Salmos 78
1 Un salmo (masquil) de Asaf. Escucha, pueblo mío, lo que tengo para enseñarte. Escucha lo que vengo a decirte.
An Instructive Psalm. Asaph’s. Give ear, O my people, to mine instruction, Bend your ear to the sayings of my mouth;
2 Te enseñaré dichos sabios; y te explicaré misterios del pasado
I will open, in a parable, my mouth, I will pour forth enigmas out of antiquity; —
3 que he escuchado antes y sobre los cuales he reflexionado. Son historias de nuestros antepasados que han sido transmitidas por generaciones.
Which we have heard, and come to know, And, our fathers, have recounted to us;
4 No las ocultaremos de nuestros hijos. Le contaremos a la siguiente generación sobre las maravillas que Dios ha hecho; sobre su poder y grandes obras.
We will not withhold [them] from their children, To a later generation, recounting the praises of Yahweh, Even his might and his wonders which he wrought;
5 Él entregó sus leyes a los descendientes de Jacob; dio sus instrucciones al pueblo de Israel. Él ordenó a nuestros padres para que las enseñaran a sus hijos,
When he set up a testimony in Jacob, And, a law, appointed in Israel, —Which he commanded our fathers, That they might make them known to their children;
6 a fin de que la siguiente generación—los que aún no habían nacido—entendieran y crecieran para enseñar a sus hijos.
To the end, A later generation, might come to know, Children who should be born, Who should arise, and recount [them] to their children;
7 De esta forma debían mantener su fe en Dios y no olvidar lo que Dios ha hecho, así como seguir sus mandamientos.
That they might set, in Elohim, their confidence, —And not forget the doings of El, But, his commandments, might observe;
8 Para que no fueran como sus antepasados, una generación terca y rebelde que carecía de fe y fidelidad.
And not become, like their fathers, a generation stubborn and rebellious, —A generation that fixed not their heart, Neither was their spirit, faithful with GOD.
9 Los soldados de Efraín, aunque estaban armados con arcos, huyeron el día de la batalla.
The sons of Ephraim—armed bowmen, Turned in the day of battle;
10 No cumplieron el pacto de Dios, y se negaron a seguir sus leyes.
They kept not the covenant of God, And, in his law, refused to walk;
11 Ignoraronl lo que Dios había hecho, y las maravillas que les había mostrado antes:
And forgat His doings, And his wonders which he had showed them:
12 los milagros que había hecho por sus antepasados en Zoán, en Egipto.
In presence of their fathers, wrought he, wondrously, —In the land of Egypt—the field of Zoan:
13 Él dividió el mar en dos y los condujo a través de él, manteniendo las aguas como muros a cada lado.
He clave the sea, and caused them to pass through, And reared up the waters like a mound;
14 Él los guiaba con una nube en el día, y de noche con una nube de fuego.
And led them, by a cloud, in the daytime, And all the night, by a light of fire;
15 Partió las rocas en el desierto para darle agua abundante a su pueblo. Aguas profundas como el océano.
He used to cleave rocks in the desert, And let them drink as out of mighty deeps;
16 ¡Él hizo que de las piedras fluyera agua como un río!
And he brought forth streams out of the cliff, And caused waters to flow down, like rivers.
17 Pero ellos siguieron pecando contra él, rebelándose contra el Altísimo mientras andaban por el desierto.
But again, once more sinned they against him, Resisting the Most High in a land of drought:
18 Deliberadamente provocaban a Dios, exigiendo las comidas que tanto anhelaban.
They put GOD to the proof in their heart, By asking food to their mind:
19 Insultaron a Dios diciendo: “¿Puede Dios darnos comida aquí en el desierto?
Yea they spake against Elohim, —They said, Can GOD prepare a table in the desert?
20 Si bien puede golpear una roca y hacer que de ellas fluya agua como corrientes de río, ¿puede acaso darnos pan? ¿Puede darnos carne?”
Lo! he hath smitten a rock, And waters, have gushed out, Yea, torrents, have rushed along, —Food also, can he give? Or provide flesh for his people?
21 Cuando el Señor oyó esto, se enojó mucho, y el fuego de su enojo se encendió contra los descendientes de Jacob, el pueblo de Israel,
Therefore, Yahweh hearkened, and became wroth, —And, a fire, was kindled against Jacob, Moreover also, anger, mounted against Israel;
22 porque ellos no creyeron en Dios y no confiaron en que podía cuidar de ellos.
