San Lucas 20
1 En cierta ocasión Jesús estaba enseñando en el Templo a la gente, diciéndoles la buena noticia. Y algunos de los jefes de los sacerdotes y maestros religiosos vinieron con los ancianos.
On one of these days, when Jesus was teaching the people in the Temple Courts and telling the Good News, the Chief Priests and the Teachers of the Law, joined by the Councillors, confronted him,
2 Entonces le preguntaron: “Dinos: ¿con qué autoridad estás haciendo esto? ¿Quién te dio el derecho para hacerlo?”
and addressing him, said: “Tell us what authority you have to do these things. Who is it that has given you this authority?”
3 “Déjenme hacerles una pregunta también”, respondió Jesús. “Díganme:
“I, too,” said Jesus in reply, “will ask you one question. Give me an answer to it.
4 el bautismo de Juan, ¿provenía del cielo, o era solo un bautismo humano?”
It is about John’s baptism — was it of divine or of human origin?”
5 Entonces ellos consultaron entre sí, diciendo: “Si decimos que venía del cielo, él nos preguntará: ‘Entonces ¿por qué no creyeron en él?’
But they began arguing together: “If we say ‘divine,’ he will say ‘Why did not you believe him?’
6 Y si decimos que solo era un bautismo humano, todos nos apedrearán porque ellos están seguros de que Juan era un profeta”.
But, if we say ‘human,’ the people will all stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a Prophet.”
7 Así que respondieron, diciendo: “No sabemos de dónde venía”.
So they answered that they did not know its origin.
8 A lo cual Jesús respondió: “Entonces yo no les diré con qué autoridad hago lo que hago”.
“Then I,” said Jesus, “refuse to tell you what authority I have to do these things.”
9 Luego comenzó a contarle un relato a las personas: “Había una vez un hombre que sembró una viña, la arrendó a unos granjeros y se fue a vivir a otro país por un largo tiempo.
But Jesus began to tell the people this parable — “A man once planted a vineyard, and then let it out to tenants, and went abroad for a long while.
10 Cuando llegó el tiempo de la cosecha, el dueño envió un siervo donde los granjeros para que recogiera de la cosecha, pero los granjeros golpearon al siervo y lo echaron con las manos vacías.
At the proper time he sent a servant to the tenants, that they should give him a share of the produce of the vineyard. The tenants, however, beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
11 Así que el propietario envió a otro siervo, pero también lo golpearon y lo maltrataron terriblemente, y lo echaron con las manos vacías.
The owner afterwards sent another servant; but the tenants beat and insulted this man too, and sent him away empty-handed.
12 Entonces el propietario envió a un tercer siervo, y ellos lo hirieron, y lo lanzaron fuera.
He sent a third; but they wounded this man also, and threw him outside.
13 “Luego el propietario de la viña se preguntó a sí mismo: ‘¿Qué haré? Ya sé, enviaré a mi hijo, al que amo. Quizás a él lo respetarán’.
‘What shall I do?’ said the owner of the vineyard. ‘I will send my son, who is very dear to me. Perhaps they will respect him.’
14 Pero cuando lo vieron venir, los granjeros debatieron entre ellos y dijeron: ‘Este es el heredero del dueño. ¡Matémoslo! Así podremos quedarnos con su herencia’.
But, on seeing him, the tenants consulted with one another. ‘Here is the heir!’ they said. ‘Let us kill him, and then the inheritance will become ours.’
15 Entonces lo lanzaron fuera de la viña y lo mataron. Ahora, ¿qué hará el dueño de la viña con ellos?
So they threw him outside the vineyard and killed him. Now what will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
16 Vendrá y los matará y le entregará la viña a otros”. Cuando ellos oyeron este relato, dijeron: “¡Ojalá que nunca ocurra eso!”
He will come and put those tenants to death, and will let the vineyard to others.” “Heaven forbid!” they exclaimed when they heard it.
17 Pero Jesús los miró y dijo: “Entonces ¿por qué dicen las Escrituras: ‘La piedra que los constructores rechazaron se ha convertido en la piedra angular’?
But Jesus looked at them and said: “What then is the meaning of this passage? — ‘The very stone which the builders despised has now itself become the corner-stone.’
18 Todo el que se tropieza con esa piedra, se hará pedazos; y aplastará a aquellos a quienes les caiga encima”.
Every one who falls on that stone will be dashed to pieces, while any one on whom it falls — it will scatter him as dust.”
19 E inmediatamente los maestros religiosos y los jefes de los sacerdotes quisieron arrestarlo porque se dieron cuenta de que el relato que Jesús había contado estaba dirigido contra a ellos, pero tenían miedo de lo que la gente pudiera hacer.
After this the Teachers of the Law and the Chief Priest were eager to lay hands on Jesus then and there, but they were afraid of the people; for they saw that it was at them that he had aimed this parable.
20 Así que esperando la oportunidad, enviaron espías que se hicieron pasar por hombres sinceros. Ellos trataban de sorprender a Jesús diciendo algo que les permitiera entregarlo al poder y autoridad del gobernador.
Having watched their opportunity, they afterwards sent some spies, who pretended to be good men, to catch Jesus in the course of conversation, and so enable them to give him up to the Governor’s jurisdiction and authority.
21 Entonces le dijeron: “Maestro, sabemos que enseñas lo que es recto, y que no te dejas persuadir por la opinión de los demás. Tú realmente enseñas el camino de Dios.
