1 Samuel 14

1 Sucedió un día que Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, dijo al joven que llevaba su armadura: “¡Ven! Vamos a la guarnición de los filisteos que está al otro lado”. Pero no se lo dijo a su padre.

Now it happened one day that Jonathan, the son of Saul, said to the young man who carried his armor, "Come, let's go over to the Philistine garrison on the other side." But he did not tell his father.

2 Saúl se quedó en el extremo de Guibeá, bajo el granado que está en Migrón; y la gente que estaba con él era como seiscientos hombres,

Now Saul stayed in the outskirts of Gibeah under the pomegranate tree by the threshing floor, and the people who were with him were about six hundred men.

3 incluyendo a Ajías, hijo de Ajitub, hermano de Icabod, hijo de Finehas, hijo de Elí, sacerdote de Yahvé en Silo, que llevaba un efod. El pueblo no sabía que Jonatán se había ido.

Now Ahijah was wearing an ephod. He was the son of Ahitub, the brother of Ichabod, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of the LORD in Shiloh. And the people did not know that Jonathan was gone.

4 Entre los pasos por los que Jonatán pretendía pasar a la guarnición de los filisteos, había un peñasco a un lado y otro peñasco al otro lado; el nombre del uno era Bozez, y el del otro Seneh.

Now on each side of the pass through which Jonathan intended to cross to the Philistine garrison there was a steep cliff on one side and a steep cliff on the other side. And the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

5 Un peñasco se levantaba al norte, frente a Micmas, y el otro al sur, frente a Geba.

The one cliff was to north in front of Michmash, and the other on the south in front of Geba.

6 Jonatán dijo al joven que llevaba su armadura: “¡Ven! Vamos a la guarnición de estos incircuncisos. Puede ser que Yahvé actúe a nuestro favor, pues no hay freno para que Yahvé salve por muchos o por pocos.”

Then Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, "Come, let's go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the LORD will work for us, for nothing can prevent the LORD from saving by many or by a few."

7 El portador de su armadura le dijo: “Haz todo lo que está en tu corazón. Ve, y he aquí que yo estoy contigo según tu corazón”.

His armor bearer said to him, "Do all that your heart inclines toward. Look, I am with you, my heart is as your heart."

8 Entonces Jonatán dijo: “He aquí que pasaremos a los hombres y nos revelaremos a ellos.

Then Jonathan said, "Look, we will pass over to the men, and we will reveal ourselves to them.

9 Si nos dicen esto: ‘Esperen hasta que lleguemos a ustedes’, nos quedaremos quietos en nuestro lugar y no subiremos a ellos.

If they say thus to us, 'Wait until we come to you,' then we will stop where we are, and will not go up to them.

10 Pero si nos dicen esto: “¡Suban a nosotros!”, entonces subiremos, porque el Señor los ha entregado en nuestra mano. Esta será la señal para nosotros”.

But if they say this, 'Come up to us,' then we will go up; for the LORD has delivered them into our hand. This shall be the sign to us."

11 Ambos se revelaron ante la guarnición de los filisteos, y éstos dijeron: “¡Mira que los hebreos salen de los agujeros donde se habían escondido!”

Both of them revealed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, "Look, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they had hidden themselves."

12 Los hombres de la guarnición respondieron a Jonatán y a su portador de armadura y les dijeron: “¡Suban a nosotros y les mostraremos algo!” Jonatán dijo a su portador de armadura: “Sube detrás de mí, porque Yahvé los ha entregado en manos de Israel”.

The men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armor bearer, and said, "Come up to us, and we will show you something." Jonathan said to his armor bearer, "Come up after me; for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel."

13 Jonatán subió sobre sus manos y sus pies, y su escudero tras él, y ellos cayeron ante Jonatán; y su escudero los mató tras él.

Jonathan climbed up on his hands and on his feet, and his armor bearer after him. And they fell before Jonathan; and his armor bearer killed them after him.

14 Aquella primera matanza que hicieron Jonatán y su portador de armadura fue de unos veinte hombres, dentro de la longitud de medio surco en un acre de tierra.

That first slaughter which Jonathan and his armor bearer made was about twenty men, with arrows and with weapons from flints of the field.

15 Hubo un temblor en el campamento, en el campo y en todo el pueblo; la guarnición y los asaltantes también temblaron, y la tierra se estremeció, por lo que hubo un temblor sumamente grande.

And there was a terror in the camp, and in the field, and among all the people. The garrison and even the raiders were terrified. And the earth quaked, and it became a terror of God.

16 Los centinelas de Saúl en Gabaa de Benjamín miraron, y he aquí que la multitud se desvaneció y se dispersó.

And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin saw, and look, the multitude was scattering here and there.

17 Entonces Saúl dijo al pueblo que estaba con él: “Contad ahora y ved quién falta de nosotros.” Cuando hubieron contado, he aquí que Jonatán y su portador de armadura no estaban allí.

Then Saul said to the people who were with him, "Count now, and see who is missing from us." When they had counted, look, Jonathan and his armor bearer were not there.

