1 Samuel 20
1 David huyó de Naiot, en Ramá, y vino a decir a Jonatán: “¿Qué he hecho? ¿Cuál es mi iniquidad? ¿Cuál es mi pecado ante tu padre, para que busque mi vida?”
And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is my iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?
2 Él le dijo: “Ni mucho menos; no morirás. He aquí que mi padre no hace nada, ni grande ni pequeño, sino que me lo revela. ¿Por qué iba mi padre a ocultarme esto? No es así”.
And he said to him, Far be it from thee; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, but that he will show it to me: and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.
3 Además, David juró y dijo: “Tu padre sabe bien que he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, y dice: ‘No dejes que Jonatán lo sepa, para que no se aflija’; pero en verdad, vive Yahvé y vive tu alma, que sólo hay un paso entre yo y la muerte.”
And David swore moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thy eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he should be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
4 Entonces Jonatán dijo a David: “Todo lo que tu alma desee, lo haré por ti”.
Then said Jonathan to David, Whatever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.
5 David dijo a Jonatán: “He aquí que mañana es luna nueva, y no debo dejar de cenar con el rey; pero déjame que me esconda en el campo hasta el tercer día por la tarde.
And David said to Jonathan, Behold, to morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at the table: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field to the third day at evening.
6 Si tu padre me echa de menos, dile: ‘David me ha pedido encarecidamente que le deje ir a Belén, su ciudad, porque allí se celebra el sacrificio anual para toda la familia’.
If thy father shall at all miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city: for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.
7 Si él dice: “Está bien”, tu siervo tendrá paz; pero si se enoja, debes saber que el mal está determinado por él.
If he shall say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he shall be very angry, then be sure that evil is determined by him.
8 Trata, pues, con benevolencia a tu siervo, porque lo has llevado a un pacto de Yahvé contigo; pero si hay iniquidad en mí, mátame tú mismo, pues ¿para qué me has de llevar a tu padre?”
Therefore thou shalt deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the LORD with thee: however, if there is in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?
9 Jonatán dijo: “Lejos de ti, pues si yo supiera que el mal está determinado por mi padre a venir sobre ti, ¿no te lo diría?”
And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil is determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?
10 Entonces David dijo a Jonatán: “¿Quién me dirá si tu padre te responde con rudeza?”
Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy father shall answer thee roughly?
11 Jonatán dijo a David: “¡Ven! Salgamos al campo”. Ambos salieron al campo.
And Jonathan said to David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.
12 Jonatán dijo a David: “Por Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, cuando haya sondeado a mi padre mañana a esta hora, o al tercer día, he aquí que si hay bien hacia David, ¿no enviaré entonces a ti y te lo revelaré?
And Jonathan said to David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not to thee, and show it thee;
13 Que Yahvé haga así con Jonatán y más aún, si a mi padre le agrada haceros mal, si no os lo revelo y os envío, para que vayáis en paz. Que Yahvé esté contigo como ha estado con mi padre.
The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it shall please my father to do thee evil, then I will show it to thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father.
14 No sólo me mostrarás la bondad amorosa de Yahvé mientras viva, para que no muera;
And thou shalt not only while yet I live show me the kindness of the LORD, that I may not die:
15 sino que tampoco cortarás tu bondad de mi casa para siempre, no, cuando Yahvé haya cortado a cada uno de los enemigos de David de la superficie de la tierra.”
But also thou shalt not withdraw thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.
16 Entonces Jonatán hizo un pacto con la casa de David, diciendo: “Yahvé lo exigirá de la mano de los enemigos de David.”
So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the LORD even require it at the hand of David’s enemies.
17 Jonatán hizo que David volviera a jurar, por el amor que le tenía, pues lo amaba como a su propia alma.
And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul.
18 Entonces Jonatán le dijo: “Mañana es luna nueva, y se te echará de menos, porque tu asiento estará vacío.
Then Jonathan said to David, To morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.
19 Cuando hayas permanecido tres días, baja rápidamente y ven al lugar donde te escondiste cuando esto empezó, y quédate junto a la piedra Ezel.
And when thou hast stayed three days, then thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself when the business was in hand, and shalt remain by the stone Ezel.
20 Yo lanzaré tres flechas a su lado, como si disparara a una marca.
And I will shoot three arrows on the side of it, as though I shot at a mark.
21 He aquí que yo enviaré al muchacho, diciendo: “¡Ve, busca las flechas! Si le digo al muchacho: ‘Mira, las flechas están a este lado tuyo. Tómalas’; entonces ven, porque hay paz para ti y no hay peligro, vive Yahvé.
And, behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go, find the arrows. If I expressly say to the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for there is peace to thee, and no hurt; as the LORD liveth.
