San Lucas 7
1 Cuando terminó de hablarle a la gente, Jesús se fue hacia Capernaúm.
Now when He concluded all His sayings in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum.
2 Allí vivía un centurión que tenía un siervo a quien apreciaba mucho y estaba enfermo, a punto de morir.
Well a certain centurion's slave, who was valuable to him, was sick and about to die.
3 Cuando el centurión oyó hablar de Jesús, envió a unos ancianos judíos donde Jesús estaba, pidiéndole que viniera a sanar a su siervo.
So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, asking Him to come and rescue his slave.
4 Cuando los ancianos llegaron donde estaba Jesús, le suplicaron de corazón, diciendo: “Por favor, ven y haz lo que él te pide. Él merece tu ayuda,
And when they came to Jesus they started pleading earnestly with Him, saying that the one for whom He would do this was worthy,
5 porque ama a nuestro pueblo y construyó una sinagoga para nosotros”.
“Because he loves our nation, and he himself built our synagogue.”
6 Jesús fue con ellos, y cuando se aproximaba a la casa, el centurión envió a unos amigos donde Jesús para que le dijeran: “Señor, no te molestes en venir a mi casa, porque no soy digno de ello.
So Jesus went with them. But when He was no longer far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him: “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy that you should come under my roof.
7 Ni siquiera creo que yo sea digno de ir a verte. Solo da la orden, y mi siervo será sanado.
In fact I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. Just say a word and my servant will be healed;
8 Porque yo mismo estoy bajo autoridad de mis superiores, y tengo soldados bajo mi autoridad también. Yo ordeno a uno que vaya, y él va, a otro le ordeno que venga, y él viene. Yo ordeno a mi siervo que haga algo, y él lo hace”.
because I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. I say to one, ‘Go!’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does.”
9 Cuando Jesús oyó esto, se quedó estupefacto. Se dio vuelta hacia la multitud que lo seguía y dijo: “Les digo que no he encontrado una fe como esta ni siquiera en Israel”.
Well upon hearing these things Jesus marveled at him, and turning to the crowd following Him, He said, “I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith!”
10 Entonces los amigos del centurión regresaron a la casa y encontraron al siervo con buena salud.
When those who were sent returned to the house they found that the slave who had been sick was well.
11 Poco después de esto, Jesús fue a una ciudad llamada Naín, acompañado de sus discípulos y una gran multitud.
Now it happened on the next day that He went to a town called Nain, and many of His disciples went with Him, also a large crowd.
12 Cuando se acercaba a la puerta de la ciudad, venía en camino una procesión fúnebre. El hombre que había muerto era el único hijo de una viuda, y una enorme multitud de la ciudad la acompañaba.
But as He approached the town gate, mercy, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; a large crowd from the town was with her.
13 Cuando el Señor la vio se llenó de compasión por ella. “No llores”, le dijo.
When the Lord saw her He had compassion on her and said to her, “Don't cry!”
14 Jesús se dirigió hacia el ataúd, y los portadores del féretro se detuvieron. Jesús dijo: “Joven, a ti te digo, levántate”.
And advancing He took hold of the bier and the bearers stood still. Then He said, “Young man, to you I say, get up!”
15 El hombre que estaba muerto se incorporó y comenzó a hablar, y Jesús lo entregó de regreso a su madre.
So the dead man sat up and began to talk! Yes, He gave him back to his mother.
16 Todos los que estaban allí quedaron impresionados y alababan a Dios, diciendo: “Se ha levantado entre nosotros un gran profeta”, y “Dios ha visitado a su pueblo”.
Fear took hold of all, and they began glorifying God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and, “God has visited His people!”
17 Y la noticia acerca de Jesús se difundió por toda Judea y sus alrededores.
And this report about Him went throughout Judea, as well as all the surrounding region.
18 Los discípulos de Juan le contaron todo esto a él.
Then the disciples of John informed him about all these things.
19 Entonces él llamó a dos de sus discípulos y les dijo que fueran a ver a Jesús, y le preguntaran: “¿Eres tú el que hemos estado esperando, o debemos esperar a otro?”
And summoning a certain two of his disciples, John sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are you the Coming One, or should we look for another?”
20 Y cuando ellos llegaron donde Jesús, le dijeron: “Juan el Bautista nos envió donde ti, para preguntarte: ‘¿Eres tú el que hemos estado esperando o deberíamos esperar a otro?’”
When the men had come to Him, they said: “John the Baptizer has sent us to you, saying, ‘Are you the Coming One, or should we look for another?’”
21 Justo en ese momento Jesús sanó a muchas personas de sus enfermedades, de espíritus malignos e hizo ver a muchos ciegos.
Well in that very hour He healed many from diseases and torments and malignant spirits, and to many blind He granted sight.
22 Entonces Jesús le respondió a los discípulos de Juan: “Vayan y díganle a Juan lo que han visto y oído. Los ciegos ven, los cojos caminan, los leprosos son curados, los sordos oyen, los muertos han vuelto a vivir, y los pobres tienen la buena noticia.
So in answer Jesus said to them: “Go and report to John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind regain sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, dead are raised, the poor are evangelized.
23 Cuán bueno es para los que no se ofenden por mi causa”.
And, blessed is he who does not take offense at me!”
24 Después que los mensajeros de Juan se fueron, Jesús comenzó a decir a la multitud: “Respecto a Juan: ¿Qué esperaban ver ustedes cuando salían a verlo en el desierto? ¿Una caña movida por el viento?
