Proverbios 1
1 Los proverbios de Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel.
Proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:
2 Estos proverbios son para alcanzar sabiduría e instrucción, y para reconocer los dichos que proporcionan conocimiento.
For knowing wisdom and instruction, For understanding sayings of intelligence,
3 Los proverbios educan en razón, en vivir bien, en el sano juicio, y en actuar con justicia.
For receiving the instruction of wisdom, Righteousness, judgment, and uprightness,
4 Dan discernimiento a los inmaduros, así como conocimiento y discreción a los jóvenes.
For giving to simple ones—prudence, To a youth—knowledge and discretion.
5 Las personas sabias escucharán y aprenderán aún más, y los que tienen buen juicio aprenderán a guiar a otros,
(The wise hear and increase learning, And the intelligent obtain counsels.)
6 entendiendo los proverbios y los enigmas, así como los dichos y preguntas de los sabios.

7 El verdadero conocimiento comienza con la honra al Señor, pero los insensatos se burlan de la sabiduría y del buen consejo.
Fear of YHWH [is the] beginning of knowledge, Fools have despised wisdom and instruction!
8 Hijo mío, presta atención a la instrucción de tu padre, y no rechaces la enseñanza de tu madre.
Hear, my son, the instruction of your father, And do not leave the law of your mother,
9 Son como una corona de gracia para adornar tu cabeza, y como dijes para tu cuello.
For they [are] a graceful wreath to your head, And chains to your neck.
10 Hijo mío, si alguna persona malvada quisiera tentarte, no cedas.
My son, if sinners entice you, do not be willing.
11 Podrán decirte: “Ven con nosotros. Escondámonos y alistémonos para matar a cierta persona. ¡Hagámosle una emboscada y vamos a divertirnos!
If they say, “Come with us, we lay wait for blood, We watch secretly for the innocent without cause,
We swallow them as Sheol—alive, And whole—as those going down [to] the pit, (Sheol h7585)
13 Así podremos tomar sus pertenencias de valor, y llenaremos nuestros hogares con lo que habremos robado!
We find every precious substance, We fill our houses [with] spoil,
14 ¡Ven con nosotros y comprartiremos las ganancias!”
You cast your lot among us, One purse is—to all of us.”
15 Hijo mío, no sigas sus caminos. No vayas en la misma dirección con ellos.
My son! Do not go in the way with them, Withhold your foot from their path,
16 Porque ellos se corren para hacer el mal, y se apresuran en causar violencia y cometer asesinatos.
For their feet run to evil, And they hurry to shed blood.
17 De nada sirve ponerle una trampa a las aves si ellas la pueden ver.
Surely in vain is the net spread out before the eyes of any bird.
18 Sin embargo, estas personas malvadas se ocultan y están listas para matar a otros, pero ellos mismos son las víctimas. ¡Sus trampas son para ellos mismos!
And they lay wait for their own blood, They watch secretly for their own lives.
19 Esto es lo que te ocurrirá, si te enriqueces cometiendo crímenes: ¡Morirás!
So [are] the paths of every gainer of dishonest gain, It takes the life of its owners.
20 La sabiduría grita por las calles. Ella clama en las plazas.
Wisdom cries aloud in an out-place, She gives forth her voice in broad places,
21 Grita en las esquinas llenas, y explica su mensaje en las puertas de la ciudad:
She calls at the head of the multitudes, In the openings of the gates, In the city she says her sayings:
22 “¿Hasta cuándo amarán la insensatez, ustedes insensatos? ¿Hasta cuando, ustedes burladores, disfrutarán de sus burlas? ¿Hasta cuándo los tontos odiarán el conocimiento?
“Until when, you simple, do you love simplicity? And have scorners desired their scorning? And do fools hate knowledge?
23 Presten atención a mis advertencias, y yo derramaré sobre ustedes mis pensamientos más profundos. Les explicaré todo lo que sé.
Turn back at my reproof, behold, I pour forth my spirit to you, I make known my words with you.
24 “Porque yo los he llamado pero ustedes se han negado a escuchar. Les extendí mi mano, pero no les importó.
Because I have called, and you refuse, I stretched out my hand, and none is attending,
25 Ignoraron mi palabra, y no prestaron atención a mis advertencias.
And you slight all my counsel, And you have not desired my reproof.
26 “Por eso me reiré de ustedes cuando estén en problemas. Me burlaré cuando el pánico se apodere de ustedes.
I also laugh in your calamity, I deride when your fear comes,
27 Cuando el pánico caiga sobre ustedes como una tormenta, y la angustia los golpee como un torbellino. Cuando sobre ustedes venga el dolor y lamento,
When your fear comes as destruction, And your calamity comes as a windstorm, When adversity and distress come on you.
28 clamarán a mi pidiendo ayuda, pero yo no responderé. Me buscarán por todas partes, pero no me encontrarán.
Then they call me, and I do not answer, They seek me earnestly, and do not find me.
29 ¿Por qué? Porque aborrecieron el conocimiento, y no eligieron respetar al Señor.
Because that they have hated knowledge, And have not chosen the fear of YHWH.
30 Ellos no están dispuestos a aceptar mi consejo, y aborrecen mis advertencias.
They have not consented to my counsel, They have despised all my reproof,
31 “Por lo tanto, tendrán que comer el fruto de sus propias decisiones, y se saciarán de sus propios planes retorcidos.
And they eat of the fruit of their way, And they are filled from their own counsels.
32 Los necios mueren por su propia rebeldía. Los tontos son destruidos por su descuido.
For the turning of the simple slays them, And the security of the foolish destroys them.
33 Pero todos los que me oyen estarán seguros, y vivirán sin preocuparse de problema alguno”.
And whoever is listening to me dwells confidently, And [is] quiet from fear of evil!”
