2 Samuel 10
1 Después de esto, el rey de los hijos de Amón murió, y su hijo Hanún reinó en su lugar.
And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanon his son reigned in his stead.
2 David dijo: “Me mostraré bondadoso con Hanún, hijo de Nahas, como su padre se mostró bondadoso conmigo”. Así que David envió por medio de sus siervos a consolarlo en lo que respecta a su padre. Los siervos de David llegaron a la tierra de los hijos de Amón.
And David said: I Will shew kindness to Hanon the son of Daas, as his father shewed kindness to me. So David sent his servants to comfort him for the death of his father. But when the servants of David were come into the land of the children of Ammon,
3 Pero los príncipes de los hijos de Amón dijeron a Hanún, su señor: “¿Piensas que David honra a tu padre, pues te ha enviado consoladores? ¿Acaso no ha enviado David a sus siervos para que registren la ciudad, la espíen y la derriben?”
The princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanon their lord: Thinkest thou that for the honour of thy father, David hath sent comforters to thee, and hath not David rather sent his servants to thee to search, and spy into the city, and overthrow it?
4 Entonces Hanún tomó a los siervos de David, les afeitó la mitad de la barba y les cortó los vestidos por la mitad, hasta las nalgas, y los despidió.
Wherefore Hanon took the servants of David, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut away half of their garments even to the buttocks, and sent them away.
5 Cuando le contaron esto a David, éste envió a recibirlos, pues los hombres estaban muy avergonzados. El rey les dijo: “Esperen en Jericó hasta que les crezca la barba, y luego vuelvan”.
When this was told David, he sent to meet them: for the men were sadly put to confusion, and David commanded them, saying: Stay at Jericho, till your beards be grown, and then return.
6 Cuando los hijos de Amón vieron que se habían vuelto odiosos para David, los hijos de Amón enviaron y contrataron a los sirios de Bet Rehob y a los sirios de Soba, veinte mil hombres de a pie, y al rey de Maaca con mil hombres, y a los hombres de Tob doce mil hombres.
And the children of Ammon seeing that they had done an injury to David, Bent and hired the Syrians of Rohob, and the Syrians of Soba, twenty thousand footmen, and of the king of Maacha a thousand men, and of Istob twelve thousand men.
7 Cuando David se enteró, envió a Joab y a todo el ejército de valientes.
And when David heard this, he sent Joab and the whole army of warriors.
8 Los hijos de Amón salieron y pusieron la batalla en orden a la entrada de la puerta. Los sirios de Soba y de Rehob y los hombres de Tob y de Maaca estaban solos en el campo.
And the children of Ammon came out, and set their men in array at the entering in of the gate: but the Syrians of Soba, and of Rohob, and of Istob, and of Maacha were by themselves in the field.
9 Cuando Joab vio que la batalla estaba en su contra por delante y por detrás, eligió a todos los hombres selectos de Israel y los puso en orden de batalla contra los sirios.
Then Joab seeing that the battle was prepared against him, both before and behind, chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:
10 El resto del pueblo lo puso en manos de Abisai, su hermano, y lo alineó contra los amonitas.
And the rest of the people he delivered to Abisai his brother, who set them in array against the children of Ammon.
11 Dijo: “Si los sirios son demasiado fuertes para mí, tú me ayudarás; pero si los hijos de Amón son demasiado fuertes para ti, yo iré a ayudarte.
And Joab said: If the Syrians are too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon are too strong for thee, then I will help thee.
12 Sé valiente y seamos fuertes por nuestro pueblo y por las ciudades de nuestro Dios; y que Yahvé haga lo que le parezca bien.”
Be of good courage, and let us fight for our people, and for the city of our God: and the Lord will do what is good in his sight.
13 Así que Joab y la gente que estaba con él se acercaron a la batalla contra los sirios, y huyeron ante él.
And Joab and the people that were with him, began to fight against the Syrians: and they immediately fled before him.
14 Cuando los hijos de Amón vieron que los sirios habían huido, también ellos huyeron ante Abisai y entraron en la ciudad. Entonces Joab regresó de los hijos de Amón y llegó a Jerusalén.
And the children of Ammon seeing that the Syrians were fled, they fled also before Abisai, and entered into the city: and Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
15 Cuando los sirios vieron que habían sido derrotados por Israel, se reunieron.
Then the Syrians seeing that they had fallen before Israel, gathered themselves together.
16 Hadadzer envió y sacó a los sirios que estaban al otro lado del río; y llegaron a Helam, con Sobac, el capitán del ejército de Hadadzer, a la cabeza.
And Adarezer sent and fetched the Syrians, that were beyond the river, and brought over their army: and Sobach, the captain of the host of Adarezer, was their general.
17 David fue informado de esto, y reunió a todo Israel, pasó el Jordán y llegó a Helam. Los sirios se pusieron en guardia contra David y lucharon contra él.
And when this was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam: and the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought against him.
18 Los sirios huyeron ante Israel, y David mató a setecientos aurigas de los sirios y a cuarenta mil jinetes, e hirió a Sobac, jefe de su ejército, que murió allí.
And the Syrians fled before Israel, and David slew of the Syrians the men of seven hundred chariots, and forty thousand horsemen: and smote Sobach the captain of the army, who presently died.
19 Cuando todos los reyes que estaban al servicio de Hadadézer vieron que habían sido derrotados ante Israel, hicieron la paz con Israel y les sirvieron. Entonces los sirios tuvieron miedo de seguir ayudando a los hijos de Amón.
And all the kings that were auxiliaries of Adarezer, seeing themselves overcome by Israel, were afraid and fled away, eight and fifty thousand men before Israel. And they made peace with Israel: and served them, and all the Syrians were afraid to help the children of Ammon any more.
