2 Samuel 24

1 Nuevamente ardió la ira de Yahvé contra Israel, y movió a David contra ellos, diciendo: “Ve, cuenta a Israel y a Judá”.

And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

2 El rey dijo a Joab, el capitán del ejército, que estaba con él: “Ve ahora de un lado a otro por todas las tribus de Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, y cuenta el pueblo, para que yo sepa la suma del pueblo.”

For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number all of you the people, that I may know the number of the people.

3 Joab dijo al rey: “Ahora, que el Señor, tu Dios, añada al pueblo, por más que sea, cien veces, y que los ojos de mi señor el rey lo vean. Pero, ¿por qué se complace mi señor el rey en esto?”.

And Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD your God add unto the people, no matter how many they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?

4 No obstante, la palabra del rey prevaleció contra Joab y contra los capitanes del ejército. Joab y los capitanes del ejército salieron de la presencia del rey para contar al pueblo de Israel.

Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.

5 Pasaron el Jordán y acamparon en Aroer, a la derecha de la ciudad que está en medio del valle de Gad, y hasta Jazer;

And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lies in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer:

6 luego llegaron a Galaad y a la tierra de Tahtim Hodshi; y llegaron a Dan Jaan y alrededor de Sidón,

Then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtimhodshi; and they came to Danjaan, and about to Zidon,

7 y llegaron a la fortaleza de Tiro, y a todas las ciudades de los heveos y de los cananeos; y salieron al sur de Judá, en Beerseba.

And came to the strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites: and they went out to the south of Judah, even to Beersheba.

8 Después de recorrer todo el país, llegaron a Jerusalén al cabo de nueve meses y veinte días.

So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

9 Joab entregó al rey la suma del recuento del pueblo; y había en Israel ochocientos mil hombres valientes que sacaban la espada, y los de Judá eran quinientos mil hombres.

And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

10 El corazón de David se conmovió después de haber contado al pueblo. David dijo a Yahvé: “He pecado mucho en lo que he hecho. Pero ahora, Yahvé, quita, te lo ruego, la iniquidad de tu siervo; porque he actuado con mucha insensatez.”

And David's heart stroke him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I plead to you, O LORD, take away the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.

11 Cuando David se levantó por la mañana, llegó la palabra de Yahvé al profeta Gad, vidente de David, diciendo:

For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,

12 “Ve y habla a David: “Yahvé dice: “Te ofrezco tres cosas. Elige una de ellas, para que te la haga””.

Go and say unto David, Thus says the LORD, I offer you three things; choose you one of them, that I may do it unto you.

13 Gad vino a David y le dijo: “¿Te vendrán siete años de hambre en tu tierra? ¿O huirás tres meses ante tus enemigos mientras te persiguen? ¿O habrá tres días de pestilencia en tu tierra? Responde ahora, y considera qué respuesta daré al que me ha enviado”.

So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto you in your land? or will you flee three months before your enemies, while they pursue you? or that there be three days' pestilence in your land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

14 David dijo a Gad: “Estoy en apuros. Caigamos ahora en la mano de Yahvé, porque sus misericordias son grandes. No caiga en la mano del hombre”.

And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.

15 El Señor envió una peste sobre Israel desde la mañana hasta la hora señalada, y murieron setenta mil hombres del pueblo, desde Dan hasta Beerseba.

So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.

16 Cuando el ángel extendió su mano hacia Jerusalén para destruirla, Yahvé se despreocupó del desastre y dijo al ángel que destruía al pueblo: “Es suficiente. Ahora retira tu mano”. El ángel de Yahvé estaba junto a la era de Arauná el jebuseo.

And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now your hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.

17 David habló a Yahvé cuando vio al ángel que golpeaba al pueblo, y dijo: “He aquí que he pecado y he obrado perversamente; pero estas ovejas, ¿qué han hecho? Por favor, que tu mano esté contra mí y contra la casa de mi padre”.

And David spoke unto the LORD when he saw the angel that stroke the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let your hand, I pray you, be against me, and against my father's house.

18 Gad vino aquel día a David y le dijo: “Sube y construye un altar a Yahvé en la era de Arauna el jebuseo.”

And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

19 David subió según el dicho de Gad, tal como lo había ordenado el Señor.

And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as the LORD commanded.

20 Arauna se asomó y vio que el rey y sus servidores se acercaban a él. Entonces Arauna salió y se inclinó ante el rey con el rostro en tierra.

And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.

21 Arauna dijo: “¿Por qué ha venido mi señor el rey a su siervo?” David dijo: “Para comprar tu era, para construir un altar a Yahvé, para que la plaga deje de afligir al pueblo”.

And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshing floor of you, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

22 Arauna dijo a David: “Que mi señor el rey tome y ofrezca lo que le parezca bien. He aquí el ganado para el holocausto, y los trillos y los yugos de los bueyes para la leña.

And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.

23 Todo esto, oh rey, lo da Arauna al rey”. Arauna dijo al rey: “Que Yahvé, tu Dios, te acepte”.

All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD your God accept you.

24 El rey le dijo a Arauna: “No, pero ciertamente te lo compraré por un precio. No ofreceré a Yahvé mi Dios holocaustos que no me cuestan nada”. Así que David compró la era y los bueyes por cincuenta siclos de plata.

And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of you at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which does cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

25 David construyó allí un altar a Yahvé, y ofreció holocaustos y ofrendas de paz. Así se suplicó a Yahvé por la tierra, y la plaga se alejó de Israel.

And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was implored for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