18 Saúl dijo a Ahías: “Trae aquí el arca de Dios”. Pues el arca de Dios estaba con los hijos de Israel en ese momento.

And Saul said to Ahijah, "Bring near the ephod," for he wore the ephod at that time before Israel.

19 Mientras Saúl hablaba con el sacerdote, el tumulto que había en el campamento de los filisteos continuaba y aumentaba, y Saúl le dijo al sacerdote: “¡Retírate!”

And it happened, while Saul was speaking to the priest, that the tumult that was in the camp of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said to the priest, "Withdraw your hand."

20 Saúl y todo el pueblo que estaba con él se reunieron y vinieron a la batalla; y he aquí que todos se golpeaban con sus espadas en una gran confusión.

Saul and all the people who were with him were gathered together, and came to the battle: and look, every man's sword was against his fellow: a very great confusion.

21 Los hebreos que antes estaban con los filisteos y que subieron con ellos al campamento desde todos los alrededores, también se volvieron para estar con los israelitas que estaban con Saúl y Jonatán.

Now the Hebrews who were with the Philistines previously when they went up with them to the camp, they too turned to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.

22 Asimismo, todos los hombres de Israel que se habían escondido en la región montañosa de Efraín, cuando oyeron que los filisteos habían huido, también los siguieron con ahínco en la batalla.

Likewise all the men of Israel who had hidden themselves in the hill country of Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed closely after them in the battle.

23 Así salvó Yahvé a Israel aquel día, y la batalla pasó junto a Bet-Aven.

So the LORD saved Israel that day, and the battle passed over by Beth Aven. And all the people with Saul were about ten thousand men. And the battle extended itself into every city in the hill country of Ephraim.

24 Aquel día los hombres de Israel estaban angustiados, pues Saúl había conjurado al pueblo diciendo: “Maldito el hombre que coma cualquier alimento hasta que anochezca, y me vengue de mis enemigos.” Así que nadie del pueblo probó alimento.

And Saul committed a great blunder that day, for he had placed the people under an oath, saying, "Cursed is the man who eats any food until it is evening, and I am avenged of my enemies." So none of the people tasted food.

25 Todo el pueblo entró en el bosque, y había miel en el suelo.

Now all the people came upon a honeycomb, and there was honey on the ground.

26 Cuando el pueblo llegó al bosque, he aquí que la miel goteaba, pero nadie se llevó la mano a la boca, porque el pueblo temía el juramento.

And when the people came upon the honeycomb, look, its bees had left, but no man would raise his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath.

27 Pero Jonatán no escuchó cuando su padre ordenó al pueblo con el juramento. Por eso sacó la punta de la vara que tenía en la mano y la mojó en el panal, y se llevó la mano a la boca; y sus ojos se iluminaron.

But Jonathan did not hear when his father commanded the people with the oath, so he put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and raised his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.

28 Entonces respondió uno del pueblo y dijo: “Tu padre ordenó directamente al pueblo con un juramento, diciendo: “Maldito el hombre que hoy coma comida””. Entonces el pueblo se desmayó.

Then one of the people answered, and said, "Your father directly commanded the people with an oath, saying, 'Cursed is the man who eats food this day.'" The people were faint.

29 Entonces Jonatán dijo: “Mi padre ha turbado la tierra. Por favor, mira cómo se han iluminado mis ojos porque he probado un poco de esta miel.

Then Jonathan said, "My father has troubled the land. Please look how my eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.

30 ¿Cuánto más, si acaso el pueblo hubiera comido hoy libremente del botín de sus enemigos que encontró? Porque ahora no ha habido gran matanza entre los filisteos”.

How much better if the people had eaten freely today of the spoil of their enemies when they found it, for the slaughter among the Philistines would have been greater."

31 Aquel día atacaron a los filisteos desde Micmas hasta Ajalón. El pueblo estaba muy desmayado;

They struck of the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. The people were very faint;

32 y el pueblo se abalanzó sobre el botín, y tomó ovejas, vacas y terneros, y los mató en el suelo; y el pueblo se los comió con la sangre.

and the people pounced upon the spoil, and took sheep, and cattle, and calves, and killed them on the ground; and the people ate them with the blood.

33 Entonces se lo comunicaron a Saúl, diciendo: “He aquí que el pueblo peca contra Yahvé, pues come carne con la sangre.” Dijo: “Has hecho un trato traicionero. Hazme rodar hoy una gran piedra”.

Then they told Saul, saying, "Look, the people are sinning against the LORD, in that they eat meat with the blood." He said, "You have dealt treacherously. Roll a large stone to me this day."

34 Saúl dijo: “Dispérsense entre el pueblo y díganle: “Cada uno traiga aquí su buey y cada uno su oveja, y mátenlos aquí y coman, y no pequen contra Yahvé comiendo carne con la sangre”.” Todo el pueblo trajo aquella noche cada uno su buey, y los mató allí.

And Saul said, "Disperse yourselves among the people, and say to them, 'Each one of you bring to me his ox or his sheep, and slaughter them here and eat, and do not sin against the LORD by eating with the blood.'" So everyone of the people brought whatever he had at hand with him, and slaughtered it there.

