Daniel 4

1 El rey Nabucodonosor, a todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas que habitan en toda la tierra: Que la paz se multiplique para ti.

Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied to you.

2 Me ha parecido bien mostrar las señales y los prodigios que el Dios Altísimo ha hecho conmigo.

I thought it good to show the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me.

3 ¡Qué grandes son sus signos! ¡Qué poderosas son sus maravillas! Su reino es un reino eterno. Su dominio es de generación en generación.

How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

4 Yo, Nabucodonosor, estaba tranquilo en mi casa y floreciente en mi palacio.

I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace:

5 Vi un sueño que me hizo temer, y los pensamientos de mi cama y las visiones de mi cabeza me turbaron.

I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

6 Por lo tanto, decreté traer a todos los sabios de Babilonia ante mí, para que me dieran a conocer la interpretación del sueño.

Therefore I made a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.

7 Entonces entraron los magos, los encantadores, los caldeos y los adivinos; y les conté el sueño, pero no me dieron a conocer su interpretación.

Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known to me the interpretation of it.

8 Pero al fin entró ante mí Daniel, cuyo nombre era Beltsasar, según el nombre de mi dios, y en quien está el espíritu de los dioses santos. Conté el sueño ante él, diciendo

But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name is Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,

9 “Beltsasar, maestro de los magos, porque sé que el espíritu de los dioses santos está en ti y que ningún secreto te perturba, cuéntame las visiones de mi sueño que he visto y su interpretación.

O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation of it.

10 Estas fueron las visiones de mi cabeza en mi lecho: Vi, y he aquí un árbol en medio de la tierra; y su altura era grande.

Thus were the visions of my head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great.

11 El árbol crecía y era fuerte. Su altura llegaba hasta el cielo y su vista hasta el final de toda la tierra.

The tree grew, and was strong, and its height reached to heaven, and the sight of it to the end of all the earth:

12 Sus hojas eran hermosas y tenía mucho fruto, y en él había alimento para todos. Los animales del campo tenían sombra bajo él, y las aves del cielo vivían en sus ramas, y toda carne se alimentaba de él.

Its leaves were fair, and its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all: the beasts of the field had shade under it, and the fowls of heaven dwelt among its boughs, and all flesh was fed from it.

13 “Vi en las visiones de mi cabeza en mi cama, y he aquí que un santo vigilante bajó del cielo.

I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;

14 Gritó en voz alta y dijo esto ‘¡Derriben el árbol y corten sus ramas! Sacudan sus hojas y esparzan sus frutos. Que los animales se alejen de él y los pájaros de sus ramas.

He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit: let the beasts escape from under it, and the fowls from its branches:

15 Sin embargo, deja el muñón de sus raíces en la tierra, con una banda de hierro y bronce, en la hierba tierna del campo; y que se moje con el rocío del cielo. Que su parte sea con los animales en la hierba de la tierra.

Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let its portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:

16 Que su corazón sea cambiado del de los hombres, y que se le dé un corazón de animal. Entonces que pasen sobre él siete tiempos.

Let his heart be changed from man’s, and let a beast’s heart be given to him; and let seven times pass over him.

17 “‘La sentencia es por decreto de los vigilantes y la demanda por palabra de los santos, con el fin de que los vivos sepan que el Altísimo gobierna en el reino de los hombres, y lo da a quien quiere, y pone sobre él a los más bajos de los hombres.’

This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

18 “Este sueño lo he visto yo, el rey Nabucodonosor, y tú, Beltsasar, declara la interpretación, porque todos los sabios de mi reino no son capaces de darme a conocer la interpretación, pero tú sí, porque el espíritu de los dioses santos está en ti.”

This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation of it, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.

19 Entonces Daniel, cuyo nombre era Beltsasar, se quedó mudo por un momento, y sus pensamientos lo perturbaron. El rey respondió: “Beltsasar, no dejes que el sueño o la interpretación te perturben”. Beltsasar respondió: “Señor mío, que el sueño sea para los que te odian, y su interpretación para tus adversarios.

Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was appalled for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spoke, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation of it, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation of it to thy enemies.

