2 Reyes 11

1 Cuando Atalía, madre de Ocozías, vio que su hijo había muerto, se levantó y destruyó toda la descendencia real.

Now when Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son was dead, she arose and killed all the royal children.

2 Pero Josheba, hija del rey Joram, hermana de Ocozías, tomó a Joás, hijo de Ocozías, y lo robó de entre los hijos del rey que habían sido asesinados, a él y a su nodriza, y los puso en la alcoba; y lo escondieron de Atalía, para que no lo mataran.

But Jehosheba, a daughter of King Jehoram and sister of Ahaziah, took Joash son of Ahaziah, and hid him away from among the king's sons who were killed, along with his nurse; she put them into a bedroom. They hid him from Athaliah so that he was not killed.

3 Estuvo con ella escondido en la casa de Yahvé seis años, mientras Atalía reinaba sobre el país.

He remained with her six years, hidden in the house of Yahweh, while Athaliah reigned over the land.

4 En el séptimo año, Joiada envió a buscar a los capitanes de centenares de caritas y de la guardia, y los trajo a él a la casa de Yahvé; e hizo con ellos un pacto, y les mostró al hijo del rey.

In the seventh year, Jehoiada sent messages and brought the commanders of hundreds of the Carites and of the guard, and brought them to himself, into the temple of Yahweh. He made a covenant with them, and he made them swear an oath in the house of Yahweh. Then he showed them the king's son.

5 Les ordenó, diciendo: “Esto es lo que debéis hacer: un tercio de vosotros, los que entréis en sábado, seréis guardianes de la guardia de la casa del rey;

He commanded them, saying, “This is what you must do. A third of you who come on the Sabbath will keep watch over the king's house,

6 un tercio de vosotros estará en la puerta Sur, y un tercio de vosotros en la puerta detrás de la guardia. Así vigilaréis la casa, y seréis una barrera.

and a third will be at the Sur Gate, and a third at the gate behind the guardhouse.”

7 Los dos grupos de ustedes, todos los que salen el sábado, mantendrán la guardia de la casa de Yahvé alrededor del rey.

The two other groups who are not serving on the Sabbath, you must keep the watch over the house of Yahweh for the king.

8 Rodead al rey, cada uno con sus armas en la mano; y el que se acerque a las filas, que lo maten. Estad con el rey cuando salga y cuando entre”.

You must surround the king, every man with his weapons in his hand. Whoever enters within your ranks, let him be killed. You must stay with the king when he goes out, and when he comes in.

9 Los capitanes de centenas hicieron todo lo que ordenó el sacerdote Joiada, y cada uno tomó a sus hombres, los que debían entrar en sábado con los que debían salir en sábado, y vinieron al sacerdote Joiada.

So the commanders of hundreds obeyed everything Jehoiada the priest commanded. Each one took his men, those who were to come in to serve on the Sabbath, and those who were to stop serving on that Sabbath; and they came to Jehoiada the priest.

10 El sacerdote entregó a los capitanes de más de cien años las lanzas y los escudos que habían sido del rey David y que estaban en la casa de Yahvé.

Then Jehoiada the priest gave the commanders of hundreds the spears and shields that belonged to King David and that were in the house of Yahweh.

11 La guardia se puso en pie, cada uno con sus armas en la mano, desde el lado derecho de la casa hasta el lado izquierdo, junto al altar y la casa, alrededor del rey.

So the guards stood, each man with his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side, near the altar and the temple, surrounding the king.

12 Entonces sacó al hijo del rey, le puso la corona y le dio la alianza; lo proclamaron rey y lo ungieron, y aplaudieron y dijeron: “¡Viva el rey!”

Then Jehoiada brought out the king's son Joash, put the crown on him, and gave him the covenant decrees. Then they made him king and anointed him. They clapped their hands and said, “Long live the king!”

13 Cuando Atalía oyó el ruido de la guardia y del pueblo, se acercó al pueblo a la casa de Yahvé;

When Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people in the house of Yahweh.

14 y miró, y he aquí que el rey estaba de pie junto a la columna, como era la tradición, con los capitanes y las trompetas junto al rey; y todo el pueblo del país se alegró y tocó las trompetas. Entonces Atalía se rasgó las vestiduras y gritó: “¡Traición! Traición!”

She looked, and, behold, the king was standing by the pillar, as the custom was, and the captains and the trumpeters were by the king. All the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets. Then Athaliah tore her clothes and shouted, “Treason! Treason!”

15 El sacerdote Joiada ordenó a los capitanes de centenas que estaban al mando del ejército y les dijo: “Sáquenla entre las filas. Maten a espada a cualquiera que la siga”. Porque el sacerdote dijo: “No dejen que la maten en la casa de Yahvé”.

Then Jehoiada the priest ordered the commanders of hundreds who were over the army, saying, “Bring her out between the ranks. Anyone who follows her, kill him with the sword.” For the priest had said, “Do not let her be killed in the house of Yahweh.”

16 Así que la apresaron, y se fue por el camino de la entrada de los caballos a la casa del rey, y allí la mataron.

So they seized her as she reached the place where the horses enter the palace grounds, and there she was killed.

17 Joiada hizo un pacto entre Yahvé y el rey y el pueblo, para que fueran pueblo de Yahvé; también entre el rey y el pueblo.

Then Jehoiada made a covenant between Yahweh and the king and people, that they should be Yahweh's people, and also between the king and the people.

18 Todo el pueblo del país fue a la casa de Baal y la derribó. Rompieron a fondo sus altares y sus imágenes, y mataron a Matán, el sacerdote de Baal, delante de los altares. El sacerdote nombró oficiales sobre la casa de Yahvé.

So all the people of the land went to the house of Baal and tore it down. They smashed Baal's altars and his idol figures to pieces, and they killed Mattan, the priest of Baal, in front of those altars. Then Jehoida the priest appointed guards over the temple of Yahweh.

19 Tomó a los capitanes de centenas, a los caritas, a la guardia y a todo el pueblo del país, y bajaron al rey de la casa de Yahvé, y llegaron por el camino de la puerta de la guardia a la casa del rey. Él se sentó en el trono de los reyes.

Jehoida took with him the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, the guard, and all the people of the land, and together they brought down the king from the house of Yahweh and they went into the king's house, entering by way of the gate of the guards. Joash took his place on the royal throne.

20 Entonces todo el pueblo del país se alegró, y la ciudad se tranquilizó. Habían matado a Atalía con la espada en la casa del rey.

So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet after Athaliah had been killed with the sword at the king's house.

21 Joás tenía siete años cuando comenzó a reinar.

Joash was seven years old when he began to reign.
