Proverbios 19
1 Mejor es ser pobre y honesto, que un tonto y mentiroso.
Better a poor man who walks with integrity than a fool whose lips are perverse.
2 No es bueno ser de los que no piensan. Si actúas con afán, cometerás errores.
Even zeal is no good without knowledge, and he who hurries his footsteps misses the mark.
3 La gente destruye su vida por causa de su propia estupidez, y se enojan con el Señor.
A man’s own folly subverts his way, yet his heart rages against the LORD.
4 Si eres rico, tendrás muchos amigos; pero si eres pobre, perderás todos los amigos que tenías.
Wealth attracts many friends, but a poor man is deserted by his friend.
5 El testigo falso será castigado; los mentirosos no podrán escaparse con sus mentiras.
A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who utters lies will not escape.
6 Muchos piden favores a personas importantes, y todos son amigos del que es generoso.
Many seek the favor of the prince, and everyone is a friend of the gift giver.
7 Si los familiares del pobre no lo pueden soportar, ¡cuanto menos lo evitarán sus amigos! El tratará de hablarles, pero ellos no lo escucharán.
All the brothers of a poor man hate him— how much more do his friends avoid him! He may pursue them with pleading, but they are nowhere to be found.
8 Si te vuelves sabio, tendrás amor propio; si aprendes a tener buen juicio, serás exitoso.
He who acquires wisdom loves himself; one who safeguards understanding will find success.
9 El testigo falso será castigado, y los mentirosos perecerán.
A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who pours out lies will perish.
10 No es correcto que los tontos vivan en medio de lujos, e incluso es peor que un esclavo gobierne por encima de los líderes.
Luxury is unseemly for a fool— how much worse for a slave to rule over princes!
11 Si tienes inteligencia, serás lento para enojarte. Serás respetado al perdonar ofensas.
A man’s insight gives him patience, and his virtue is to overlook an offense.
12 Cuando un rey se enoja, se escucha como un león rugiente. Pero su bondad es tan suave como el rocío sobre la hierba.
A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
13 Un hijo tonto trae miseria a su padre, y una esposa conflictiva es como una gotera que nunca se seca.
A foolish son is his father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping.
14 De tu padre heredarás una casa y riquezas; pero una esposa prudente es un regalo de Dios.
Houses and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15 Los perezosos se quedan dormidos con frecuencia; pero su holgazanería indica que están hambrientos.
Laziness brings on deep sleep, and an idle soul will suffer hunger.
16 Guarda los mandamientos y vivirás. Recházalos y morirás.
He who keeps a commandment preserves his soul, but he who is careless in his ways will die.
17 Si eres bondadoso con el pobre, estarás prestándole al Señor, y él te pagará con creces por lo que has hecho.
Kindness to the poor is a loan to the LORD, and He will repay the lender.
18 Disciplina a tu hijo cuando aún hay tiempo, pero no lo mates.
Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be party to his death.
19 Los que se enojan con facilidad tienen que pagar el precio por ello. Si les ayudas, tendrás que hacerlo de nuevo.
A man of great anger must pay the penalty; if you rescue him, you will have to do so again.
20 Escucha el consejo y acepta la instrucción, para que con el tiempo te vuelvas sabio.
Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days.
21 Los seres humanos hacen planes en sus mentes, pero la decisión final es del Señor.
Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the purpose of the LORD will prevail.
22 El deseo más profundo de todas las personas es el amor sincero. Mejor es ser pobre que un mentiroso.
The desire of a man is loving devotion; better to be poor than a liar.
23 Honrar al Señor es vida, y podrás descansar confiado, libre de todo mal.
The fear of the LORD leads to life, that one may rest content, without visitation from harm.
24 Los perezosos llevan su mano al plato, y ni siquiera la levantan para poner la comida en su boca.
The slacker buries his hand in the dish; he will not even bring it back to his mouth.
25 Si castigas al burlador, puede que estés instruyendo a un inmaduro. Corrige al sabio, y será más sabio.
Strike a mocker, and the simple will beware; rebuke the discerning man, and he will gain knowledge.
26 Un hijo que abusa de su padre y ahuyenta a su madre, acarrea vergüenza y desgracia.
He who assaults his father or evicts his mother is a son who brings shame and disgrace.
27 Hijo mío, cuando dejes de escuchar mi instrucción pronto dejarás de seguir la sabiduría.
If you cease to hear instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
28 El testigo deshonesto se burla de la justicia, y el malvado se sacia de maldad.
A corrupt witness mocks justice, and a wicked mouth swallows iniquity.
29 El castigo está preparado para los burladores, y el azote para las espaldas de los tontos.
Judgments are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
