Hechos 8
1 Saulo consintió en su muerte. Se levantó una gran persecución contra la asamblea que estaba en Jerusalén en aquel día. Todos estaban dispersos por las regiones de Judea y Samaria, excepto los apóstoles.
At that time a major persecution arose against the church that was in Jerusalem, so all, except the Apostles, were scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria.
2 Los hombres devotos enterraron a Esteban y se lamentaron mucho por él.
(Devout men had buried Stephen and made a great lamentation over him.)
3 Pero Saulo asoló la asamblea, entró en todas las casas y arrastró a la cárcel a hombres y mujeres.
As for Saul, he was trying to destroy the Church; invading house after house and dragging away both men and women, he was putting them in prison.
4 Por eso, los que estaban dispersos iban por ahí predicando la palabra.
So on their part those who were scattered abroad went about preaching the Word.
5 Felipe bajó a la ciudad de Samaria y les anunció al Cristo.
Now Philip, having gone down to a city of Samaria, was proclaiming the Christ to them;
6 Las multitudes escuchaban unánimemente lo que decía Felipe, al oír y ver las señales que hacía.
and the crowds gave heed with one accord to what Philip was saying, as they heard the words and saw the signs that he kept performing.
7 Porque salieron espíritus inmundos de muchos de los que los tenían. Salían gritando a gran voz. Muchos paralíticos y cojos quedaron curados.
Because unclean spirits came out screaming from many who had them, and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.
8 Hubo gran alegría en aquella ciudad.
Yes, there was great joy in that city!
9 Pero había un hombre, de nombre Simón, que practicaba la hechicería en la ciudad y asombraba a la gente de Samaria, haciéndose pasar por alguien grande,
Now a certain man named Simon was in the city first, practicing sorcery and astounding the people of Samaria, affirming himself to be someone great,
10 a quien todos escuchaban, desde el más pequeño hasta el más grande, diciendo: “Este hombre es ese gran poder de Dios.”
to whom they used to pay attention, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the great power of God.”
11 Le escuchaban porque durante mucho tiempo les había asombrado con sus hechicerías.
They listened to him because he had amazed them with his sorceries for a long time.
12 Pero cuando creyeron que Felipe predicaba la buena noticia del Reino de Dios y el nombre de Jesucristo, se bautizaron, tanto hombres como mujeres.
But, when they believed Philip, as he proclaimed the good news concerning the Kingdom of God and the name, Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
13 También Simón creyó. Al ser bautizado, siguió con Felipe. Al ver que se producían señales y grandes milagros, quedó maravillado.
Even Simon himself believed, and having been baptized he stayed right with Philip; observing miracles and signs occurring, he was amazed.
14 Cuando los apóstoles que estaban en Jerusalén se enteraron de que Samaria había recibido la palabra de Dios, enviaron a Pedro y a Juan a ellos,
Now when the Apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,
15 quienes, al bajar, oraron por ellos para que recibieran el Espíritu Santo;
who upon coming down prayed about them, so that they might receive Holy Spirit,
16 porque todavía no había caído sobre ninguno de ellos. Sólo habían sido bautizados en el nombre de Cristo Jesús.
because He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had only been baptized into the name of Jesus, the Christ.
17 Entonces les impusieron las manos, y recibieron el Espíritu Santo.
Then they laid their hands upon them and they received Holy Spirit.
18 Al ver Simón que el Espíritu Santo se daba por la imposición de las manos de los apóstoles, les ofreció dinero,
Well, upon observing that the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the Apostles' hands, Simon offered them money
19 diciendo: “Dadme también a mí este poder, para que todo aquel a quien imponga las manos reciba el Espíritu Santo.”
saying, “Give this power to me also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive Holy Spirit.”
20 Pero Pedro le dijo: “¡Que tu plata perezca contigo, porque pensaste que podías obtener el don de Dios con dinero!
But Peter said to him: “May your silver go with you into perdition, for thinking that the gift of God could be acquired with money!
