Hechos 6
1 En aquellos días, cuando el número de los discípulos se multiplicaba, surgió una queja de los helenistas contra los hebreos, porque sus viudas eran descuidadas en el servicio diario.
Now in those days, as the disciples were multiplying, a complaint arose from the Hellenists against the Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution.
2 Los doce convocaron a la multitud de los discípulos y dijeron: “No conviene que dejemos la palabra de Dios y sirvamos a las mesas.
So summoning the multitude of the disciples the twelve said: “It is not advantageous that we should forsake the Word of God to serve at tables.
3 Por eso, hermanos, elegid de entre vosotros a siete hombres de buena reputación, llenos de Espíritu Santo y de sabiduría, a los que podamos nombrar para que se encarguen de este asunto.
Therefore, brothers, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we will appoint over this need.
4 Pero nosotros continuaremos firmemente en la oración y en el ministerio de la palabra.”
But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the Word.”
5 Estas palabras agradaron a toda la multitud. Escogieron a Esteban, hombre lleno de fe y del Espíritu Santo, a Felipe, a Prócoro, a Nicanor, a Timón, a Parmenas y a Nicolás, prosélito de Antioquía,
The statement pleased the whole multitude; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicholas, a proselyte from Antioch,
6 a quienes pusieron delante de los apóstoles. Después de orar, les impusieron las manos.
whom they set before the Apostles; and after praying they laid hands on them.
7 La palabra de Dios crecía y el número de los discípulos se multiplicaba enormemente en Jerusalén. Un gran número de sacerdotes obedecía a la fe.
Well the Word of God kept spreading, and the number of disciples in Jerusalem kept multiplying at a great rate, and a large company of the priests were obeying the faith.
8 Esteban, lleno de fe y poder, realizaba grandes prodigios y señales entre el pueblo.
While Stephen, full of faith and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people.
9 Pero algunos de los que eran de la sinagoga llamada “Los Libertinos”, y de los Cireneos, de los Alejandrinos, y de los de Cilicia y Asia se levantaron, disputando con Esteban.
Then there arose some from what is called the Synagogue of the Freedmen (Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and those from Cilicia and Asia), disputing with Stephen.
10 No pudieron resistir la sabiduría y el Espíritu con que hablaba.
And they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.
11 Entonces indujeron secretamente a los hombres a decir: “Le hemos oído hablar palabras blasfemas contra Moisés y Dios.”
Then they instigated men to say, “We have heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.”
12 Entonces incitaron al pueblo, a los ancianos y a los escribas, y vinieron contra él y lo apresaron, y lo llevaron al concilio,
And they stirred up the people, and the elders and the scribes; and coming upon him they seized him, and brought him in to the Sanhedrin;
13 y presentaron testigos falsos que decían: “Este hombre no deja de decir palabras blasfemas contra este lugar santo y contra la ley.
and they put forward false witnesses who said: “This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against the holy place and the law;
14 Porque le hemos oído decir que este Jesús de Nazaret destruirá este lugar y cambiará las costumbres que nos entregó Moisés.”
for we have heard him saying that this Jesus the Natsorean will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses delivered to us.”
15 Todos los que estaban sentados en el consejo, fijando sus ojos en él, vieron su rostro como si fuera el de un ángel.
All who sat in the council, looking intently at him, saw his face like the face of an angel.
