2 Samuel 1

1 Después de la muerte de Saúl, cuando David regresó de la matanza de los amalecitas, y David había permanecido dos días en Siclag,

Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag;

2 al tercer día, he aquí que un hombre salió del campamento de Saúl, con sus ropas rasgadas y tierra en la cabeza. Cuando llegó a David, se postró en tierra y le mostró respeto.

It came even to pass on the third day, that behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and [so] it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance.

3 David le dijo: “¿De dónde vienes?” Le dijo: “He escapado del campamento de Israel”.

And David said to him, From whence comest thou? And he said to him, Out of the camp of Israel have I escaped.

4 David le dijo: “¿Cómo te fue? Por favor, cuéntame”. Él respondió: “El pueblo ha huido de la batalla, y también muchos del pueblo han caído y están muertos. También han muerto Saúl y su hijo Jonatán”.

And David said to him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people have fled from the battle, and many of the people also have fallen, and are dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.

5 David dijo al joven que se lo contó: “¿Cómo sabes que Saúl y su hijo Jonatán han muerto?”.

And David said to the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?

6 El joven que se lo contó dijo: “Cuando pasé por casualidad por el monte Gilboa, he aquí que Saúl estaba apoyado en su lanza, y he aquí que los carros y la caballería le seguían de cerca.

And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.

7 Cuando miró detrás de él, me vio y me llamó. Yo respondí: “Aquí estoy”.

And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called to me. And I answered, Here [am] I.

8 Me dijo: “¿Quién eres tú? Yo le respondí: “Soy amalecita”.

And he said to me, Who [art] thou? And I answered him, I [am] an Amalekite.

9 Me dijo: ‘Por favor, ponte a mi lado y mátame, pues la angustia se ha apoderado de mí porque mi vida perdura’.

He said to me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: for anguish is come upon me, because my life [is] yet whole in me.

10 Así que me puse a su lado y lo maté, porque estaba seguro de que no podría vivir después de haber caído. Tomé la corona que llevaba en la cabeza y el brazalete que tenía en el brazo, y se los he traído a mi señor”.

So I stood upon him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he had fallen: and I took the crown that [was] upon his head, and the bracelet that [was] on his arm, and have brought them hither to my lord.

11 Entonces David se agarró a sus ropas y las rasgó; y todos los hombres que estaban con él hicieron lo mismo.

Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that [were] with him:

12 Hicieron duelo, lloraron y ayunaron hasta la noche por Saúl y por su hijo Jonatán, y por el pueblo de Yahvé, y por la casa de Israel, porque habían caído a espada.

And they mourned and wept, and fasted until evening, for Saul and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they had fallen by the sword.

13 David dijo al joven que se lo contó: “¿De dónde eres?”. Respondió: “Soy hijo de un extranjero, un amalecita”.

And David said to the young man that told him, Whence [art] thou? And he answered, I [am] the son of a stranger, an Amalekite.

14 David le dijo: “¿Por qué no tuviste miedo de extender tu mano para destruir al ungido de Yahvé?”

And David said to him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thy hand to destroy the LORD'S anointed?

15 David llamó a uno de los jóvenes y le dijo: “¡Acércate y derríbalo!” Lo golpeó de tal manera que murió.

And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, [and] fall upon him. And he smote him that he died.

16 David le dijo: “Que tu sangre caiga sobre tu cabeza, porque tu boca ha dado testimonio contra ti, diciendo: “He matado al ungido de Yahvé”.”

And David said to him, Thy blood [be] upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD'S anointed.

17 David se lamentó con este lamento por Saúl y por Jonatán, su hijo

And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul, and over Jonathan his son:

18 (y les ordenó que enseñaran a los hijos de Judá el canto del arco; he aquí que está escrito en el libro de Jasar):

(Also he bade them teach the children of Judah [the use of] the bow: behold, [it is] written in the book of Jasher.)

19 “¡Tu gloria, Israel, fue asesinada en tus lugares altos! ¡Cómo han caído los poderosos!

The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen!

20 No lo cuentes en Gat. No lo publiques en las calles de Ashkelon, para que las hijas de los filisteos no se alegren, para que no triunfen las hijas de los incircuncisos.

Tell [it] not in Gath, publish [it] not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.

21 Montes de Gilboa, que no haya rocío ni lluvia sobre ti, ni campos de ofrendas; porque allí el escudo de los poderosos fue profanado y desechado, el escudo de Saúl no fue ungido con aceite.

Ye mountains of Gilboa, [let there be] no dew, neither rain upon you, nor fields of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, [as though he had] not [been] anointed with oil.

22 De la sangre de los muertos, de la grasa de los poderosos, El arco de Jonathan no se volvió. La espada de Saúl no volvió vacía.

From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan turned not back, and the sword of Saul returned not empty.

23 Saúl y Jonatán fueron encantadores y agradables en sus vidas. En su muerte, no fueron divididos. Eran más veloces que las águilas. Eran más fuertes que los leones.

Saul and Jonathan [were] lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.

24 Hijas de Israel, llorad a Saúl, que te vistió delicadamente de escarlata, que ponen adornos de oro en su ropa.

Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you in scarlet, with [other] delights, who put ornaments of gold upon your apparel.

25 ¡Cómo han caído los poderosos en medio de la batalla! Jonathan fue asesinado en sus lugares altos.

How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! O Jonathan [thou wast] slain in thy high places.

26 Estoy angustiado por ti, hermano Jonatán. Has sido muy agradable conmigo. Su amor hacia mí fue maravilloso, superando el amor de las mujeres.

I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been to me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.

27 Cómo han caído los poderosos, y las armas de guerra han perecido”.

How have the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!
