Jueces 1

1 Después de la muerte de Josué, los israelitas preguntaron al Señor: “¿Qué tribu de entre nosotros debe ir primero a atacar a los cananeos?”

Now after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel made request to the Lord, saying, Who is to go up first to make war for us against the Canaanites?

2 “Judá debe ir primero”, respondió el Señor. “Les he entregado la tierra”.

And the Lord said, Judah is to go up: see, I have given the land into his hands.

3 Los hombres de Judá dijeron a sus parientes de la tribu de Simeón: “Vengan con nosotros a la tierra que nos ha sido asignada y luchen juntos con nosotros contra los cananeos. Entonces haremos lo mismo con ustedes y con la tierra que les fue asignada”. Así que la tribu de Simeón se unió a ellos.

Then Judah said to Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my heritage, so that we may make war against the Canaanites; and I will then go with you into your heritage. So Simeon went with him.

4 Los hombres de Judá atacaron a los cananeos y a los ferezeos, y el Señor los entregó derrotados. Mataron a diez mil enemigos en la ciudad de Bezec.

And Judah went up; and the Lord gave the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hands; and they overcame ten thousand of them in Bezek.

5 Allí se enfrentaron a Adoní Bezec y lucharon con él, derrotando a los cananeos y a los ferezeos.

And they came across Adoni-zedek, and made war on him; and they overcame the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

6 Adoní Bezec huyó, pero ellos lo persiguieron y lo capturaron, y luego le cortaron los pulgares y los dedos gordos de los pies.

But Adoni-zedek went in flight; and they went after him and overtook him, and had his thumbs and his great toes cut off.

7 Adoní Bezec dijo: “Tuve setenta reyes con los pulgares y los dedos gordos de los pies cortados recogiendo las sobras de debajo de mi mesa. Ahora Dios me ha devuelto de la misma manera lo que les hice a ellos”. Lo llevaron a Jerusalén, donde murió.

And Adoni-zedek said, Seventy kings, whose thumbs and great toes had been cut off, got broken meat under my table: as I have done, so has God done to me in full. And they took him to Jerusalem, and he came to his end there.

8 Los hombres de Judá atacaron Jerusalén y la conquistaron. Mataron a los habitantes a espada y quemaron la ciudad.

Then the children of Judah made an attack on Jerusalem, and took it, burning down the town after they had put its people to the sword without mercy.

9 Después de esto, los hombres de Judá fueron a luchar contra los cananeos que vivían en la región montañosa, en el Néguev y en las estribaciones de las tierras bajas.

After that the children of Judah went down to make war on the Canaanites living in the hill-country and in the south and in the lowlands.

10 Atacaron a los cananeos que vivían en Hebrón (antes conocida como Quiriat Arba) y derrotaron a Sesay, Ajimán y Talmai.

And Caleb went against the Canaanites of Hebron: (now in earlier times Hebron was named Kiriath-arba: ) and he put Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai to the sword.

11 De allí pasaron a atacar a los que vivían en Debir (antes conocida como Quiriat Sefer).

And from there he went up against the people of Debir. (Now the name of Debir in earlier times was Kiriath-sepher.)

12 Caleb anunció: “Daré a mi hija Acsa en matrimonio al que ataque y capture Quiriat Sefer”.

And Caleb said, I will give Achsah, my daughter, as wife to the man who overcomes Kiriath-sepher and takes it.

13 Otoniel, hijo de Quenaz, hermano menor de Caleb, fue quien la capturó, así que le dio a su hija Acsa en matrimonio.

And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; so he gave him his daughter Achsah for his wife.

14 Cuando Acsa se acercó a Otoniel, laconvención para que le pidiera un terreno a su padre. Cuando ella se bajó del asno, Caleb le preguntó: “¿Qué quieres?”

Now when she came to him, he put into her mind the idea of requesting a field from her father: and she got down from her ass; and Caleb said to her, What is it?

15 “Por favor, dame una bendición”, respondió ella. “Me diste una tierra que es como el desierto, así que por favor dame también manantiales de agua”. Así que Caleb le dio los manantiales superiores e inferiores.

