Proverbios 25
1 Aquí hay más proverbios de Salomón, recopilados por los escribas de Ezequías, rey de Judá.
These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, collected.
2 La grandeza de Dios está en las cosas ocultas, mientras que la grandeza de los reyes está en revelar lo desconocido.
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; But it is the glory of kings to search out a matter.
3 Así como la altura de los cielos y la profundidad de la tierra, el pensamiento de un rey no se puede conocer.
As the heavens for their height, And as the earth for its depth, So is the heart of kings unsearchable!
4 Quita la escoria de la plata y el platero tendrá plata pura para hacer su trabajo.
Take away the dross from the silver, And there will come forth a vessel for the founder;
5 Quita al malvado de la presencia del rey, y el rey gobernará confiado y con justicia.
Take away the wicked man from the presence of the king, And his throne will be established by righteousness.
6 No trates de parecer grande delante del rey, y no finjas para estar entre la gente importante.
Put not thyself forth in the presence of the king, Nor set thyself in the place of the great;
7 Porque es mejor que te digan: “Ven aquí arriba”, que ser humillado delante de un noble. Aunque hayas visto algo con tus propios ojos,
For better is it that one should say to thee, “Come up hither!” Than that he should put thee in a lower place, In the presence of the prince whom thine eyes behold.
8 no corras a tomar acciones legales, porque ¿qué harás al final cuando tu vecino demuestre que estás equivocado y te humille?
Go not forth hastily to engage in a suit, Lest thou know not what to do in the end of it, When thine adversary hath put thee to shame.
9 Debate el caso primero con tu vecino, y no traiciones el secreto que otra persona te ha confiado,
Maintain thy cause with thine adversary, But reveal not another's secret;
10 de lo contrario el que escuche te avergonzará y no podrás recuperarte de tu mala reputación.
Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, And thy infamy depart not from thee.
11 El consejo impartido en el momento correcto es como manzanas de oro con baño de plata.
A word spoken in season Is like apples of gold in figured-work of silver.
12 La crítica constructiva de los sabios a quien escucha el consejo, es como un anillo de oro y un collar de oro fino.
As a ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, So is a wise reprover to an attentive ear.
13 El mensajero fiel es un fresco para su maestro, como la nieve fresca en un día caluroso de siega.
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, So is a faithful messenger to them that send him; For he refresheth the spirit of his masters.
14 Quien se jacta de un regalo que nunca entrega, es como las nubes y el viento sin lluvia.
As clouds and wind without rain, So is the man that boasteth falsely of giving.
15 Si eres paciente, podrás persuadir a tu superior, y las palabras suaves pueden derribar la oposición.
By long forbearing is a prince appeased; And a soft tongue breaketh bones.
16 Si hallas dinero, come lo necesario; porque si comes demasiado, te enfermarás.
Hast thou found honey? eat what is sufficient for thee, Lest thou be surfeited with it, and vomit it up.
17 No visites la casa de tu vecino con mucha frecuencia, o se cansarán y te aborrecerán.
Let thy foot be seldom in the house of thy friend, Lest he be surfeited with thee and hate thee.
18 Mentir en la corte contra un amigo es como atacarlo con una maza, con una espada o con una lanza.
A battle-hammer, and a sword, and a sharp arrow, Is the man who beareth false witness against his neighbor.
19 Confiar en las personas poco fiables en momentos de dificultad es como comer con un diente partido, o caminar con un pie herido.
As a broken tooth, and a wavering foot, So is trust in an unfaithful man in time of trouble.
20 Cantar canciones alegres a quien tiene el corazón quebrantado, es como quitarte el abrigo en un día de frio, o poner vinagre en una herida abierta.
As he that taketh off a garment on a cold day, As vinegar upon nitre, So is he that singeth songs to a heavy heart.
21 Si tu enemigo tiene hambre, dale de comer; si tiene sed, dale de beber.
If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he be thirsty, give him water to drink;
22 Esto hará que se avergüence como si tuviera carbones encendidos sobre su cabeza, y el Señor te recompensara.
For thou wilt heap coals of fire upon his head, And the LORD will reward thee.
23 Así como el viento del norte trae la lluvia, las personas calumniadoras hacen enojar.
As the north wind bringeth forth rain, So a backbiting tongue maketh an angry countenance.
24 Mejor es vivir en un rincón de la azotea, que compartir toda la casa con una mujer conflictiva.
Better is it to dwell in a corner of the housetop, Than with a quarrelsome woman in a large house.
25 Las buenas noticias que vienen de un país lejano son como agua fresca para un viajero cansado.
As cold water to the thirsty, So is good news from a far country.
26 Los justos que ceden ante los malvados son como una fuente llena de barro, o un pozo contaminado.
As a troubled fountain, and as a corrupted spring, So is a righteous man falling before the wicked.
27 No es bueno comer mucha miel, tampoco desear mucha alabanza.
To eat much honey is not good; So the search of high things is weariness.
28 Una persona sin dominio propio es como una ciudad expuesta, cuyos muros están agrietados.
As a city broken through and without a wall, So is he that hath no rule over his spirit.