Because, They believed not in God, Nor trusted in his salvation;
23 Tanto fue su enojo que ordenó a los cielos se abrieran,
Though he had commanded the skies above, And, the doors of the heavens, had opened;
24 e hizo llover maná del cielo, dándoles así pan celestial.
And had rained on them manna to eat, And, the corn of the heavens, had given to them:
25 Los seres humanos comieron del pan que comen los ángeles. Y les dio más que suficiente.
The food of the mighty, each one did eat, Nourishment, sent he them to the full;
26 Luego hizo soplar un viento desde el Este, y por su poder también hizo soplar el viento que viene del Sur.
He let loose an east wind in the heavens, Then guided he, in his might, a south wind;
27 Hizo llover carne como tan abundante como el polvo. Las aves eran muchas, como la arena de la playa.
And rained upon them flesh as the dust, And, like the sand of the seas, birds of wing;
28 E hizo caer las aves en medio del campamento, y alrededor de sus carpas.
And let them fall in the midst of their camp, —Round about their habitations.
29 Y comieron hasta que se saciaron. Les dio la comida que tanto deseaban.
So they did eat and were abundantly filled, When, what they longed for, he had brought them: —
30 Pero antes de saciar su apetito, mientras aún masticaban la carne,
They had not turned away from what they had longed for, Yet was their food in their mouth,
31 Dios se enojó con ellos e hizo morir a los hombres más fuertes, derribándolos en plena juventud.
When, the anger of God, mounted against them, And he slew of their vigorous youths, And, the choice young men of Israel, caused he to bow down in death.
32 A pesar de esto, siguieron pecando. A pesar de los milagros, se negaban a creer en él.
For all this, sinned they still, And believed not in his wonders;
33 Así que apagó sus vidas vanas, e hizo que terminaran sus años con horror.
So he ended, in a breath, their days, And their years, in a sudden terror!
34 Cuando Dios comenzó a matarlos, volvieron con oraciones a él, arrepentidos de su pecado.
If he slew [of] them, then they sought him, Yea they turned, and did earnestly seek GOD;
35 Se acordaron de que Dios era su roca, que el Dios Altísimo era su salvador.
And remembered that, Elohim, was their rock, Yea, EL Most High, their Redeemer:
36 Entonces lo comenzaron adular de labios para afuera, pero solo mentían.
So they spake him fair with their mouth, And, with their tongue, did promise him falsely;
37 En sus corazones no eran sinceros y no guardaron el pacto que tenían con él.
But, their heart, was not fixed with him, Nor were they trusty in his covenant:
38 Pero por su compasión él perdonó su pecado y no los destruyó. Muchas veces contuvo su enojo y no desató toda su furia.
Yet, he, full of compassion, would put a propitiatory-covering over iniquity, and not destroy, —Yea, many a time, turned he back his anger, And would not stir up all his wrath.
39 Dios recordó que eran simples mortales, y que eran como el viento que se va y no regresa.
So then he remembered, That, Flesh, they were, A Wind departing, that returneth not.
40 Cuántas veces se rebelaron contra él en el desierto, causándole tristeza.
How often they, Resisted him in the desert, Vexed him, in the waste:
41 Una y otra vez provocaron a Dios, causando dolor al Santo de Israel.
Yea they again put GOD to the test, And, to the Holy One of Israel, caused they sorrow:
42 Olvidaron la fuerza con la que él los rescató de sus opresores,
They remembered not his hand—The day, When he ransomed them from the adversary;
43 haciendo milagros en Egipto, y maravillas en la llanura de Zoán.
When he set, in Egypt, his signs, And his wonders, in the plain of Zoan;
44 Allí convirtió sus ríos y fuentes de agua en sangre, de modo que nadie podía beber de ellos.
When he turned, into blood, their Nile-streams, And, their own rivers, could they not drink;
45 Envió moscas para destruirlos, y ranas para que los arruinaran.
He sent among them, The gad-fly, and it devoured them, And the frog, and it despoiled them;
46 Dio sus cultivos a las langostas, y todo el fruto de su trabajo fue devorado por ellas.
When he gave to the corn-locust their produce, And their toil, to the swarming locust;
47 Destruyó sus viñedos con granizo, y sus higueras con aguanieve.
He killed, with hail, their vine, And their sycomores, with frost:
48 Dejó su ganado a merced del granizo y sus animales fueron destruidos por relámpagos.
When he gave up, to hail-storms, their beasts, And their cattle, to pestilent fevers;
49 Envió sobre ellos su ira feroz: Rabia, hostilidad y agonía. Por ello envió un grupo de ángeles destructores.
He sent among them the heat of his anger, Wrath and indignation and distress, —A mission of messengers of misfortune:
50 Desató su ira sobre ellos y no los salvó de la muerte, sino que los dejó morir por causa de esta plaga.
He leveled a path for his anger, Withheld not, from death, their soul, But, their life—to the pestilence, he delivered:
51 Entonces mató al hijo mayor de cada familia en Egipto, todos los que habían sido concebidos como primogénitos en las carpas de Ham.
