1 Samuel 17
1 Los filisteos reunieron sus ejércitos para combatir, y se reunieron en Soco, que pertenece a Judá, y acamparon entre Soco y Azeca, en Efesdammim.
Now the Philistines gathering together their troops to battle, assembled at Socho of Juda, and camped between Socho and Azeca in the borders of Dommim.
2 Saúl y los hombres de Israel se reunieron y acamparon en el valle de Ela, y prepararon la batalla contra los filisteos.
And Saul and the children of Israel being gathered together came to the valley of Terebinth, and they set the army in array to fight against the Philistines.
3 Los filisteos estaban en la montaña de un lado, e Israel estaba en la montaña del otro lado; y había un valle entre ellos.
And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
4 Del campamento de los filisteos salió un campeón llamado Goliat de Gat, cuya altura era de seis codos y un palmo.
And there went out a man baseborn from the camp of the Philistines named Goliath, of Geth, whose height was six cubits and a span:
5 Tenía un casco de bronce en la cabeza y llevaba una cota de malla, cuyo peso era de cinco mil siclos de bronce.
And he had a helmet of brass upon his head, and he was clothed with a coat of mail with scales, and the weight of his coat of mail was five thousand sicles of brass:
6 Tenía espinilleras de bronce en las piernas y una jabalina de bronce entre los hombros.
And he had greaves of brass on his legs, and a buckler of brass covered his shoulders.
7 El asta de su lanza era como una viga de tejedor, y la punta de su lanza pesaba seiscientos siclos de hierro. Su escudero iba delante de él.
And the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and the head of his spear weighed six hundred sicles of iron: and his armourbearer went before him.
8 Se puso de pie y gritó a los ejércitos de Israel, y les dijo: “¿Por qué habéis salido a preparar vuestra batalla? ¿Acaso no soy yo un filisteo, y vosotros siervos de Saúl? Escoged a un hombre para vosotros, y que baje hacia mí.
And standing he cried out to the bands of Israel, and said to them: Why are you come out prepared to fight? am not I a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose out a man of you, and let him come down and fight hand to hand.
9 Si es capaz de luchar conmigo y de matarme, entonces seremos tus siervos; pero si yo venzo contra él y lo mato, entonces seréis nuestros siervos y nos serviréis.”
If he be able to fight with me, and kill me, we will be servants to you: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, you shall be servants, and shall serve us.
10 El filisteo dijo: “¡Desafío hoy a los ejércitos de Israel! Dame un hombre, para que luchemos juntos”.
And the Philistine said: I have defied the bands of Israel this day: Give me a man, and let him fight with me hand to hand.
11 Cuando Saúl y todo Israel oyeron estas palabras del filisteo, se espantaron y tuvieron mucho miedo.
And Saul and all the Israelites hearing these words of the Philistine were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
12 David era hijo de aquel efrateo de Belén de Judá, que se llamaba Isaí, y tenía ocho hijos. El hombre era un anciano en los días de Saúl.
Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Juda before mentioned, whose name was Isai, who had eight sons, and was an old man in the days of Saul, and of great age among men.
13 Los tres hijos mayores de Isaí habían ido en pos de Saúl a la batalla; y los nombres de sus tres hijos que fueron a la batalla eran Eliab, el primogénito, y junto a él Abinadab, y el tercero Samá.
And his three eldest sons followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle, were Eliab the firstborn, and the second Abinadab, and the third Samma.
14 David era el menor, y los tres mayores siguieron a Saúl.
But David was the youngest. So the three eldest having followed Saul,
15 David iba y venía de Saúl para apacentar las ovejas de su padre en Belén.
David went, and returned from Saul, to feed his father’s flock at Bethlehem.
16 El filisteo se acercó por la mañana y por la tarde, y se presentó durante cuarenta días.
Now the Philistine came out morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
17 Isaí dijo a su hijo David: “Toma ahora para tus hermanos un efa de este grano tostado y estos diez panes, y llévalos rápidamente al campamento para tus hermanos;
And Isai said to David his son: Take for thy brethren an ephi of frumenty, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren.
18 y lleva estos diez quesos al capitán de sus mil; y mira cómo están tus hermanos, y trae noticias.”
And carry these ten little cheeses to the tribune: and go see thy brethren, if they are well: and learn with whom they are placed.
19 Saúl, ellos y todos los hombres de Israel estaban en el valle de Elah, luchando contra los filisteos.
But Saul, and they, and all the children of Israel were in the valley of Terebinth fighting against the Philistines.
20 David se levantó de madrugada, dejó las ovejas con un cuidador, tomó las provisiones y se fue, como le había ordenado Isaí. Llegó al lugar de los carros cuando el ejército que salía a la lucha gritaba para la batalla.
David therefore arose in the morning, and gave the charge of the flock to the keeper: and went away loaded as Isai had commanded him. And he came to the place of Magala, and to the army, which was going out to fight, and shouted for the battle.
21 Israel y los filisteos se prepararon para la batalla, ejército contra ejército.
For Israel had put themselves in array, and the Philistines who stood against them were prepared.
