Números 14
1 Entonces todos los que estaban allí gritaron toda la noche.
All the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
2 Todos los israelitas fueron y se quejaron a Moisés y Aarón, diciéndoles: “¡Ojalá hubiéramos muerto en Egipto, o aquí en este desierto!
All the children of Israel [God prevails] murmured against Moses [Drawn out] and against Aaron [Light-bringer]. The whole congregation said to them, “We wish that we had died in the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery], or that we had died in this wilderness!
3 ¿Por qué el Señor nos lleva a este país sólo para que nos maten? ¡Nuestras esposas e hijos serán capturados y llevados como esclavos! ¿No sería mejor que volviéramos a Egipto?”
Why does Adonai bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be captured or killed! Wouldn’t it be better for us to teshuvah ·completely return· into Egypt [Abode of slavery]?”
4 Se dijeron unos a otros: “Elijamos un nuevo líder y volvamos a Egipto”.
They said to one another, “Let us make a captain, and let us teshuvah ·completely return· into Egypt [Abode of slavery].”
5 Moisés y Aarón se postraron en el suelo frente a todos los israelitas reunidos.
Then Moses [Drawn out] and Aaron [Light-bringer] fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails].
6 Josué, hijo de Nun, y Caleb, hijo de Jefone, estaban allí. Habían sido parte del grupo que había ido a espiar la tierra. Se rasgaron la ropa,
Joshua [Yah Salvation] the son of Nun and Caleb [Dog] the son of Jephunneh, who were of those who spied out the land, tore their clothes.
7 y les dijeron a los israelitas: “El país que viajamos y exploramos tiene muy buena tierra.
They spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails], saying, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceeding good land.
8 Si el Señor está contento con nosotros, nos llevará allí y nos la dará, una tierra tan productiva que es como si fluyera leche y miel.
If Adonai delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us; a land which flows with milk and honey.
9 No se rebelen ni luchen contra el Señor. No hay que tener miedo de la gente que vive en el campo, ¡podemos cogerlos fácilmente! Están indefensos y el Señor está con nosotros. ¡No les tengan miedo!”
Only don’t rebel against Adonai, neither fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us. Their defense is removed from over them, and Adonai is with us. Don’t fear them.”
10 En respuesta, todo el pueblo gritó: “¡Apedréenlos!” Pero la gloria del Señor apareció de repente en el Tabernáculo de Reunión, justo en medio de los israelitas.
But all the congregation threatened to stone them with stones. The kavod Yahweh ·weighty glory of He sustains breathing· appeared in the Tent of Meeting to all the children of Israel [God prevails].
11 El Señor le dijo a Moisés: “¿Hasta cuándo me va a rechazar este pueblo? ¿Cuánto tiempo va a rechazar esta gente la confianza en mí, a pesar de todos los milagros que he hecho delante de ellos?
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “How long will this people despise me? and how long will they not trust in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them?
12 Voy a enfermarlos con una enfermedad y matarlos. Entonces los convertiré en una nación más grande y fuerte que ellos”.
I will strike them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they.”
13 Pero Moisés le dijo al Señor: “¡Los egipcios se enterarán de esto! Fue por tu poder que sacaste a los israelitas de entre ellos.
Moses [Drawn out] said to Adonai, “Then the Egyptians [people from Abode of slavery] will sh'ma ·hear obey· it; for you brought up this people in your might from among them.
14 Ellos le contarán todo al pueblo que vive en este país. Ya han oído que tú, Señor, estás con nosotros los israelitas, que tú, Señor, te muestras cara a cara, que tu nube los vigila, y que los conduces por una columna de nube durante el día y una columna de fuego por la noche.
They will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have sh'ma ·heard obeyed· that you Adonai are in the middle of this people; for you Adonai are seen face to face, and your cloud stands over them, and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.
15 Si matas a toda esta gente de una sola vez, las naciones que han oído hablar de ti dirán:
Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have sh'ma ·heard obeyed· the fame of you will speak, saying,
16 ‘El Señor mató a este pueblo en el desierto porque no pudo llevarlos al país que prometió darles. Los ha matado a todos en el desierto’.
‘Because Adonai was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.’
17 “Ahora, Señor, por favor demuestra el alcance de tu poder tal como lo has dicho:
Now please let the power of 'Adonay [Lord] be great, according as you have spoken, saying,
18 El Señor es lento para enojarse y está lleno de amor confiable, perdonando el pecado y la rebelión. Sin embargo, no permitirá que los culpables queden impunes, trayendo las consecuencias del pecado de los padres a sus hijos, nietos y bisnietos.
‘Adonai is slow to anger, and abundant in chesed ·loving-kindness·, forgiving depravity (moral evil) and rebellious breach of relationship; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the depravity (moral evil) of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation.’
19 Por favor, perdona el pecado de estas personas ya que tu amor digno de confianza es tan grande, de la misma manera que los has perdonado desde que salieron de Egipto hasta ahora”.
Please pardon the depravity (moral evil) of this people according to the greatness of your chesed ·loving-kindness·, and according as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt [Abode of slavery] even until now.”
20 “Los he perdonado como me lo pediste”, respondió el Señor.
Adonai said, “I have pardoned according to your word:
21 “Pero aún así, juro por mi vida y toda mi gloria en la tierra,
but in very deed, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the kavod Yahweh ·weighty glory of He sustains breathing·;
22 ni uno solo de los que vieron mi gloria y los milagros que hice en Egipto y en el desierto, sino que me provocaron y se negaron a obedecerme una y otra vez;
because all those men who have seen my glory, and my signs, which I worked in Egypt [Abode of slavery] and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not sh'ma ·heard obeyed· my voice;
23 ni uno solo de ellos va a ver el país que prometí a sus antepasados. Ninguno de los que me rechazaron lo verá.
surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of those who despised me see it.
