Proverbios 4
1 Escuchen, hijos, la instrucción de un padre. Estén atentos al sano juicio,
Hear, ye sons, the correction of a father, and attend, that ye may know understanding.
2 porque lo que les diré es consejo fiel. No rechacen mis enseñanzas.
For, good teaching, have I given you, mine instruction, do not ye forsake.
3 Porque yo también fui hijo de mi padre, un joven tierno, e hijo único de mi madre
For, a son, became I to my father, tender and most precious in the sight of my mother.
4 y él fue quien me instruyó. Me dijo: “Presta atención a las palabras que te digo y no las olvides. Haz lo que te digo y vivirás.
So he taught me, and said to me—Let thy heart, lay hold of my words, Keep my commandments and live!
5 Obtén sabiduría, busca el sano juicio. No olvides mis palabras, ni las desprecies.
Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding, Do not forget, neither decline thou from the sayings of my mouth.
6 “No abandones la sabiduría porque ella te mantendrá a salvo. Ama la sabiduría y ella te protegerá.
Do not forsake her, and she will guard thee, —love her and she will keep thee.
7 Lo primero que debes hacer para ser sabio es obtener sabiduría. Junto a todo lo que obtengas, procura obtener inteligencia.
The principal thing, is wisdom, acquire thou wisdom, With all thine acquisition, acquire thou understanding.
8 Atesora la sabiduría y ella te alabará. Abrázala y ella te honrará.
Exalt her, and she will set thee on high, she will bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her:
9 Colocará sobre tu cabeza una corona de gracia, y te ofrecerá una corona de gloria”.
She will give for thy head, a wreath of beauty, A crown of adorning, will she bestow upon thee.
10 Escucha, hijo mío. Si aceptas lo que te digo, vivirás larga vida.
Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and they will multiply to thee the years of life.
11 Te he explicado el camino de la sabiduría. Te he guiado por los caminos de rectitud.
In the way of wisdom, have I taught thee, I have guided thee in tracks of uprightness.
12 No habrá obstáculos cuando camines, ni tropezarás al correr.
When thou walkest, thy step shall not be hemmed in, and, if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13 Aférrate a estas instrucciones, y no las dejes ir. Protégelas, porque son el cimiento de la vida.
Take fast hold of correction, let her not go, —keep her, for, she, is thy life.
14 No andes por el camino de los malvados, ni sigas el ejemplo de los que hacen el mal.
Upon the path of the lawless, do not thou enter, and do not advance in the way of the wicked:
15 Evítalos por completo y no vayas por allí. Da la vuelta y sigue tu camino.
Avoid it, do not pass thereon—turn from it, and depart.
16 Los malvados no descansan hasta haber cometido maldad. No pueden dormir sin haber engañado a alguna persona.
For they sleep not, unless they can do mischief, —They rob themselves of their sleep, if they cannot cause someone to stumble,
17 Porque comen del pan de la maldad y beben del vino de la violencia.
For they consume bread gotten by lawlessness, and, wine obtained by violence, they drink.
18 La vida de los que hacen el bien es como la luz de la aurora, que va en aumento hasta que su luz llega a plenitud del día.
But, the path of the righteous, is as the light of dawn, —going on and brightening, unto meridian day.
19 Pero la vida de los malvados es como la total oscuridad, en la que no pueden ver con qué tropiezan.
The way of the lawless, is like darkness, they know not, at what they stumble.
20 Hijo mío, presta atención a lo que te digo y escucha mis palabras.
My son, to my words, attend, to my sayings, incline thou thine ear;
21 No las pierdas de vista y reflexiona sobre ellas,
Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thy heart;
22 porque son vida para quien las encuentra, y traen sanidad a todo el cuerpo.
For, life, they are, to them who find them, —and, to every part of one’s flesh, they bring healing.
23 Por encima de todas las cosas, protege tu mente, pues todo en la vida procede de ella.
Above all that must be guarded, keep thou thy heart, for, out of it, are the issues of life.
24 Nunca mientas, ni hables con deshonestidad.
Remove from thee, perverseness of mouth, and, craftiness of lips, put far from thee.
25 Enfócate en lo que está delante de ti, mira lo que tienes adelante.
Let, thine eyes, right onward, look, —and, thine eyelashes, point straight before thee.
26 Pon tu atención en el camino que te has propuesto, y estarás seguro donde vayas.
Make level the track of thy foot, that, all thy ways, may be directed aright:
27 No te apartes ni a la derecha, ni a la izquierda, y aléjate del mal.
Decline not, to the right hand or to the left, —Turn away thy foot from wickedness.
