Proverbios 22
1 Tener una buena reputación es mejor que tener mucho dinero. El respeto es mejor que la plata y que el oro.
A good name is to be chosen aboue great riches, and louing fauour is aboue siluer and aboue golde.
2 Los ricos y los pobres tienen algo en común: el Señor es su creador.
The rich and poore meete together: the Lord is the maker of them all.
3 Si eres prudente, verás venir el peligro y te apartarás; pero los necios siguen sin cuidado y sufren las consecuencias.
A prudent man seeth the plague, and hideth himselfe: but the foolish goe on still, and are punished.
4 Si eres humilde y respetas al Señor, tu recompense será la riqueza, el honor y la vida.
The rewarde of humilitie, and the feare of God is riches, and glory, and life.
5 Solo hay espinas y trampas en el camino de los corruptos. Los que estiman sus vidas se mantendrán lejos de ellos.
Thornes and snares are in the way of the frowarde: but he that regardeth his soule, will depart farre from them.
6 Enseña a los niños el modo correcto de vivir, y cuando crezcan, seguirán viviendo en rectitud.
Teache a childe in the trade of his way, and when he is olde, he shall not depart from it.
7 El rico gobierna al pobre, y los que piden dinero prestado son esclavos de los prestamistas.
The rich ruleth the poore, and the borower is seruant to the man that lendeth.
8 Los que siembran injusticia, cosecharán desastre. Y los golpes que dan a otros, cesarán.
He that soweth iniquitie, shall reape affliction, and the rodde of his anger shall faile.
9 Si eres generoso, serás bendecido por compartir tu comida con los necesitados.
He that hath a good eye, he shalbe blessed: for he giueth of his bread vnto the poore.
10 Deshazte de los burlones y acabarás con el conflicto. Entonces no habrá discusiones ni insultos.
Cast out the scorner, and strife shall go out: so contention and reproche shall cease.
11 Todo el que estima la sinceridad y habla con cortesía, tendrá al rey como amigo.
Hee that loueth purenesse of heart for the grace of his lippes, the King shalbe his friend.
12 El Señor cuida del conocimiento, pero se opone a las palabras de los mentirosos.
The eyes of the Lord preserue knowledge: but hee ouerthroweth the wordes of the transgressour.
13 Los perezosos dicen: “Hay un león allá afuera. ¡Si salgo podría morir!”
The slouthfull man saith, A lyon is without, I shall be slaine in the streete.
14 Las palabras seductoras de una mujer inmoral son como una trampa peligrosa. Si el Señor está enojado contigo, caerás en la trampa.
The mouth of strage women is as a deepe pit: he with whom the Lord is angry, shall fall therein.
15 Los niños son ignorantes por naturaleza. La corrección física les ayudará a entrar en razón.
Foolishnesse is bounde in the heart of a childe: but the rodde of correction shall driue it away from him.
16 Si oprimes al pobre para hacerte rico, o si eres generoso con el rico, terminarás siendo pobre tú mismo.
Hee that oppresseth the poore to increase him selfe, and giueth vnto the riche, shall surely come to pouertie.
17 Atiende y escucha las palabras de los sabios. Medita cuidadosamente en mis enseñanzas,
Incline thine eare, and heare the wordes of the wise, and apply thine heart vnto my knowledge.
18 porque es bueno que guardes estas palabras en tu mente para que estés listo para compartirlas.
For it shalbe pleasant, if thou keepe them in thy bellie, and if they be directed together in thy lippes.
19 Hoy te explico hoy para que confíes en el Señor. ¡Sí, a ti!
That thy confidence may be in the Lord, I haue shewed thee this day: thou therefore take heede.
20 ¿Acaso no he escrito para ti treinta consejos de sabiduría?
Haue not I written vnto thee three times in counsels and knowledge,
21 Son para aclararte lo recto y verdadero, a fin de que puedas dar una explicación veraz a aquellos a que te enviaron.
That I might shewe thee the assurance of the wordes of trueth to answere the wordes of trueth to them that sende to thee?
22 Pues no debes robarle al pobre solo porque es pobre; y no deberías sofocar en la corte a los de menos recursos,
Robbe not the poore, because hee is poore, neither oppresse the afflicted in iudgement.
23 porque el Señor peleará su caso, y recuperará lo que les hayan robado.
For the Lord will defende their cause, and spoyle the soule of those that spoyle them.
24 No te hagas amigo de quien se enoja fácilmente. No se asocies con personas irascibles,
Make no friendship with an angrie man, neither goe with the furious man,
25 para que no aprendas a ser como ellos y no destruyas tu vida.
Least thou learne his wayes, and receiue destruction to thy soule.
26 No te comprometas con apretón de manos a ser fiador de otro,
Be not thou of them that touch the hand, nor among them that are suretie for debts.
27 porque si no puedes pagar, ¿por qué tendrían que embargar tu cama?
If thou hast nothing to paye, why causest thou that he should take thy bed from vnder thee?
28 No muevas los hitos fronterizos que establecieron tus antepasados.
Thou shalt not remooue the ancient bounds which thy fathers haue made.
29 Si ves a alguien con talento en su trabajo, notarás que trabajará para reyes y no para la gente común.
Thou seest that a diligent man in his businesse standeth before Kings, and standeth not before the base sort.
