1 El anciano a Gayo el amado, a quien amo en la verdad.

The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

2 Amados, ruego que prosperéis en todo y que tengáis salud, así como prospera vuestra alma.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

3 Porque me alegré mucho cuando vinieron los hermanos y dieron testimonio de tu verdad, así como tú andas en la verdad.

For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

4 No tengo mayor alegría que ésta: oír que mis hijos andan en la verdad.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

5 Amado, haces una obra fiel en todo lo que realizas en favor de los que son hermanos y extraños.

Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

6 Ellos han dado testimonio de tu amor ante la asamblea. Haréis bien en enviarlos a su viaje de manera digna de Dios,

Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

7 porque por causa del Nombre salieron, sin tomar nada de los gentiles.

Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

8 Nosotros, pues, debemos recibir a los tales, para que seamos colaboradores de la verdad.

We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

9 Yo escribí a la asamblea, pero Diótrefes, que ama ser el primero entre ellos, no acepta lo que decimos.

I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

10 Por eso, si vengo, llamaré la atención sobre sus actos, que realiza acusándonos injustamente con palabras inicuas. No contento con esto, él mismo no recibe a los hermanos, y a los que lo harían, se lo prohíbe y los echa de la asamblea.

Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth [them] out of the church.

11 Amado, no imites lo que es malo, sino lo que es bueno. El que hace el bien es de Dios. El que hace el mal no ha visto a Dios.

Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

12 Demetrio tiene el testimonio de todos y de la verdad misma; sí, nosotros también damos testimonio, y vosotros sabéis que nuestro testimonio es verdadero.

Demetrius hath good report of all [men], and of the truth itself: yea, and we [also] bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

13 Tenía muchas cosas que escribirte, pero no quiero hacerlo con tinta y pluma;

I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:

14 pero espero verte pronto. Entonces hablaremos cara a cara. La paz sea contigo. Los amigos te saludan. Saluda a los amigos por su nombre.

But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace [be] to thee. [Our] friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.
