Hechos 28
1 Cuando hubimos escapado, se enteraron de que la isla se llamaba Malta.
And having escaped, we learned that the island was called Melita.
2 Los nativos nos mostraron una amabilidad poco común, pues encendieron un fuego y nos recibieron a todos, a causa de la lluvia presente y del frío.
And the barbarians showed us no little kindness; for they kindled a fire, and received us all, because of the rain which had come on, and because of the cold.
3 Pero cuando Pablo reunió un manojo de palos y los puso sobre el fuego, una víbora salió a causa del calor y se le prendió en la mano.
And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid it on the fire, there came forth a viper by reason of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
4 Cuando los nativos vieron la criatura colgando de su mano, se dijeron unos a otros: “Sin duda este hombre es un asesino, al que, aunque ha escapado del mar, la Justicia no ha dejado vivir.”
And when the barbarians saw the animal hanging from his hand, they said to one another, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom though he hath escaped the sea, Justice hath not permitted to live.
5 Sin embargo, él se sacudió la criatura en el fuego, y no sufrió ningún daño.
He, however, shaking off the animal into the fire suffered no harm.
6 Pero ellos esperaban que se hubiera hinchado o que hubiera caído muerto de repente, pero cuando observaron durante mucho tiempo y vieron que no le ocurría nada malo, cambiaron de opinión y dijeron que era un dios.
But they were looking for his becoming swollen, or suddenly falling down dead. But after looking a great while, and seeing no harm come to him they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.
7 En la vecindad de aquel lugar había tierras que pertenecían al jefe de la isla, llamado Publio, quien nos recibió y nos agasajó cortésmente durante tres días.
And in the neighborhood of that place were lands be longing to the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who welcomed us, and entertained us kindly three days.
8 El padre de Publio estaba enfermo de fiebre y disentería. Pablo entró en él, oró y, imponiéndole las manos, le sanó.
And it happened that the father of Publius was lying sick with a fever and dysentery; to whom Paul went in, and, when he had prayed, laid his hands on him, and healed him.
9 Hecho esto, vinieron también los demás enfermos de la isla y se curaron.
And when this was done, the others also who had diseases in the island came, and were healed;
10 También nos honraron con muchos honores; y cuando zarpamos, pusieron a bordo las cosas que necesitábamos.
who also honored us with many honors, and when we put to sea, loaded us with such things as were necessary.
11 Al cabo de tres meses, zarpamos en una nave de Alejandría que había invernado en la isla, cuyo mascarón de proa era “Los hermanos gemelos”.
And after three months we put to sea in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the island, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.
12 Al llegar a Siracusa, permanecimos allí tres días.
And landing at Syracuse, we stayed there three days;
13 Desde allí dimos la vuelta y llegamos a Rhegium. Al cabo de un día, se levantó un viento del sur, y al segundo día llegamos a Puteoli,
and from thence we made a circuit, and came to Rhegium; and after one day a south wind arose, and we came on the second day to Puteoli,
14 donde encontramos hermanos, y nos rogaron que nos quedáramos con ellos siete días. Así llegamos a Roma.
where we found brethren, and were entreated to remain with them seven days; and so we went toward Rome.
15 Desde allí, los hermanos, al saber de nosotros, salieron a nuestro encuentro hasta el Mercado de Apio y las Tres Tabernas. Al verlos, Pablo dio gracias a Dios y se animó.
And from thence, the brethren having heard of us came to meet us as far as Appii Forum, and the Three Taverns; at the sight of whom Paul thanked God and took courage.
16 Cuando entramos en Roma, el centurión entregó los prisioneros al capitán de la guardia, pero a Pablo se le permitió quedarse solo con el soldado que lo custodiaba.
And when we had come to Rome, Paul was permitted to dwell by himself, with the soldier that guarded him.
17 Al cabo de tres días, Pablo convocó a los jefes de los judíos. Cuando se reunieron, les dijo: “Yo, hermanos, aunque no había hecho nada contra el pueblo ni contra las costumbres de nuestros padres, fui entregado prisionero desde Jerusalén en manos de los romanos,
And it came to pass that after three days he called together the chief men of the Jews, and when they had met he said to them, Brethren, I, though I had done nothing against the people, or the customs of our fathers, was delivered up a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans;
18 los cuales, después de examinarme, quisieron ponerme en libertad, porque no había en mí ninguna causa de muerte.
who, when they had examined me, wished to release me, because I had done nothing deserving death.
19 Pero cuando los judíos se pronunciaron en contra, me vi obligado a apelar al César, sin tener nada por lo que acusar a mi nación.
But when the Jews spoke against it, I was constrained to appeal to Caesar; not that I had any charge to bring against my nation.
20 Por eso pedí verte y hablar contigo. Porque a causa de la esperanza de Israel estoy atado con esta cadena”.
For this reason therefore I have called for you, to see you and speak to you; for it is on account of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain.
21 Le dijeron: “No hemos recibido cartas de Judea acerca de ti, ni ninguno de los hermanos ha venido a informar o a hablar mal de ti.
And they said to him, We neither received letters from Judea concerning thee, nor did any one of the brethren that came report or speak any evil of thee.
22 Pero deseamos oír de ti lo que piensas. Porque, en cuanto a esta secta, nos consta que en todas partes se habla mal de ella.”
But we think it proper to hear from thee what thou thinkest; for with regard to this sect, we know that it is everywhere spoken against.
23 Cuando le señalaron un día, acudió mucha gente a su alojamiento. Él les explicaba, testificando acerca del Reino de Dios, y persuadiéndolos acerca de Jesús, tanto de la ley de Moisés como de los profetas, desde la mañana hasta la noche.
And when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging; to whom he expounded, and earnestly testified, the kingdom of God, endeavoring to persuade them concerning Jesus both from the Law of Moses, and from the Prophets, from morning till evening.
24 Algunos creyeron lo que se decía, y otros no creyeron.
And some believed the things spoken, and some believed not.
25 Como no se ponían de acuerdo entre sí, se marchaban después de que Pablo había pronunciado un solo mensaje: “El Espíritu Santo habló correctamente por medio del profeta Isaías a nuestros padres,
So, disagreeing with one another, they took their departure, after Paul had spoken one word: Well did the Holy Spirit speak through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers,
26 diciendo, ‘Ve a este pueblo y dile, en la audición, oirás, pero no lo entenderá de ninguna manera. Al ver, verás, pero no percibirá de ninguna manera.
saying, “Go to this people, and say, 'Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see and not perceive.
27 Porque el corazón de este pueblo se ha vuelto insensible. Sus oídos oyen con dificultad. Sus ojos se han cerrado. No sea que vean con sus ojos, oigan con sus oídos, entiendan con el corazón, y volvería a girar, entonces yo los sanaría’.
For the heart of this people hath become gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and turn from their ways, and I should heal them.'”
28 “Sabed, pues, que la salvación de Dios es enviada a las naciones, y ellas escucharán”.
Be it therefore known to you, that to the gentiles this salvation of God hath been sent; they, moreover, will hear.
29 Cuando dijo estas palabras, los judíos se marcharon, teniendo una gran disputa entre ellos.
30 Pablo permaneció dos años enteros en su propia casa alquilada y recibía a todos los que venían a él,
And he abode two whole years in his own hired house and gladly received all that came in to him,
31 predicando el Reino de Dios y enseñando las cosas relativas al Señor Jesucristo con toda valentía, sin obstáculos.
proclaiming the kingdom of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, without hindrance from any one.