These men asked Jesus a question. They said: “Teacher, we know that you are right in what you say and teach, and that you do not take any account of a man’s position, but teach the Way of God honestly;
22 ¿Deberíamos pagar los impuestos al Cesar, o no?”
are we right in paying tribute to the Emperor or not?”
23 Pero Jesús se dio cuenta de su trampa, y les dijo:
Seeing through their deceitfulness, Jesus said to them:
24 “Muéstrenme una moneda, un denario. ¿De quién es la imagen y la inscripción que están en ella?” “Es del césar”, respondieron ellos.
“Show me a florin. Whose head and title are on it?”
25 “Entonces páguenle al César lo que le corresponde al César, y páguenle a Dios lo que le corresponde a Dios”, les dijo.
“The Emperor’s,” they said; and Jesus replied: “Well then, pay to the Emperor what belongs to the Emperor, and to God what belongs to God.”
26 Y ellos no pudieron atraparlo por lo que le dijo a la gente. Quedaron pasmados con esta respuesta, y se quedaron en silencio.
They could not lay hold of this answer before the people; and, in their wonder at his reply, they held their tongues.
27 Entonces vinieron unos Saduceos, quienes no creen en la resurrección, y le hicieron a Jesús la siguiente pregunta:
Presently there came up some Sadducees, who maintain that there is no resurrection. Their question was this —
28 “Maestro”, comenzaron, “Moisés nos dio una ley que dice que si un hombre casado muere y deja a su esposa sin hijos, entonces su hermano debe casarse con la viuda y tener hijos por ese hermano que murió.
“Teacher, Moses laid down for us in his writings that — ‘Should a man’s married brother die, and should he be childless, the man should take the widow as his wife, and raise up a family for his brother.’
29 Había siete hermanos. El primero tuvo una esposa y murió sin tener hijos.
Well, there were once seven brothers; of whom the eldest, after taking a wife, died childless.
30 Luego el segundo
The second and third brothers both took her as their wife;
31 y el tercer hermano se casaron con ella. Al final todos los siete hermanos se casaron con ella, y murieron sin tener hijos.
and so, too, did all seven — dying without children.
32 Finalmente ella también murió.
The woman herself was the last to die.
33 Ahora, ¿cuál de todos será su esposo en la resurrección, siendo que todos los siete hermanos se casaron con ella?”
About the woman, then — at the resurrection, whose wife is she to be, all seven brothers having had her as their wife?”
“The men and women of this world,” said Jesus, “marry and are given in marriage; (aiōn g165)
35 “Pero los que sean dignos de participar del mundo venidero y de la resurrección de entre los muertos no se casarán ni se darán en casamiento. (aiōn g165)
but, for those who are thought worthy to attain to that other world and the resurrection from the dead, there is no marrying or being married, (aiōn g165)
36 Ya no podrán morir; serán como ángeles y son hijos de Dios puesto que son hijos de la resurrección.
nor indeed can they die again, for they are like angels and, having shared in the resurrection, they are God’s Sons.
37 Pero en cuanto a la pregunta sobre si los muertos resucitarán, incluso Moisés demostró este hecho cuando escribió sobre el arbusto ardiente, cuando llama al Señor como ‘el Dios de Abraham, el Dios de Isaac, y el Dios de Jacob’.
As to the fact that the dead rise, even Moses indicated that, in the passage about the Bush, when he calls the Lord — ‘The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’
38 Él no es el Dios de los muertos, sino de los vivos, porque para él ellos aún están vivos”.
Now he is not God of dead men, but of living. For in his sight all are alive.”
39 Algunos de los maestros religiosos respondieron: “Esa fue una buena respuesta, Maestro”.
“Well said, Teacher!” exclaimed some of the Teachers of the Law,
40 Y después de esto, ninguno se atrevió a hacerle más preguntas.
for they did not venture to question him any further.
41 Entonces Jesús les preguntó: “¿Por qué se dice que Cristo es el hijo de David?
But Jesus said to them: “How is it that people say that the Christ is to be David’s son?
42 Pues el mismo David dice en el libro de los salmos: ‘El Señor le dijo a mi Señor: “Siéntate a mi diestra
For David, in the Book of Psalms, says himself — ‘The Lord said to my lord: “Sit at my right hand,
43 hasta que ponga a tus enemigos como estrado de tus pies”’.
until I put thy enemies as a stool for thy feet.”’
44 David lo llama ‘Señor’. ¿Cómo entonces, puede ser el hijo de David?”
David, then, calls him ‘lord,’ so how is he David’s son?”
45 Mientras todos estaban atentos, dijo a sus discípulos:
While all the people were listening, Jesus said to the disciples:
46 “Cuídense de los líderes religiosos a quienes les gusta caminar por ahí con batas largas, y les encanta que los saluden en las plazas, y tener los mejores asientos en las sinagogas y lugares de honor en los banquetes.
“Be on your guard against the Teachers of the Law, who delight to walk about in long robes, and like to be greeted in the streets with respect, and to have the best seats in the Synagogues, and places of honour at dinner.
47 Ellos engañan a las viudas y les quitan lo que tienen, y ocultan el tipo de personas que son realmente por medio de sus largas oraciones. Ellos recibirán una condenación severa en el juicio”.
These are the men who rob widows of their houses, and make a pretence of saying long prayers. Their sentence will be all the heavier.”
