Salmos 49
1 Para el director del coro. Un salmo de los hijos de Coré. ¡Escuchen esto! ¡Presten atención, personas del mundo,
Alamoth. To the chief music-maker. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm. Give attention to this, all you peoples; let your ears be open, all you who are living in the world.
2 sean de alta o baja sociedad, sean ricos o pobres!
High and low together, the poor, and those who have wealth.
3 Porque lo que diré son palabras sabias, y mi pensamiento es perspicaz.
From my mouth will come words of wisdom; and in the thoughts of my heart will be knowledge.
4 Prestaré atención a los proverbios; responderé las preguntas difíciles al son del arpa.
I will put my teaching into a story; I will make my dark sayings clear with music.
5 ¿Por qué debería temer cuando los problemas vienen o cuando mis enemigos me rodeen?
What cause have I for fear in the days of evil, when the evil-doing of those who are working for my downfall is round about me?
6 Ellos confían en su riqueza; alardean de sus posesiones,
Even of those whose faith is in their wealth, and whose hearts are lifted up because of their stores.
7 pero nadie puede pagar por rescatar a otro de la muerte; nadie puede pagarle un rescate a Dios.
Truly, no man may get back his soul for a price, or give to God the payment for himself;
8 La redención va más allá de un precio; nadie nunca podrá pagar lo suficiente
(Because it takes a great price to keep his soul from death, and man is not able to give it.)
9 como para vivir para siempre y no enfrentar la tumba.
So that he might have eternal life, and never see the underworld.
10 Todos saben que el sabio morirá, pero aquellos que son tontos y tercos también, dejando todo lo que tienen a la siguiente generación.
For he sees that wise men come to their end, and foolish persons of low behaviour come to destruction together, letting their wealth go to others.
11 Ellos creen que sus hogares durarán para siempre, que el lugar donde viven se mantendrá por todas las generaciones.
The place of the dead is their house for ever, and their resting-place through all generations; those who come after them give their names to their lands.
12 Pero los seres humanos, ni con todo su honor entenderán. Ellos morirán, igual que los animales.
But man, like the animals, does not go on for ever; he comes to an end like the beasts.
13 Este es el camino de los necios, sin embargo, los que vienen después de ellos piensan que van a ser más inteligentes (Selah)
This is the way of the foolish; their silver is for those who come after them, and their children get the pleasure of their gold. (Selah)
14 Como ovejas están destinados a la tumba. La muerte será su pastor. Pero los que viven con rectitud gobernarán sobre ellos en la mañana gloriosa. Sus cuerpos se desintegrarán en la tumba, lejos de sus hogares. (Sheol h7585)
Death will give them their food like sheep; the underworld is their fate and they will go down into it; their flesh is food for worms; their form is wasted away; the underworld is their resting-place for ever. (Sheol h7585)
15 Pero seguramente Dios me rescatará del poder de la muerte; él me traerá de vuelta. (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
But God will get back my soul; for he will take me from the power of death. (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
16 No te molestes cuando las personas se hagan ricas, y llenen sus casas con posesiones.
Have no fear when wealth comes to a man, and the glory of his house is increased;
17 Porque no se llevarán nada con ellos cuando mueran; sus riquezas no irán con ellos a la tumba.
For at his death, he will take nothing away; his glory will not go down after him.
18 Ellos se felicitan entre ellos por sus posesiones, las personas siempre te alabarán cuando hagas las cosas bien,
Though he might have pride in his soul in his life-time, and men will give you praise if you do well for yourself,
19 pero su destino es el mismo que el de sus antepasados: nunca más verán la luz del día.
He will go to the generation of his fathers; he will not see the light again.
20 Los seres humanos, nunca entenderán, debido a toda su fama, y morirán, tal como los animales.
Man, like the animals, does not go on for ever; he comes to an end like the beasts.
