti en el juicio, entre sangre y sangre, entre alegato y alegato, y entre golpe y golpe, siendo asuntos de controversia dentro de tus puertas, entonces te levantarás y subirás al lugar que el Señor, tu Dios, elija.
If there arises a matter too hard for you in judgement, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within your gates, then you shall arise, and go up to the place which the LORD your God chooses.
9 Vendrás a los sacerdotes levitas y al juez que habrá en esos días. Preguntarás, y ellos te darán el veredicto.
You shall come to the priests who are Levites and to the judge who shall be in those days. You shall enquire, and they shall give you the verdict.
10 Harás conforme a las decisiones del veredicto que te darán desde el lugar que elija el Señor. Tendrás que cumplir con todo lo que te enseñen.
You shall do according to the decisions of the verdict which they shall give you from that place which the LORD chooses. You shall observe to do according to all that they shall teach you.
11 Harás según las decisiones de la ley que te enseñen y según la sentencia que te digan. No te apartarás de la sentencia que te anuncien, ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.
According to the decisions of the law which they shall teach you, and according to the judgement which they shall tell you, you shall do. You shall not turn away from the sentence which they announce to you, to the right hand, nor to the left.
12 El hombre que actúe con presunción al no escuchar al sacerdote que está de pie para ministrar allí ante Yahvé vuestro Dios, o al juez, ese hombre morirá. Tú quitarás el mal de Israel.
The man who does presumptuously in not listening to the priest who stands to minister there before the LORD your God, or to the judge, even that man shall die. You shall put away the evil from Israel.
13 Todo el pueblo escuchará y temerá, y no volverá a actuar con presunción.
All the people shall hear and fear, and do no more presumptuously.
14 Cuando lleguéis a la tierra que Yahvé vuestro Dios os da, y la poseáis y habitéis en ella, y digáis: “Pondré un rey sobre mí, como todas las naciones que me rodean”,
When you have come to the land which the LORD your God gives you, and possess it and dwell in it, and say, “I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me,”
15 ciertamente pondréis como rey sobre vosotros al que Yahvé vuestro Dios elija. Pondrás como rey sobre ti a uno de tus hermanos. No podrán poner sobre ustedes a un extranjero que no sea su hermano.
you shall surely set him whom the LORD your God chooses as king over yourselves. You shall set as king over you one from amongst your brothers. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother.
16 Sólo que no multiplicará los caballos para sí mismo, ni hará que el pueblo vuelva a Egipto, con el fin de multiplicar los caballos; porque Yahvé os ha dicho: “No volveréis por ese camino.”
Only he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he may multiply horses; because the LORD has said to you, “You shall not go back that way again.”
17 No multiplicará para sí las esposas, para que su corazón no se desvíe. No multiplicará en gran medida para sí la plata y el oro.
He shall not multiply wives to himself, that his heart not turn away. He shall not greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
18 Cuando se siente en el trono de su reino, escribirá él mismo una copia de esta ley en un libro, de los que están delante de los sacerdotes levitas.
It shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write himself a copy of this law in a book, out of that which is before the Levitical priests.
19 Estará con él, y leerá de él todos los días de su vida, para que aprenda a temer a Yahvé su Dios, a guardar todas las palabras de esta ley y estos estatutos, a ponerlos por obra;
It shall be with him, and he shall read from it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them;
20 para que su corazón no se enaltezca sobre sus hermanos, y para que no se aparte del mandamiento ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, a fin de que prolongue sus días en su reino, él y sus hijos, en medio de Israel.
that his heart not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he not turn away from the commandment to the right hand, or to the left, to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children, in the middle of Israel.