21 No tienes parte ni suerte en este asunto, porque tu corazón no es recto ante Dios.
You have neither part nor portion in this matter, because your heart is not right before God.
22 Arrepiéntete, pues, de esta tu maldad, y pide a Dios si acaso te perdona el pensamiento de tu corazón.
Turn away therefore from this your wickedness and make petition to God, in case the intent of your heart may be forgiven you;
23 Porque veo que estás en el veneno de la amargura y en la esclavitud de la iniquidad.”
for I see you being into a gall of bitterness and a fetter of unrighteousness.”
24 Simón respondió: “Ruega por mí al Señor, para que no me suceda nada de lo que has dicho”.
So in answer Simon said, “You make petition to the Lord on my behalf, so that nothing of what you have spoken may come upon me!”
25 Ellos, pues, después de haber dado testimonio y pronunciado la palabra del Señor, volvieron a Jerusalén y predicaron la Buena Nueva en muchas aldeas de los samaritanos.
So when they had both thoroughly testified and spoken the Word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem; they also evangelized many Samaritan villages.
26 Entonces un ángel del Señor habló a Felipe, diciendo: “Levántate y ve hacia el sur por el camino que baja de Jerusalén a Gaza. Este es un desierto”.
Then an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying, “Get up and go south on the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza; it is desolate.”
27 Se levantó y fue; y he aquí que había un hombre de Etiopía, un eunuco de gran autoridad bajo Candace, reina de los etíopes, que estaba sobre todo su tesoro, que había venido a Jerusalén para adorar.
So he got up and went; and there, a man, an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court-official of Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasury, who had come worshiping to Jerusalem
28 Volvía y estaba sentado en su carro, y leía el profeta Isaías.
—he was returning, sitting in his chariot and reading aloud the prophet Isaiah.
29 El Espíritu dijo a Felipe: “Acércate y únete a este carro”.
And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go forward and join this chariot.”
30 Felipe corrió hacia él y le oyó leer al profeta Isaías, y le dijo: “¿Entiendes lo que estás leyendo?”
So running up Philip heard him reading the prophet Isaiah and said, “Do you really understand what you are reading?”
31 Dijo: “¿Cómo voy a hacerlo si no me lo explican?”. Le rogó a Felipe que subiera y se sentara con él.
So he said, “Well how can I, unless someone guides me?” And he urged Philip to come up and sit with him.
32 El pasaje de la Escritura que estaba leyendo era éste, “Fue llevado como una oveja al matadero. Como un cordero mudo ante su esquilador, Así que no abrió su boca.
Now the portion of the Scripture that he was reading was this: “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so He does not open His mouth.
33 En su humillación, su juicio fue quitado. ¿Quién declarará su generación? Porque su vida es quitada de la tierra”.
In His humiliation His justice was removed, and who will recount His generation? Because His life is removed from the earth.”
34 El eunuco respondió a Felipe: “¿De quién habla el profeta? ¿De sí mismo, o de otro?”
So continuing the eunuch said to Philip, “I ask you, about whom does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?”
35 Felipe abrió la boca y, partiendo de esta Escritura, le predicó acerca de Jesús.
So opening his mouth and beginning from this Scripture, Philip preached Jesus to him.
36 Mientras iban por el camino, llegaron a un poco de agua; y el eunuco dijo: “Mira, aquí hay agua. ¿Qué me impide ser bautizado?”
Now as they were going down the road they came upon some water, and the eunuch said: “Look, water! What is keeping me from being baptized?”
38 Mandó que se detuviera el carro, y ambos bajaron al agua, tanto Felipe como el eunuco, y lo bautizó.
So he ordered the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.
39 Cuando salieron del agua, el Espíritu del Señor arrebató a Felipe, y el eunuco no lo vio más, pues siguió su camino alegremente.
Now when they came up out of the water, Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him any more, because he went on his way rejoicing.
40 Pero Felipe se encontró en Azoto. De paso, predicó la Buena Nueva a todas las ciudades hasta llegar a Cesarea.
Philip was found at Azotus, and as he passed through he evangelized all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