20 El árbol que viste, que crecía y era fuerte, cuya altura llegaba al cielo y su vista a toda la tierra;

The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached to the heaven, and the sight of it to all the earth;

21 cuyas hojas eran hermosas y su fruto abundante, y en él había alimento para todos; bajo el cual vivían los animales del campo, y en cuyas ramas tenían su morada las aves del cielo —

Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit of it abundant, and in it was food for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of heaven had their habitation:

22 eres tú, oh rey, el que ha crecido y se ha hecho fuerte; pues tu grandeza ha crecido, y llega hasta el cielo, y tu dominio hasta el fin de la tierra.

It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth to heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

23 “Mientras que el rey vio a un santo vigilante que bajaba del cielo y decía: ‘Corta el árbol y destrúyelo; sin embargo, deja el muñón de sus raíces en la tierra, con una banda de hierro y bronce, en la hierba tierna del campo, y que se moje con el rocío del cielo. Que su parte sea con los animales del campo, hasta que pasen siete tiempos sobre él’.

And in that the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let its portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times shall pass over him;

24 “Esta es la interpretación, oh rey, y es el decreto del Altísimo que ha caído sobre mi señor el rey:

This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king:

25 Serás expulsado de los hombres y tu morada será con los animales del campo. Se te hará comer hierba como a los bueyes, y te mojarás con el rocío del cielo, y pasarán siete veces sobre ti, hasta que sepas que el Altísimo gobierna en el reino de los hombres y lo da a quien él quiere.

That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou shalt know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomever he will.

26 Mientras que se ordenó dejar el tronco de las raíces del árbol, tu reino te será seguro después de que sepas que el Altísimo gobierna.

And though they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure to thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

27 Por lo tanto, oh rey, que mi consejo te sea aceptable, y rompe tus pecados con la justicia, y tus iniquidades mostrando misericordia a los pobres. Tal vez se prolongue tu tranquilidad”.

Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thy iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

28 Todo esto le ocurrió al rey Nabucodonosor.

All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.

29 Al cabo de doce meses se paseaba por el palacio real de Babilonia.

At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.

30 El rey habló y dijo: “¿No es ésta la gran Babilonia que he construido para morada real con la fuerza de mi poder y para gloria de mi majestad?”

The king spoke, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?

31 Mientras la palabra estaba en la boca del rey, una voz vino del cielo, diciendo: “Oh rey Nabucodonosor, a ti se te ha dicho: ‘El reino se ha alejado de ti.

While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom hath departed from thee.

32 Serás expulsado de los hombres y tu morada será con los animales del campo. Se te hará comer hierba como a los bueyes. Siete tiempos pasarán sobre ti, hasta que sepas que el Altísimo gobierna en el reino de los hombres, y lo da a quien él quiere’”.

And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou shalt know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomever he will.

33 Esto se cumplió en la misma hora sobre Nabucodonosor. Fue expulsado de los hombres y comió hierba como los bueyes; y su cuerpo se mojó con el rocío del cielo hasta que su pelo creció como las plumas de las águilas, y sus uñas como las garras de las aves.

The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.

34 Al final de los días yo, Nabucodonosor, levanté mis ojos al cielo, y mi entendimiento volvió a mí; y bendije al Altísimo, y alabé y honré al que vive para siempre, porque su dominio es un dominio eterno, y su reino de generación en generación.

And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

35 Todos los habitantes de la tierra son reputados como nada; y hace según su voluntad en el ejército del cielo, y entre los habitantes de la tierra; y nadie puede detener su mano, o preguntarle: “¿Qué estás haciendo?”

And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say to him, What doest thou?

36 Al mismo tiempo, mi entendimiento volvió a mí; y por la gloria de mi reino, mi majestad y brillo volvieron a mí. Mis consejeros y mis señores me buscaron; y fui establecido en mi reino, y se me añadió una grandeza excelente.

At the same time my reason returned to me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my honour and brightness returned to me; and my counsellors and my lords sought to me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me.

37 Ahora yo, Nabucodonosor, alabo, ensalzo y honro al Rey de los cielos; porque todas sus obras son verdades, y sus caminos, justicia; y puede abatir a los que andan con soberbia.

Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