22 David dejó su equipaje en manos del guardián del equipaje y corrió hacia el ejército, y llegó a saludar a sus hermanos.
And David leaving the vessels which he had brought, under the care of the keeper of the baggage, ran to the place of the battle and asked if all things went well with his brethren.
23 Mientras hablaba con ellos, he aquí que el campeón, el filisteo de Gat, de nombre Goliat, salió de las filas de los filisteos y dijo las mismas palabras; y David las oyó.
And as he talked with them, that baseborn man whose name was Goliath, the Philistine, of Geth, shewed himself coming up from the camp of the Philistines: and he spoke according to the same words, and David heard them.
24 Todos los hombres de Israel, al ver al hombre, huyeron de él y se aterrorizaron.
And all the Israelites when they saw the man, fled from his face, fearing him exceedingly.
25 Los hombres de Israel dijeron: “¿Habéis visto a este hombre que ha subido? Seguramente ha subido para desafiar a Israel. El rey dará grandes riquezas al hombre que lo mate, y le dará su hija, y hará que la casa de su padre quede libre de impuestos en Israel.”
And some one of Israel said: Have you seen this man that is come up, for he is come up to defy Israel. And the man that shall slay him, the king will enrich with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and will make his father’s house free from tribute in Israel.
26 David habló con los hombres que estaban a su lado, diciendo: “¿Qué se hará con el hombre que mate a este filisteo y quite el oprobio a Israel? Porque ¿quién es este filisteo incircunciso, para que desafíe a los ejércitos del Dios vivo?”
And David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying: What shall be given to the man that shall kill this Philistine, and shall take away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
27 La gente le respondió así: “Así se hará con el que lo mate”.
And the people answered him the same words saying: These things shall be given to the man that shall slay him.
28 Eliab, su hermano mayor, oyó cuando hablaba con los hombres; y la ira de Eliab ardió contra David, y dijo: “¿Por qué has bajado? ¿Con quién has dejado esas pocas ovejas en el desierto? Conozco tu orgullo y la maldad de tu corazón; porque has descendido para ver la batalla”.
Now when Eliab his eldest brother heard this, when he was speaking with others, he was angry with David, and said: Why earnest thou hither? and why didst thou leave those few sheep in the desert? I know thy pride, and the wickedness of thy heart: that thou art come down to see the battle.
29 David dijo: “¿Qué he hecho ahora? ¿No hay una causa?”
And David said: What have I done? is there not cause to speak?
30 Se apartó de él hacia otro, y volvió a hablar así; y el pueblo volvió a responderle de la misma manera.
And he turned a little aside from him to another: and said the same word. And the people answered him as before.
31 Al oír las palabras que David había dicho, las repitieron ante Saúl, y éste mandó a buscarlo.
And the words which David spoke were heard, and were rehearsed before Saul.
32 David dijo a Saúl: “Que no desfallezca el corazón de nadie a causa de él. Tu siervo irá a pelear con este filisteo”.
And when he was brought to him, he said to him: Let not any man’s heart be dismayed in him: I thy servant will go, and will fight against the Philistine.
33 Saúl dijo a David: “No eres capaz de ir contra ese filisteo para luchar con él, pues tú eres sólo un joven, y él un hombre de guerra desde su juventud.”
And Saul said to David: Thou art not able to withstand this Philistine, nor to fight against him: for thou art but a boy, but he is a warrior from his youth.
34 David dijo a Saúl: “Tu siervo estaba cuidando las ovejas de su padre; y cuando vino un león o un oso y se llevó un cordero del rebaño,
And David said to Saul: Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, or a bear, and took a ram out of the midst of the flock:
35 salí tras él, lo golpeé y lo rescaté de su boca. Cuando se levantó contra mí, lo agarré por la barba, lo golpeé y lo maté.
And I pursued after them, and struck them, and delivered it out of their mouth: and they rose up against me, and I caught them by the throat, and I strangled and killed them.
36 Tu siervo golpeó al león y al oso. Este filisteo incircunciso será como uno de ellos, pues ha desafiado a los ejércitos del Dios vivo.”
For I thy servant have killed both a lion and a bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be also as one of them. I will go now, and take away the reproach of the people: for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, who hath dared to curse the army of the living God?
37 David dijo: “El Señor, que me libró de la zarpa del león y de la zarpa del oso, me librará de la mano de este filisteo.” Saúl le dijo a David: “Ve, Yahvé estará contigo”.
And David said: The Lord who delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David: Go, and the Lord be with thee.
38 Saúl vistió a David con sus ropas. Le puso un casco de bronce en la cabeza y lo vistió con una cota de malla.
And Saul clothed David with his garments, and put a helmet of brass upon his head, and armed him with a coat of mail.
39 David se ató la espada a la ropa y trató de moverse, pues no la había probado. David le dijo a Saúl: “No puedo ir con esto, pues no lo he probado”. Entonces David se los quitó.
And David having girded his sword upon his armour, began to try if he could walk in armour: for he was not accustomed to it. And David said to Saul: I cannot go thus, for I am not used to it. And he laid them off,
40 Tomó su bastón en la mano, y escogió para sí cinco piedras lisas del arroyo, y las puso en el zurrón de su bolsa de pastor que tenía. Tenía su honda en la mano, y se acercó al filisteo.
