San Lucas 1
1 Como saben, muchos otros han tratado de escribir las cosas que se han cumplido y de las cuales somos partícipes.
Forasmuch as many have undertaken to draw up a relation concerning the matters fully believed among us,
2 Ellos fundamentaron sus relatos en la evidencia de los primeros testigos presenciales y ministros de la Palabra,
as those who from the beginning were eye-witnesses of and attendants on the Word have delivered them to us,
3 y entonces yo también decidí que como he seguido estas cosas muy cuidadosamente desde el principio, sería una buena idea escribir un relato fiel de todo lo que había ocurrido.
it has seemed good to me also, accurately acquainted from the origin with all things, to write to thee with method, most excellent Theophilus,
4 He hecho esto, querido Teófilo para que puedas estar seguro de que las cosas que se te enseñaron son completamente fiables.
that thou mightest know the certainty of those things in which thou hast been instructed.
5 Durante la época cuando Herodes era rey de Judea, había un sacerdote llamado Zacarías, que venía de la división sacerdotal de Abijah. Él estaba casado con Isabel, quien era descendiente del sacerdote Aarón.
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest, by name Zacharias, of the course of Abia, and his wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name Elizabeth.
6 Ambos hacían lo que era recto delante de Dios, y eran cuidadosos en seguir los mandamientos del Señor y las normas.
And they were both just before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
7 Ellos no tenían hijos porque Isabel no podía concebir, y ya estaban envejeciendo.
And they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.
8 Mientras Zacarías servía como sacerdote ante Dios, a nombre de su división sacerdotal,
And it came to pass, as he fulfilled his priestly service before God in the order of his course,
9 fue elegido por suerte conforme a la costumbre de los sacerdotes, para entrar al Templo del Señor y quemar el incienso.
it fell to him by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to enter into the temple of the Lord to burn incense.
10 Durante el momento en que se ofrendaba el incienso, había una gran multitud orando afuera.
And all the multitude of the people were praying without at the hour of incense.
11 Entonces un ángel del Señor se le apareció a Zacarías, y se puso en pie a la derecha del altar del incienso.
And an angel of [the] Lord appeared to him, standing on the right of the altar of incense.
12 Cuando Zacarías vio al ángel, se asustó.
And Zacharias was troubled, seeing [him], and fear fell upon him.
13 Pero el ángel le dijo: “No tengas miedo, Zacarías. Tu oración ha sido escuchada, y tu esposa Isabel concebirá de ti un hijo, y le llamarás Juan.
But the angel said to him, Fear not, Zacharias, because thy supplication has been heard, and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
14 Él te traerá gozo y alegría, y muchos celebrarán su nacimiento.
And he shall be to thee joy and rejoicing, and many shall rejoice at his birth.
15 Él será grande a la vista del Señor. Se negará a beber vino o cualquier otra bebida alcohólica. Estará lleno del Espíritu Santo incluso antes de nacer.
For he shall be great before [the] Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with [the] Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
16 Convertirá a muchos israelitas nuevamente al Señor su Dios.
And many of the sons of Israel shall he turn to [the] Lord their God.
17 Irá delante del Señor en el espíritu y el poder de Elías, para convertir los corazones de los padres a sus hijos nuevamente, y convertir a los rebeldes hacia un entendimiento recto, para preparar a un pueblo que esté listo para el Señor.
And he shall go before him in [the] spirit and power of Elias, to turn hearts of fathers to children, and disobedient ones to [the] thoughts of just [men], to make ready for [the] Lord a prepared people.
18 “¿Cómo puedo estar seguro de esto?” le preguntó Zacarías al ángel. “Soy un hombre viejo, y mi esposa también está envejeciendo”.
And Zacharias said to the angel, How shall I know this, for I am an old man, and my wife advanced in years?
19 “Yo soy Gabriel”, respondió el ángel. “Yo estoy en la presencia de Dios, y fui enviado para hablarte y entregarte esta buena noticia.
And the angel answering, said to him, I am Gabriel, who stand before God, and I have been sent to speak to thee, and to bring these glad tidings to thee;
20 Pero como no creíste lo que te dije, te quedarás mudo, sin poder hablar, hasta el momento indicado, cuando mis palabras se cumplan”.
and behold, thou shalt be silent and not able to speak, till the day in which these things shall take place, because thou hast not believed my words, the which shall be fulfilled in their time.
21 Afuera el pueblo estaba esperando a Zacarías, preguntándose por qué estaba demorando tanto en el Templo.
And the people were awaiting Zacharias, and they wondered at his delaying in the temple.
22 Cuando finalmente salió, no pudo hablarles. Y ellos se dieron cuenta de que había tenido una visión en el Templo, pues aunque podía hacer señas, estaba completamente mudo.
But when he came out he could not speak to them, and they recognised that he had seen a vision in the temple. And he was making signs to them, and continued dumb.
