Hechos 12
1 Por aquel tiempo, el rey Herodes extendió sus manos para oprimir a algunos de la asamblea.
About that time, King Herod reached out to harm some who belonged to the church.
2 Mató a Santiago, el hermano de Juan, con la espada.
He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword.
3 Al ver que esto agradaba a los judíos, procedió a apresar también a Pedro. Esto ocurrió durante los días de los panes sin levadura.
And seeing that this pleased the Jews, Herod proceeded to seize Peter during the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
4 Cuando lo detuvo, lo metió en la cárcel y lo entregó a cuatro escuadrones de cuatro soldados cada uno para que lo custodiaran, con la intención de sacarlo al pueblo después de la Pascua.
He arrested him and put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out to the people after the Passover.
5 Así pues, Pedro fue retenido en la cárcel, pero la asamblea oraba constantemente por él a Dios.
So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was fervently praying to God for him.
6 La misma noche en que Herodes iba a sacarlo, Pedro dormía entre dos soldados, atado con dos cadenas. Los guardias delante de la puerta custodiaban la prisión.
On the night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, with sentries standing guard at the entrance to the prison.
7 Y he aquí que un ángel del Señor se puso junto a él, y una luz brilló en la celda. Golpeó a Pedro en el costado y lo despertó, diciendo: “¡Levántate rápido!”. Las cadenas se le cayeron de las manos.
Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He tapped Peter on the side and woke him up, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his wrists.
8 El ángel le dijo: “Vístete y ponte las sandalias”. Así lo hizo. Le dijo: “Ponte la capa y sígueme”.
“Get dressed and put on your sandals,” said the angel. Peter did so, and the angel told him, “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me.”
9 Y salió y le siguió. No sabía que lo que hacía el ángel era real, sino que creía ver una visión.
So Peter followed him out, but he was unaware that what the angel was doing was real. He thought he was only seeing a vision.
10 Cuando pasaron la primera y la segunda guardia, llegaron a la puerta de hierro que da acceso a la ciudad, que se les abrió sola. Salieron y bajaron por una calle, e inmediatamente el ángel se alejó de él.
They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city, which opened for them by itself. When they had gone outside and walked the length of one block, the angel suddenly left him.
11 Cuando Pedro volvió en sí, dijo: “Ahora sé verdaderamente que el Señor ha enviado a su ángel y me ha librado de la mano de Herodes y de todo lo que el pueblo judío esperaba.”
Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know for sure that the Lord has sent His angel and rescued me from Herod’s grasp and from everything the Jewish people were anticipating.”
12 Pensando en esto, llegó a la casa de María, la madre de Juan, que se llamaba Marcos, donde había muchos reunidos y orando.
And when he had realized this, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered together and were praying.
13 Cuando Pedro llamó a la puerta del portal, una sirvienta llamada Roda vino a responder.
He knocked at the outer gate, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer it.
14 Al reconocer la voz de Pedro, no abrió la puerta de alegría, sino que entró corriendo e informó de que Pedro estaba delante de la puerta.
When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed that she forgot to open the gate, but ran inside and announced, “Peter is standing at the gate!”
15 Le dijeron: “¡Estás loca!” Pero ella insistió en que era así. Le dijeron: “Es su ángel”.
“You are out of your mind,” they told her. But when she kept insisting it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.”
16 Pero Pedro siguió llamando. Cuando abrieron, lo vieron y se asombraron.
But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astounded.
17 Pero él, haciéndoles una señal con la mano para que se callaran, les contó cómo el Señor le había sacado de la cárcel. Dijo: “Contad estas cosas a Santiago y a los hermanos”. Luego partió y se fue a otro lugar.
Peter motioned with his hand for silence, and he described how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. “Send word to James and to the brothers,” he said, and he left for another place.
18 Tan pronto como se hizo de día, hubo no poco revuelo entre los soldados acerca de lo que había sucedido con Pedro.
At daybreak there was no small commotion among the soldiers as to what had become of Peter.
19 Cuando Herodes lo buscó y no lo encontró, examinó a los guardias y ordenó que los mataran. Bajó de Judea a Cesarea y se quedó allí.
After Herod had searched for him unsuccessfully, he examined the guards and ordered that they be executed. Then he went down from Judea to Caesarea and spent some time there.
20 Herodes estaba muy enojado con los habitantes de Tiro y Sidón. Ellos acudieron de común acuerdo a él y, habiendo hecho amigo a Blasto, el ayudante personal del rey, le pidieron la paz, porque su país dependía del país del rey para alimentarse.
Now Herod was in a furious dispute with the people of Tyre and Sidon, and they convened before him. Having secured the support of Blastus, the king’s chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their region depended on the king’s country for food.
21 El día señalado, Herodes se vistió con ropas reales, se sentó en el trono y les dirigió un discurso.
On the appointed day, Herod donned his royal robes, sat on his throne, and addressed the people.
22 El pueblo gritó: “¡La voz de un dios y no de un hombre!”
And they began to shout, “This is the voice of a god, not a man!”
23 Inmediatamente un ángel del Señor lo golpeó, porque no le dio la gloria a Dios. Entonces fue devorado por los gusanos y murió.
Immediately, because Herod did not give glory to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.
24 Pero la palabra de Dios crecía y se multiplicaba.
But the word of God continued to spread and multiply.
25 Bernabé y Saulo volvieron a Jerusalén cuando cumplieron su servicio, llevando también consigo a Juan, que se llamaba Marcos.
When Barnabas and Saul had fulfilled their mission to Jerusalem, they returned, bringing with them John, also called Mark.