So he smote, Every first-born in Egypt, The beginning of their strength, in the tents of Ham;
52 Pero a su pueblo guió como ovejas, y los condujo como un rebaño en el desierto.
And he set forth, like sheep, his people, And guided them, like a flock in the desert;
53 Los llevó a un lugar seguro, y no tuvieron nada que temer. Ahogó a sus enemigos en el mar.
Yea he led them securely, and they dreaded not, And, their enemies, the sea did cover.
54 Los llevó hasta la frontera de su tierra santa, a esta tierra montañosa que había conquistado para ellos.
Then brought he them within his own holy bounds, The mountain-range, which his right hand made his own:
55 A las naciones infieles las expulsaba a su paso. Dividió la tierra para que la hicieran suya. Estableció las tribus de Israel en sus carpas.
So he drave out, before them, [whole] nations, And allotted them, by line, an inheritance, And caused to dwell, in their own homes, the tribes of Israel.
56 Pero ellos siguieron provocando al Altísimo, siendo rebeldes contra él. No siguieron sus enseñanzas.
But they tested and resisted God Most High, And, his testimonies, did not observe;
57 Así como sus antiguos padres se alejaron de Dios y fueron infieles a él, tan torcidos como un arco doblado que no sirve.
But drew back and dealt treacherously, like their fathers, They turned aside, like deceitful bowmen;
58 Provocaron su ira con sus altares paganos y despertaron su celo con sus ídolos.
And provoked him to anger with their high places, And, with their images, used to move him to jealousy.
59 Cuando Dios escuchó que adoraban a otros dioses se enfureció y rechazó por completo a Israel.
God heard and was wroth, And greatly abhorred Israel;
60 Entonces abandonó su lugar en Siloé, el Tabernáculo en el que vivía en medio del pueblo.
So he gave up the habitation of Shiloh, The tent he had set up among Men;
61 Además entregó el arca de su poder, dejando que manos enemigas la tomaran.
Yea he gave up, into captivity, his strength, And his beauty into the hand of an adversary;
62 Entregó a su pueblo y permitió que lo masacraran a espada, pues estaba furioso con su pueblo escogido.
And delivered up, to the sword, his people, And, with his own inheritance, was he wroth;
63 Sus hombres más jóvenes fueron quemados, y las mujeres jóvenes no lograron cantar sus cánticos de bodas.
His young men, were devoured by fire, And, his virgins, were not praised in song;
64 Sus sacerdotes fueron asesinados con espadas y sus viudas no pudieron hacer duelo por ellos.
His priests, by the sword, did fall, And, his widows, were not able to bewail.
65 Entonces el Señor reaccionó como si hubiera despertado del sueño, como un guerrero que se despierta después de embriagarse con vino.
Then awoke, as one that had slept, Adonay, As a warrior exulting with wine!
66 Venció a sus enemigos, atacándolos por la espalda y exponiéndolos a vergüenza eterna.
So he smote his adversaries in the rear, Reproach age-abiding, laid he upon them.
67 Rechazó a los descendientes de José y no elegió más a la tribu de Eraín.
Howbeit he rejected the tent of Joseph, And, the tribe of Ephraim, did not choose:
68 En su lugar eligió a la tribu de Judá y al Monte de Sión, al cual amaba.
But made choice of the tribe of Judah, The mountain of Zion, which he loved;
69 Allí construyó su santuario, tan alto como el cielo, y lo puso allí en esa tierra para que existiera eternamente.
And built, like the heights, his sanctuary, Like the earth, he founded it to times age-abiding.
70 Eligió a su siervo David, tomándolo de entre los rediles de ovejas,
And made choice of David his servant, And took him from among the folds of the sheep:
71 y lo llevó de cuidar ovejas y corderos, a ser un pastor de los descendientes de Jacob, el pueblo especial de Dios: Israel.
From after the sucking ewes, he brought him in, —To be shepherd to Jacob his people, And to Israel, his inheritance.
72 Como un pastor cuidó de ellos con sincera devoción, y los condujo con manos hábiles.
So he did shepherd them, according to the singleness of his heart, And, with the discernment of his hands, used he to guide them.