23 Después que hubo terminado su turno de servicio, regresó a casa.
And it came to pass, when the days of his service were completed, he departed to his house.
24 Poco tiempo después, su esposa Isabel quedó embarazada. Y se quedó en casa por cinco meses.
Now after these days, Elizabeth his wife conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
25 “El Señor ha hecho esto en mi favor”, dijo ella, “ahora que ha quitado la desgracia que tenía ante los ojos de los demás”.
Thus has [the] Lord done to me in [these] days in which he looked upon [me] to take away my reproach among men.
26 Al sexto mes de su embarazo, Dios envió al ángel Gabriel a una joven llamada María, que vivía en la ciudad de Nazaret, en Galilea.
But in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent of God to a city of Galilee, of which [the] name [was] Nazareth,
27 Ella estaba comprometida en matrimonio con un hombre llamado José.
to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name [was] Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name [was] Mary.
28 El ángel la saludó. “Eres privilegiada en gran manera”, le dijo. “El Señor está contigo”.
And the angel came in to her, and said, Hail, [thou] favoured one! the Lord [is] with thee: [blessed art thou amongst women].
29 María estaba muy confundida por lo que él le dijo, y se preguntaba cuál era el significado de ese saludo.
But she, [seeing] [the angel], was troubled at his word, and reasoned in her mind what this salutation might be.
30 “No te preocupes, María”, siguió diciendo el ángel, “pues Dios te ha mostrado su gracia.
And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favour with God;
31 Quedarás embarazada y tendras un hijo. Lo llamarás Jesús.
and behold, thou shalt conceive in the womb and bear a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus.
32 Él será muy grande, y será llamado el Hijo del Altísimo. El Señor le dará el trono de David su padre,
He shall be great, and shall be called Son of [the] Highest; and [the] Lord God shall give him the throne of David his father;
and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for the ages, and of his kingdom there shall not be an end. (aiōn g165)
34 “¿Cómo es esto posible?” preguntó María. “Aún soy virgen”.
But Mary said to the angel, How shall this be, since I know not a man?
35 “El Espíritu Santo vendrá sobre ti, y el poder del Altísimo te cubrirá. El bebé que va a nacer es santo, y será llamado el Hijo de Dios.
And the angel answering said to her, [The] Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and power of [the] Highest overshadow thee, wherefore the holy thing also which shall be born shall be called Son of God.
36 E Isabel, tu pariente, aún a su avanzada edad, está embarazada también. La mujer de quien el pueblo decía que no podía tener hijos, ya tiene seis meses de embarazo.
And behold, Elizabeth, thy kinswoman, she also has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month to her that was called barren:
37 Nada es imposible para Dios”.
for nothing shall be impossible with God.
38 “Aquí estoy, lista para ser la sierva del Señor”, dijo María. “Que suceda conmigo tal como dijiste”. Entonces el ángel se fue.
And Mary said, Behold the bondmaid of [the] Lord; be it to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
39 Poco después, María se alistó y se apresuró a las montañas de Judea, a la ciudad donde
And Mary, rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah,
40 estaba la casa de Zacarías. Al entrar llamó a Isabel.
and entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elizabeth.
41 Y tan pronto como Isabel escuchó la voz de María, el bebé saltó de alegría dentro de ella. Isabel estaba llena del Espíritu Santo,
And it came to pass, as Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with [the] Holy Spirit,
42 y gritó con voz muy fuerte: “¡Cuán bendita eres entre las mujeres, y cuán bendito será el hijo que nacerá de ti!
and cried out with a loud voice and said, Blessed [art] thou amongst women, and blessed the fruit of thy womb.
43 ¿Por qué soy tan honrada en recibir la visita de la madre de mi Señor?
And whence [is] this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 Tan pronto como escuché que me llamabas, saludándome, mi bebé saltó de alegría dentro de mí.
For behold, as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the babe leaped with joy in my womb.
45 ¡Cuán afortunada eres, porque estás segura de que el Señor hará lo que te ha prometido!”
And blessed [is] she that has believed, for there shall be a fulfilment of the things spoken to her from [the] Lord.
46 María respondió: “¡Cuánto alabo al Señor!
And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 Estoy tan feliz con Dios, mi Salvador,
and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48 porque decidió que yo, su sierva, fuera digna de su consideración, a pesar de mi humilde procedencia. De ahora en adelante todas las generaciones dirán que fui bendecida.
For he has looked upon the low estate of his bondmaid; for behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
49 El Dios Altísimo ha hecho grandes cosas por mí; su nombre es santo.
For the Mighty One has done to me great things, and holy [is] his name;
50 Su misericordia dura de generación en generación para aquellos que lo respetan.
and his mercy [is] to generations and generations to them that fear him.
51 Con su poder él ha destruido en pedazos a quienes con arrogancia piensan que son muy sabios.
He has wrought strength with his arm; he has scattered haughty [ones] in the thought of their heart.
