1 Reyes 17
1 Elías tisbita, que era uno de los colonos de Galaad, dijo a Ajab: “Vive Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, ante quien estoy, que no habrá rocío ni lluvia estos años, sino según mi palabra.”
And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the sojourners of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As Jehovah, the God of Israel, liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
2 Entonces le llegó la palabra de Yahvé, diciendo:
And the word of Jehovah came unto him, saying,
3 “Vete de aquí, vuélvete hacia el este, y escóndete junto al arroyo de Querit, que está frente al Jordán.
Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.
4 Beberás del arroyo. He ordenado a los cuervos que te den de comer allí”.
And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
5 Fue, pues, y cumplió la palabra de Yahvé, pues se fue a vivir junto al arroyo de Querit que está frente al Jordán.
So he went and did according unto the word of Jehovah; for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.
6 Los cuervos le llevaban pan y carne por la mañana, y pan y carne por la tarde; y él bebía del arroyo.
And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
7 Al cabo de un tiempo, el arroyo se secó, porque no llovía en la tierra.
And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.
8 La palabra de Yahvé vino a él, diciendo:
And the word of Jehovah came unto him, saying,
9 “Levántate, ve a Sarepta, que pertenece a Sidón, y quédate allí. He aquí que he ordenado a una viuda de allí que te sostenga”.
Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Sidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain thee.
10 Se levantó, pues, y fue a Sarepta; y cuando llegó a la puerta de la ciudad, he aquí que una viuda estaba allí recogiendo palos. La llamó y le dijo: “Por favor, tráeme un poco de agua en una jarra, para que pueda beber”.
So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 Cuando iba a cogerlo, la llamó y le dijo: “Por favor, tráeme un bocado de pan en la mano”.
And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thy hand.
12 Ella dijo: “Vive Yahvé, tu Dios, que no tengo nada cocido, sino sólo un puñado de harina en una vasija y un poco de aceite en una jarra. Estoy juntando dos palos, para entrar a hornearlo para mí y para mi hijo, para que lo comamos y muramos.”
And she said, As Jehovah thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but a handful of meal in the jar, and a little oil in the cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 Elías le dijo: “No tengas miedo. Ve y haz lo que has dicho; pero hazme primero una pequeña torta de ella, y tráemela, y después hazla para ti y para tu hijo.
And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said; but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it forth unto me, and afterward make for thee and for thy son.
14 Porque Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, dice: ‘La vasija de harina no se agotará, y la vasija de aceite no se agotará, hasta el día en que Yahvé envíe la lluvia a la tierra’.”
For thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, The jar of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that Jehovah sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 Ella fue e hizo lo que dijo Elías; y ella, él y su familia comieron durante muchos días.
And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat [many] days.
16 La vasija de harina no se agotó y la vasija de aceite no falló, según la palabra de Yahvé, que habló por medio de Elías.
The jar of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of Jehovah, which he spake by Elijah.
17 Después de estas cosas, el hijo de la mujer, la dueña de la casa, enfermó; y su enfermedad era tan grave que no le quedaba aliento.
And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
18 Ella le dijo a Elías: “¿Qué tengo que hacer contigo, hombre de Dios? Has venido a mí para traer a la memoria mi pecado, y para matar a mi hijo”.
And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? thou art come unto me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son!
19 Le dijo: “Dame a tu hijo”. Lo sacó de su seno, lo subió a la habitación donde se hospedaba y lo puso en su propia cama.
And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the chamber, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
20 Clamó a Yahvé y dijo: “Yahvé, mi Dios, ¿también has traído el mal a la viuda con la que me hospedo, matando a su hijo?”
And he cried unto Jehovah, and said, O Jehovah my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
21 Se tendió sobre el niño tres veces y clamó a Yahvé diciendo: “Yahvé, Dios mío, por favor, haz que el alma de este niño vuelva a entrar en él.”
And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto Jehovah, and said, O Jehovah my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.
22 El Señor escuchó la voz de Elías, y el alma del niño volvió a entrar en él, y revivió.
And Jehovah hearkened unto the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23 Elías tomó al niño y lo bajó de la habitación a la casa, y lo entregó a su madre; y Elías dijo: “He aquí que tu hijo vive.”
And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother; and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24 La mujer dijo a Elías: “Ahora sé que eres un hombre de Dios y que la palabra de Yahvé en tu boca es verdad.”
And the woman said to Elijah, Now I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of Jehovah in thy mouth is truth.
