1 Reyes 19
1 Ajab le contó a Jezabel todo lo que había hecho Elías y cómo había matado a todos los profetas a espada.
Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.
2 Entonces Jezabel envió un mensajero a Elías, diciéndole: “¡Así me hagan los dioses, y más también, si no hago tu vida como la de uno de ellos para mañana a esta hora!”
Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I don’t make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time!”
3 Al ver esto, se levantó y corrió por su vida, y llegó a Beerseba, que pertenece a Judá, y dejó allí a su siervo.
When he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.
4 Pero él mismo se fue un día de camino al desierto, y llegó y se sentó bajo un enebro. Entonces pidió para sí mismo la muerte, y dijo: “Ya es suficiente. Ahora, oh Yahvé, quita mi vida, pues no soy mejor que mis padres”.
But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree. Then he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough. Now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.”
5 Se acostó y durmió bajo un enebro; y he aquí que un ángel le tocó y le dijo: “¡Levántate y come!”
He lay down and slept under a juniper tree; and behold, an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat!”
6 Miró, y he aquí que había junto a su cabeza una torta cocida sobre las brasas y una jarra de agua. Comió y bebió, y volvió a acostarse.
He looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on the coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank, and lay down again.
7 El ángel de Yahvé volvió a venir por segunda vez, lo tocó y le dijo: “Levántate y come, porque el viaje es demasiado grande para ti.”
The LORD’s angel came again the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.”
8 Se levantó, comió y bebió, y con la fuerza de ese alimento se dirigió durante cuarenta días y cuarenta noches a Horeb, la Montaña de Dios.
He arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, God’s Mountain.
9 Llegó a una cueva de allí, y acampó allí; y he aquí que la palabra de Yahvé vino a él, y le dijo: “¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?”
He came to a cave there, and camped there; and behold, the LORD’s word came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
10 Dijo: “He sentido muchos celos por Yahvé, el Dios de los Ejércitos, porque los hijos de Israel han abandonado tu alianza, han derribado tus altares y han matado a tus profetas a espada. Yo, sólo yo, he quedado; y buscan mi vida para quitármela”.
He said, “I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of Armies; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”
11 Dijo: “Sal y ponte en el monte delante de Yahvé”. Pasó el Señor, y un viento grande y fuerte desgarró los montes y desmenuzó las rocas ante el Señor; pero el Señor no estaba en el viento. Después del viento hubo un terremoto, pero el Señor no estaba en el terremoto.
He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” Behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
12 Después del terremoto pasó un fuego, pero el Señor no estaba en el fuego. Después del fuego, se oyó una voz tranquila y pequeña.
After the earthquake a fire passed; but the LORD was not in the fire. After the fire, there was a still small voice.
13 Al oírla, Elías se envolvió en su manto, salió y se puso a la entrada de la cueva. Se le acercó una voz y le dijo: “¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?”.
When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle, went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. Behold, a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
14 Dijo: “He sentido muchos celos por Yahvé, el Dios de los Ejércitos; porque los hijos de Israel han abandonado tu alianza, han derribado tus altares y han matado a tus profetas a espada. Yo, sólo yo, he quedado; y buscan mi vida para quitármela”.
He said, “I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of Armies; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”
15 El Señor le dijo: “Ve, regresa por tu camino al desierto de Damasco. Cuando llegues, unge a Hazael como rey de Siria.
The LORD said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria.
16 Unge a Jehú, hijo de Nimsí, para que sea rey de Israel; y unge a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, de Abel Meholá, para que sea profeta en tu lugar.
Anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi to be king over Israel; and anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah to be prophet in your place.
17 Al que escape de la espada de Hazael, lo matará Jehú; y al que escape de la espada de Jehú, lo matará Eliseo.
He who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill; and he who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill.
18 Pero he reservado siete mil en Israel, todas las rodillas que no se han inclinado ante Baal, y toda boca que no lo ha besado.”
Yet I reserved seven thousand in Israel, all the knees of which have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth which has not kissed him.”
19 Se fue de allí y encontró a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, que estaba arando con doce yuntas de bueyes delante de él, y él con la duodécima. Elías se acercó a él y le puso su manto.
So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was ploughing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth. Elijah went over to him and put his mantle on him.
20 Eliseo dejó los bueyes y corrió detrás de Elías, diciendo: “Déjame por favor besar a mi padre y a mi madre, y luego te seguiré”. Le dijo: “Vuelve a la carga, porque ¿qué te he hecho?”.
Elisha left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, “Let me please kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” He said to him, “Go back again; for what have I done to you?”
21 Volvió de seguirlo, y tomó la yunta de bueyes, los mató y coció su carne con el equipo de los bueyes, y dio al pueblo; y ellos comieron. Luego se levantó, y fue en pos de Elías, y le sirvió.
He returned from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, killed them, and boiled their meat with the oxen’s equipment, and gave to the people; and they ate. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and served him.