52 Él derriba a los poderosos de sus tronos, y exalta a los humildes.
He has put down rulers from thrones, and exalted the lowly.
53 Él llena a los hambrientos con cosas buenas para comer, y echa a los ricos con las manos vacías.
He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent away the rich empty.
54 Él ha ayudado a su siervo Israel, acordándose de él con misericordia,
He has helped Israel his servant, in order to remember mercy,
55 tal como se lo prometió a nuestros padres, a Abraham y sus descendientes para siempre”. (aiōn g165)
(as he spoke to our fathers, ) to Abraham and to his seed for ever. (aiōn g165)
56 Y María se quedó con Isabel durante tres meses y luego regresó a su casa.
And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her house.
57 Llegó el momento en que Isabel tendría su bebé, y tuvo un hijo.
But the time was fulfilled for Elizabeth that she should bring forth, and she gave birth to a son.
58 Sus vecinos y parientes oyeron cómo el Señor le había mostrado gran bondad, y celebraron con ella.
And her neighbours and kinsfolk heard that [the] Lord had magnified his mercy with her, and they rejoiced with her.
59 Ocho días después, vinieron para circuncidar al niño. Y planeaban llamarlo Zacarías, como su padre.
And it came to pass on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called it after the name of his father, Zacharias.
60 “No”, dijo Isabel. “Será llamado Juan”.
And his mother answering said, No; but he shall be called John.
61 “Pero no hay ninguno entre tus parientes que tenga este nombre”, le dijeron.
And they said to her, There is no one among thy kinsfolk who is called by this name.
62 Entonces le preguntaron por señas a Zacarías, el padre del niño, cómo quería llamar a su hijo.
And they made signs to his father as to what he might wish it to be called.
63 Entonces Zacarías buscó algo sobre lo cual escribir. Para sorpresa de todos, escribió: “Su nombre es Juan”.
And having asked for a writing-table, he wrote saying, John is his name. And they all wondered.
64 E inmediatamente pudo hablar de nuevo, y comenzó a alabar a Dios.
And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue, and he spake, blessing God.
65 Todos los que vivían cerca estaba maravillados por lo que había sucedido, y se esparció la noticia por toda Judea.
And fear came upon all who dwelt round about them; and in the whole hill-country of Judaea all these things were the subject of conversation.
66 Y todos los que oían la noticia se preguntaban lo que esto significaba. “¿Qué será ese niño cuando crezca?” preguntaban ellos, pues estaba claro que el niño era especial para Dios.
And all who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then will this child be? And [the] Lord's hand was with him.
67 Zacarías, su padre, lleno del Espíritu Santo, dijo esta profecía:
And Zacharias his father was filled with [the] Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,
68 “El Señor, Dios de Israel, es maravilloso, pues ha venido a su pueblo y lo ha libertado.
Blessed be [the] Lord the God of Israel, because he has visited and wrought redemption for his people,
69 Nos ha dado un gran Salvador del linaje de su siervo David,
and raised up a horn of deliverance for us in the house of David his servant;
as he spoke by [the] mouth of his holy prophets, who have been since the world began; (aiōn g165)
71 Él prometió salvarnos de nuestros enemigos, de quienes nos odian.
deliverance from our enemies and out of the hand of all who hate us;
72 Él fue misericordioso con nuestros padres, recordando su santo acuerdo,
to fulfil mercy with our fathers and remember his holy covenant,
73 la promesa que le hizo a nuestro padre Abrahám
[the] oath which he swore to Abraham our father,
74 Él nos libera del temor y nos rescata de nuestros enemigos,
to give us, that, saved out of the hand of our enemies, we should serve him without fear
75 para que podamos servirle haciendo lo que es bueno y recto durante toda nuestra vida.
in piety and righteousness before him all our days.
76 Aunque eres solamente un niño pequeño, serás llamado el profeta del Altísimo, porque tu irás delante del Señor para preparar su camino,
And thou, child, shalt be called [the] prophet of [the] Highest; for thou shalt go before the face of [the] Lord to make ready his ways;
77 dando conocimiento de la salvación a su pueblo mediante el perdón de sus pecados.
to give knowledge of deliverance to his people by [the] remission of their sins
78 Por la bondad solícita de Dios con nosotros, el amanecer del cielo vendrá sobre nosotros
on account of [the] bowels of mercy of our God; wherein [the] dayspring from on high has visited us,
79 para resplandecer sobre aquellos que viven en la oscuridad y bajo la sombra de muerte, y para guiarnos por el sendero de la paz”.
to shine upon them who were sitting in darkness and in [the] shadow of death, to guide our feet into [the] way of peace.
80 Juan, el niño, creció y se volvió fuerte espiritualmente. Vivió en el desierto hasta que llegó el momento de iniciar su ministerio público a Israel.
— And the child grew and was strengthened in spirit; and he was in the deserts until the day of his shewing to Israel.