22 Pero si le digo al muchacho: ‘He aquí que las flechas están más allá de ti’, entonces vete, porque Yahvé te ha enviado.
But if I say thus to the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way: for the LORD hath sent thee away.
23 En cuanto al asunto del que tú y yo hemos hablado, he aquí que Yahvé está entre tú y yo para siempre.”
And as to the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, the LORD be between thee and me for ever.
24 Entonces David se escondió en el campo. Cuando llegó la luna nueva, el rey se sentó a comer.
So David hid himself in the field: and when the new moon had come, the king sat down to eat food.
25 El rey se sentó en su silla, como otras veces, incluso en el asiento junto a la pared; y Jonatán se puso de pie, y Abner se sentó al lado de Saúl, pero el lugar de David estaba vacío.
And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon a seat by the wall: and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul’s side, and David’s place was empty.
26 Sin embargo, Saúl no dijo nada ese día, pues pensó: “Algo le ha sucedido. No está limpio. Seguramente no está limpio”.
Nevertheless Saul spoke not any thing that day: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean.
27 Al día siguiente de la luna nueva, el segundo día, el lugar de David estaba vacío. Saúl le dijo a su hijo Jonatán: “¿Por qué no vino a comer el hijo de Isaí, ni ayer ni hoy?”.
And it came to pass on the next day, which was the second day of the month, that David’s place was empty: and Saul said to Jonathan his son, Why cometh not the son of Jesse to eat, neither yesterday, nor to day?
28 Jonatán respondió a Saúl: “David me pidió encarecidamente permiso para ir a Belén.
And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem:
29 Dijo: ‘Por favor, déjame ir, porque nuestra familia tiene un sacrificio en la ciudad. Mi hermano me ha ordenado que esté allí. Ahora, si he encontrado gracia ante tus ojos, por favor déjame ir a ver a mis hermanos’. Por eso no ha venido a la mesa del rey”.
And he said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me to be there: and now, if I have found favour in thy eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he cometh not to the king’s table.
30 Entonces la ira de Saúl ardió contra Jonatán, y le dijo: “Hijo de una perversa rebelde, ¿no sé que has elegido al hijo de Isaí para vergüenza tuya y de tu madre?
Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thy own shame, and to the shame of thy mother’s nakedness?
31 Porque mientras el hijo de Isaí viva en la tierra, tú no serás establecido, ni tu reino. Por lo tanto, ¡envía ahora y tráemelo, porque seguramente morirá!”
For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the earth, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Therefore now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.
32 Jonatán respondió a su padre Saúl y le dijo: “¿Por qué ha de morir? ¿Qué ha hecho?”
And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, Why shall he be slain? what hath he done?
33 Saúl le arrojó su lanza para herirlo. Con esto, Jonatán supo que su padre estaba decidido a dar muerte a David.
And Saul cast a javelin at him to smite him: by which Jonathan knew that it was determined by his father to slay David.
34 Así que Jonatán se levantó de la mesa con una furia terrible y no comió nada el segundo día del mes, pues estaba afligido por David, porque su padre lo había tratado de manera vergonzosa.
So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and ate no food the second day of the month: for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.
35 Por la mañana, Jonatán salió al campo a la hora señalada con David, y un niño pequeño con él.
And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him.
36 Le dijo a su niño: “Corre, encuentra ahora las flechas que yo tiro”. Mientras el niño corría, disparó una flecha más allá de él.
And he said to his lad, Run, find now the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.
37 Cuando el niño llegó al lugar de la flecha que Jonatán había disparado, Jonatán gritó tras el niño y le dijo: “¿No está la flecha más allá de ti?”
And when the lad had come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad, and said, Is not the arrow beyond thee?
38 Jonatán gritó tras el muchacho: “¡Ve rápido! ¡Apresúrate! No te demores”. El muchacho de Jonatán recogió las flechas y se acercó a su amo.
And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Jonathan’s lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.
39 Pero el muchacho no sabía nada. Sólo Jonatán y David sabían el asunto.
But the lad knew not any thing: only Jonathan and David knew the matter.
40 Jonatán le dio las armas a su muchacho y le dijo: “Ve, llévalas a la ciudad”.
And Jonathan gave his weapons to his lad, and said to him, Go, carry them to the city.
41 En cuanto el muchacho se fue, David se levantó del sur, se postró en tierra y se inclinó tres veces. Se besaron y lloraron mutuamente, y David fue el que más lloró.
And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, but David more so.
42 Jonatán dijo a David: “Vete en paz, porque ambos hemos jurado en nombre de Yahvé, diciendo: “Yahvé está entre tú y yo, y entre mi descendencia y tu descendencia, para siempre””. Él se levantó y partió; y Jonatán entró en la ciudad.
And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.