And he took his staff, which he had always in his hands: and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them into the shepherd’s scrip, which he had with him, and he took a sling in his hand, and went forth against the Philistine.
41 El filisteo caminó y se acercó a David, y el hombre que llevaba el escudo iba delante de él.
And the Philistine came on, and drew nigh against David, and his armourbearer before him.
42 Cuando el filisteo miró a su alrededor y vio a David, lo menospreció, pues era un joven rubio y de buen aspecto.
And when the Philistine looked, and beheld David, he despised him. For he was a young man, ruddy, and of a comely countenance.
43 El filisteo dijo a David: “¿Soy un perro, para que vengas a mí con palos?” El filisteo maldijo a David por sus dioses.
And the Philistine said to David: Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with a staff? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 El filisteo dijo a David: “Ven a mí, y daré tu carne a las aves del cielo y a los animales del campo”.
And he said to David: Come to me, and I will give thy flesh to the birds of the air, and to the beasts of the earth.
45 Entonces David dijo al filisteo: “Tú vienes a mí con espada, con lanza y con jabalina; pero yo vengo a ti en nombre del Señor de los Ejércitos, el Dios de los ejércitos de Israel, a quien has desafiado.
And David said to the Philistine: Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, which thou hast defied.
46 Hoy, Yahvé te entregará en mi mano. Te golpearé y te quitaré la cabeza. Entregaré hoy los cadáveres del ejército de los filisteos a las aves del cielo y a las fieras de la tierra, para que toda la tierra sepa que hay un Dios en Israel,
This day, and the Lord will deliver thee into my hand, and I will slay thee, and take away thy head from thee: and I will give the carcasses of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air, and to the beasts of the earth: that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
47 y para que toda esta asamblea sepa que Yahvé no salva con espada y lanza; porque la batalla es de Yahvé, y él te entregará en nuestra mano.”
And all this assembly shall know, that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for it is his battle, and he will deliver you into our hands.
48 Cuando el filisteo se levantó y caminó y se acercó para encontrarse con David, éste se apresuró y corrió hacia el ejército para encontrarse con el filisteo.
And when the Philistine arose and was coming, and drew nigh to meet David, David made haste, and ran to the fight to meet the Philistine.
49 David metió la mano en su bolsa, tomó una piedra y la lanzó, e hirió al filisteo en la frente. La piedra se hundió en su frente, y él cayó de bruces a la tierra.
And he put his hand into his scrip, and took a stone, and cast it with the sling, and fetching it about struck the Philistine in the forehead: and the stone was fixed in his forehead, and he fell on his face upon the earth.
50 Entonces David se impuso al filisteo con la honda y con la piedra, e hirió al filisteo y lo mató; pero David no tenía espada en la mano.
And David prevailed over the Philistine, with a sling and a stone, and he struck, and slew the Philistine. And as David had no sword in his hand,
51 Entonces David corrió, se paró sobre el filisteo, tomó su espada, la sacó de su vaina, lo mató y le cortó la cabeza con ella. Cuando los filisteos vieron que su campeón había muerto, huyeron.
He ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath, and slew him, and cut off his head. And the Philistines seeing that their champion was dead, fled away.
52 Los hombres de Israel y de Judá se levantaron y gritaron, y persiguieron a los filisteos hasta Gai y hasta las puertas de Ecrón. Los heridos de los filisteos cayeron por el camino de Shaaraim, hasta Gat y Ecrón.
And the men of Israel and Juda rising up shouted, and pursued after the Philistines till they came to the valley and to the gates of Accaron, and there fell many wounded of the Philistines in the way of Saraim, and as far as Geth, and as far as Accaron.
53 Los hijos de Israel volvieron de perseguir a los filisteos, y saquearon su campamento.
And the children of Israel returning, after they had pursued the Philistines, fell upon their camp.
54 David tomó la cabeza del filisteo y la llevó a Jerusalén, pero puso su armadura en su tienda.
And David taking the head of the Philistine brought it to Jerusalem: but his armour he put in his tent.
55 Cuando Saúl vio que David salía contra el filisteo, le dijo a Abner, el capitán del ejército: “Abner, ¿de quién es hijo este joven?” Abner dijo: “Como vive tu alma, oh rey, no puedo saberlo”.
Now at the time that Saul saw David going out against the Philistines, he said to Abner the captain of the army: Of what family is this young man descended, Abner? And Abner said: As thy soul liveth, O king, I know not.
56 El rey dijo: “¡Investiga de quién es hijo el joven!”
And the king said: Inquire thou, whose son this man is.
57 Cuando David regresó de la matanza del filisteo, Abner lo tomó y lo llevó ante Saúl con la cabeza del filisteo en la mano.
And when David was returned, after the Philistine was slain, Abner took him, and brought him in before Saul, with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
58 Saúl le dijo: “¿De quién eres hijo, joven?” David respondió: “Soy hijo de tu siervo Isaí, el de Belén”.
And Saul said to him: Young man, of what family art thou? And David said: I am the son of thy servant Isai the Bethlehemite.