24 “Pero como mi siervo Caleb tiene un espíritu totalmente diferente y está totalmente comprometido conmigo, lo llevaré al país que visitó, y sus descendientes serán los dueños.
But my servant Caleb [Dog], because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him I will bring into the land into which he went. His offspring shall possess it.
25 Como los amalecitas y los cananeos viven en los valles, mañana deberán dar la vuelta y volver al desierto, tomando la ruta hacia el Mar Rojo”.
Since the Amalekite [Descendant of Man who licks up] and the Canaanite [Descendant of Humbled] dwell in the valley, tomorrow turn, and go into the wilderness by the way to the Sea of Suf [Reed Sea].”
26 El Señor le dijo a Moisés y Aarón,
Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out] and to Aaron [Light-bringer], saying,
27 “¿Cuánto tiempo más me van a criticar estos malvados? Ya he oído lo que dicen, haciendo quejas en mi contra.
“How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have sh'ma ·heard obeyed· the murmurings of the children of Israel [God prevails], which they murmur against me.
28 Ve y diles: Juro por mi propia vida, declara el Señor, que cumpliré sus deseos, ¡créanme!
Tell them, ‘As I live, says Adonai, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you.
29 Todos ustedes morirán en este desierto, todos los que fueron registrados en el censo que contó a los mayores de veinte años, y será porque se quejaron contra mi.
Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were counted of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me,
30 Ninguno de ustedes entrará en el país que prometí darles, excepto Caleb, hijo de Jefone, y Josué, hijo de Nun.
surely you shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell therein, except Caleb [Dog] the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua [Yah Salvation] the son of Nun.
31 Sin embargo, me llevaré a sus hijos, los que dijeron que serían llevados como botín, al país que ustedes rechazaron, y ellos sí lo apreciarán.
But your little ones, that you said should be captured or killed, them I will bring in, and they shall know the land which you have rejected.
32 Pero todos ustedes van a morir en este desierto.
But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.
33 Tus hijos vagarán por el desierto durante cuarenta años, sufriendo por su falta de confianza, hasta que todos sus cuerpos estén enterrados en el desierto.
Your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your prostitution, until your dead bodies are consumed in the wilderness.
34 “Así como han explorado el país durante cuarenta días, su castigo por sus pecados será de cuarenta años, un año por cada día, y verán lo que ocurre cuando me opongo a ustedes.
After the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you will bear your depravities (moral evils), even forty years, and you will know my alienation.’
35 ¡Yo, el Señor, así lo he dicho! Verán por ustedes mismos que haré esto con estos malvados israelitas que se han unido para oponerse a mí. Sus vidas acabarán en el desierto, y morirán allí”.
I, Adonai, have spoken. I will surely do this to all this evil congregation, who are gathered together against me. In this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.”
36 Los hombres que Moisés había enviado a explorar el país – los que regresaron y porque dieron un mal informe hicieron que todos los israelitas se quejaran contra el Señor –
The men, whom Moses [Drawn out] sent to spy out the land, who teshuvah ·completely returned·, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,
37 los hombres que dieron el mal informe murieron ante el Señor de la peste.
even those men who brought up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Adonai.
38 Los únicos que vivieron fueron Josué hijo de Nun y Caleb hijo de Jefone de los que fueron a explorar el país.
But Joshua [Yah Salvation] the son of Nun, and Caleb [Dog] the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men who went to spy out the land.
39 Cuando Moisés dijo a los israelitas lo que el Señor había dicho estaban muy, muy tristes.
Moses [Drawn out] told these words to all the children of Israel [God prevails], and the people mourned greatly.
40 Se levantaron temprano a la mañana siguiente planeando ir a las colinas. “Sí, realmente pecamos”, dijeron, “pero ahora estamos aquí e iremos donde el Señor nos dijo”.
They rose up early in the morning, and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, “Behold, we are here, and will go up to the place which Adonai has promised: for we have sinned ·deviated (from the standard goal)·.”
41 Pero Moisés se opuso. “¿Por qué desobedecen la orden del Señor? ¡No tendrán éxito en su plan!
Moses [Drawn out] said, “Why are you disobeying the order of Adonai? You shall not succeed!
42 No intenten irse, porque sus enemigos los matarán, pues el Señor no está con ustedes.
Don’t go up, for Adonai is not among you; that you not be struck down before your enemies.
43 Los amalecitas y cananeos que viven allí los atacarán, y morirán por espada. Porque rechazaron al Señor, y no les ayudará”.
For there the Amalekite [Descendant of Man who licks up] and the Canaanite [Descendant of Humbled] are before you, and you shall fall by the sword, because you turned back from following Adonai, therefore Adonai will not be with you.”
44 Pero ellos fueron arrogantes y subieron a las colinas, aunque Moisés y el Arca del Pacto del Señor no se movieron del campamento.
But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain. Nevertheless, the ark of Adonai’s covenant and Moses [Drawn out] didn’t depart out of the camp.
45 Los amalecitas y cananeos que vivían allí en las colinas bajaron y atacaron a esos israelitas y los derrotaron, y los persiguieron hasta Jormá.
Then the Amalekites [Descendants of Man who licks up] came down, and the Canaanites [Descendants of Humbled] who lived in that mountain, and struck them and beat them down, even to Hormah.