35 Saúl construyó un altar a Yahvé. Este fue el primer altar que construyó a Yahvé.

Saul built an altar to the LORD. This was the first altar that he built to the LORD.

36 Saúl dijo: “Descendamos tras los filisteos de noche y saquemos provecho entre ellos hasta la luz de la mañana. No dejemos a ningún hombre de ellos”. Dijeron: “Haz lo que te parezca bien”. Entonces el sacerdote dijo: “Acerquémonos aquí a Dios”.

Saul said, "Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and take spoil among them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them." They said, "Do whatever seems good to you." Then the priest said, "Let us draw near here to God."

37 Saúl pidió consejo a Dios: “¿Debo bajar tras los filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en manos de Israel?” Pero aquel día no le respondió.

Saul asked counsel of God, "Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?" But he did not answer him that day.

38 Saúl dijo: “Acercaos aquí todos los jefes del pueblo, y sabed y ved en quién ha estado hoy este pecado.

And Saul said, "Come here, all you leaders of the people; and investigate and see how this sin has arisen today.

39 Porque vive Yahvé, que salva a Israel, aunque sea en Jonatán, mi hijo, sin duda morirá.” Pero no hubo un solo hombre de todo el pueblo que le respondiera.

For, as the LORD lives, who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die." But there was not a man among all the people who answered him.

40 Entonces dijo a todo Israel: “Vosotros estáis de un lado, y yo y Jonatán mi hijo estaremos del otro”. El pueblo le dijo a Saúl: “Haz lo que te parezca bien”.

Then he said to all Israel, "You be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side." The people said to Saul, "Do what seems good to you."

41 Por eso Saúl dijo a Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: “Muestra la derecha”. Jonatán y Saúl fueron elegidos, pero el pueblo escapó.

Therefore Saul said, "LORD, God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant this day? If this sin is mine or in Jonathan my son, LORD, God of Israel, give Urim. But if this sin is in your people Israel, give Thummim." And Jonathan and Saul were chosen, but the people were cleared.

42 Saúl dijo: “Echad suertes entre mi hijo y yo”. Jonathan fue seleccionado.

And Saul said, "Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. Whomever the LORD shall indicate to be taken by lot, let him die." And the people said to Saul, "This thing is not to be." And Saul prevailed over the people, and they cast lots between him and Jonathan his son. And Jonathan was selected.

43 Entonces Saúl dijo a Jonatán: “¡Dime qué has hecho!” Jonatán se lo contó y dijo: “Ciertamente probé un poco de miel con la punta de la vara que tenía en la mano, y he de morir”.

Then Saul said to Jonathan, "Tell me what you have done." And Jonathan told him, and said, "I certainly did taste a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand; and look, I must die."

44 Saúl dijo: “Que Dios haga eso y más, porque seguramente morirás, Jonatán”.

And Saul said, "God do the same to me and more also if you are not put to death this day."

45 El pueblo dijo a Saúl: “¿Ha de morir Jonatán, que ha obrado esta gran salvación en Israel? ¡Lejos de eso! Vive Yahvé, que no se le caerá ni un pelo de la cabeza, ¡porque hoy ha trabajado con Dios!” Así que el pueblo rescató a Jonatán, para que no muriera.

The people said to Saul, "Shall he who has worked this great salvation in Israel die today? As the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has worked with God this day." So the people rescued Jonathan, and he did not die.

46 Entonces Saúl subió de seguir a los filisteos, y los filisteos se fueron a su lugar.

Then Saul went up from following the Philistines; and the Philistines went to their own place.

47 Cuando Saúl tomó el reino de Israel, luchó contra todos sus enemigos de todas partes: contra Moab, contra los hijos de Amón, contra Edom, contra los reyes de Soba y contra los filisteos. A dondequiera que se dirigía, los derrotaba.

Now when Saul had taken the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the people of Ammon, and against Edom, and against Beth Rehob, and against the king of Zobah, and against the Philistines; and wherever he turned, he was victorious.

48 Hizo valentía e hirió a los amalecitas, y libró a Israel de las manos de los que lo saqueaban.

And he did valiantly, and struck Amalek, and delivered Israel out of the hand of its plunderers.

49 Los hijos de Saúl fueron Jonatán, Ishvi y Malquisúa, y los nombres de sus dos hijas fueron estos: el nombre de la primogénita, Merab, y el de la menor, Mical.

Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Jishvi, and Malkishua; and the names of his two daughters were these: the name of the firstborn Merob, and the name of the younger Mikal:

50 El nombre de la esposa de Saúl era Ahinoam, hija de Ahimaas. El nombre del capitán de su ejército era Abner, hijo de Ner, tío de Saúl.

and the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the commander of his army was Abiner the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.

51 Cis era el padre de Saúl, y Ner el padre de Abner era hijo de Abiel.

Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.

52 Hubo una severa guerra contra los filisteos durante todos los días de Saúl; y cuando éste veía a algún hombre poderoso o valiente, lo tomaba a su servicio.

There was severe war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any mighty man, or any valiant man, he took him to him.