Now when John's messengers had departed, He began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to observe, a reed being shaken by the wind?
25 ¿Esperaban encontrar a un hombre vestido con ropas finas? No, los que usan ropas elegantes y viven con lujos se encuentran en los palacios.
But what did you go out to see, a man clothed in soft garments? Really, those with gorgeous apparel and living in luxury are in palaces.
26 ¿Buscaban a un profeta? Sí, él es un profeta, y les aseguro que él es más que un profeta.
But what did you go out to see, a prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet.
27 “De él se escribió en la Escritura: ‘Mira, yo envío a mi mensajero para que vaya delante de ti y prepare tu camino’.
This is he about whom it is written: ‘Take note, I am sending my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’
28 “¡Yo les digo a ustedes, ningún hombre nacido de mujer es más grande que Juan, pero incluso es menos importante en el reino de Dios es más grande que él!”
Further, I tell you that among those born of women there is no greater prophet than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.”
29 Cuando oyeron esto, todos—incluyendo los cobradores de impuestos—siguieron lo que Dios dijo que era lo correcto, pues habían sido bautizados por Juan.
(When all the people, including the tax collectors, heard this, they declared God to be just, having been baptized with John's baptism.
30 Pero los fariseos y los maestros religiosos rechazaban lo que Dios quería que hicieran, porque se habían negado a ser bautizados por Juan.
But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.)
31 “¿Con qué compararé a este pueblo?” preguntó Jesús. “¿A qué son semejantes?
“To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and to what are they similar?
32 Son como niños sentados en la plaza del mercado, diciéndose unos a otros: ‘Tocamos la flauta para ustedes y ustedes no bailaron; cantamos canciones pero ustedes no lloraron’.
They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we mourned to you, and you did not cry.’
33 Cuando Juan el Bautista vino, él no comía pan ni bebía vino, pero ustedes decían: está poseído por el demonio.
Because John the Baptizer came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon!’
34 Ahora está aquí el Hijo del hombre, y él come y bebe con las personas, pero ustedes dicen: ‘Miren, pasa el tiempo comiendo mucha comida y bebiendo mucho vino. Además es amigo de los recaudadores de impuestos y de los pecadores’.
The Son of the Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Just look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’
35 ¡Sin embargo, los caminos sabios de Dios son demostrados por todos aquellos que lo siguen!”
Still, by all her children wisdom is justified.”
36 Uno de los fariseos invitó a Jesús a comer con él. Y Jesús fue a la casa del Fariseo y se sentó a comer.
Then one of the Pharisees invited Him to eat with Him, so He entered the Pharisee's house and reclined.
37 Pero una mujer, que era una pecadora en esa ciudad, supo que Jesús estaba comiendo en la casa del Fariseo. Se dirigió allí, llevando un frasco con perfume de alabastro.
But then, a woman in the town who was a sinner, when she found out that He was reclining in the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster flask of perfume,
38 Se arrodilló junto a Jesús y con sus lágrimas mojó sus pies, luego las secó con su cabello. Ella besó sus pies, y luego derramó el perfume sobre ellos.
and as she stood behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears and kept wiping them with the hair of her head; and she kept kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume.
39 Cuando el Fariseo que había invitado a Jesús vio esto, pensó: “Si este hombre realmente fuera un profeta, sabría quién es esta mujer que lo está tocando, y qué clase de persona fue. ¡Sabría que ella es una pecadora!”
Now as the Pharisee who had invited Him observed this, he was saying to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him, including what sort of woman she is—because she is a sinner!”
40 Jesús alzó la voz y dijo: “Simón, tengo algo que decirte”. “Dime, maestro”, respondió él.
So Jesus reacted by saying to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he said, “Teacher, say on.”
41 “En cierta ocasión, dos personas le debían a un prestamista. Una persona debía quinientos denarios, la otra persona debía solo cincuenta.
“A certain creditor had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
42 Ninguna de las dos personas podía devolverle el dinero, así que el prestamista les perdonó las deudas. ¿Cuál de las dos personas lo amará más?”
And when they had no way to repay, he freely forgave them both. Now tell me, which of them will love him more?”
43 “Aquella a la que le perdonó más, diría yo”, respondió Simón. “Estás completamente en lo correcto”, dijo Jesús.
So Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one to whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have judged correctly.”
44 Y dándose vuelta hacia la mujer, le dijo a Simón: “¿Ves a esta mujer? Cuando vine a tu casa, no me ofreciste agua para lavar mis pies. Pero ella ha lavado mis pies con sus lágrimas, y los ha secado con su cabello.
Then He turned toward the woman and said to Simon: “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head.
45 Tú no me diste un beso, pero desde que llegué ella no ha parado de besar mis pies.
You gave me no kiss, but she has not stopped kissing my feet since the time I came in.
46 Tú no ungiste mi cabeza con aceite, pero ella derramó perfume sobre mis pies.
You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with perfume.
47 Así que yo te digo: sus muchos pecados han sido perdonados, por eso ella ama tanto. Pero al que se le perdona poco, solo ama un poco”.
For this reason, I say to you, her many sins have been forgiven, because she loved much; but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”
48 Entonces Jesús le dijo a la mujer: “Tus pecados han sido perdonados”.
Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
49 Y los que estaban sentados comiendo allí comenzaron a hablar entre ellos, diciendo: “¿Quién es este que incluso perdona pecados?”
The other recliners began to say within themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Pero Jesús le dijo a la mujer: “Tu fe te ha salvado, vete en paz”.
Then He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go into peace.”