And she said to him, Give me a blessing; because you have put me in a dry south-land, now give me springs of water. So Caleb gave her the higher spring and the lower spring.

16 Los descendientes del suegro de Moisés, el ceneo, fueron con el pueblo de Judá desde la ciudad de las palmeras hasta el desierto de Judá, en el Néguev, cerca de Arad, donde se establecieron entre el pueblo.

Now Hobab the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, had come up out of the town of palm-trees, with the children of Judah, into the waste land of Arad; and he went and was living among the Amalekites;

17 Entonces Judá se unió a Simeón y derrotó a los cananeos que vivían en Zefat. Destruyeron completamente la ciudad, por lo que la llamaron Horma.

And Judah went with Simeon, his brother, and overcame the Canaanites living in Zephath, and put it under the curse; and he gave the town the name of Hormah.

18 Judá también capturó las ciudades de Gaza, Ascalón y Ecrón, cada una con su territorio circundante.

Then Judah took Gaza and its limit, and Ashkelon and its limit, and Ekron and its limit.

19 El Señor estaba con Judá, y se apoderaron de la región montañosa, pero no pudieron expulsar a los habitantes de la llanura porque tenían carros de hierro.

And the Lord was with Judah; and he took the hill-country for his heritage; but he was unable to make the people of the valley go out, for they had war-carriages of iron.

20 Como Moisés había estipulado, Hebrón fue entregada a Caleb, quien expulsó de ella a los descendientes de tres hijos de Anac.

And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had said; and he took the land of the three sons of Anak, driving them out from there.

21 Sin embargo, Benjamín no pudo expulsar a los jebuseos, los habitantes de Jerusalén, por lo que los jebuseos viven entre el pueblo de Benjamín en Jerusalén hasta el día de hoy.

And the children of Judah did not make the Jebusites who were living in Jerusalem go out; the Jebusites are still living with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem.

22 Los descendientes de José fueron y atacaron la ciudad de Betel, y el Señor estaba con ellos.

And the family of Joseph went up against Beth-el, and the Lord was with them.

23 Enviaron espías a investigar Betel, que antes se llamaba Luz.

So they sent men to make a search round Beth-el. (Now the name of the town in earlier times was Luz.)

24 Los espías vieron a un hombre que salía de la ciudad y le dijeron: “Por favor, muéstranos cómo entrar en la ciudad, y te trataremos bien”.

And the watchers saw a man coming out of the town, and said to him, If you will make clear to us the way into the town, we will be kind to you.

25 El hombre les mostró el camino para entrar en la ciudad, y mataron a todos los habitantes, excepto al hombre y a su familia, a quienes dejaron ir.

So he made clear to them the way into the town, and they put it to the sword; but they let the man and all his family get away safe.

26 El hombre se trasladó al país de los hititas, construyó allí una ciudad y la llamó Luz, que es su nombre hasta hoy.

And he went into the land of the Hittites, building a town there and naming it Luz: which is its name to this day.

27 Sin embargo, Manasés no expulsó a los habitantes de las ciudades de Bet Seán, Taanac, Dor, Ibleam, Meguido y sus aldeas circundantes porque los cananeos insistieron en vivir en la tierra.

And Manasseh did not take away the land of the people of Beth-shean and its daughter-towns, or of Taanach and its daughter-towns, or of the people of Dor and its daughter-towns, or of the people of Ibleam and its daughter-towns, or of the people of Megiddo and its daughter-towns, driving them out; but the Canaanites would go on living in that land.

28 Cuando los israelitas se hicieron más fuertes, obligaron a los cananeos a realizar trabajos forzados, pero nunca los expulsaron del todo.

And whenever Israel became strong, they put the Canaanites to forced work, without driving them out completely.

29 Efraín no expulsó a los cananeos que vivían en la ciudad de Gezer, así que los cananeos siguieron viviendo allí entre ellos.

And Ephraim did not make the Canaanites who were living in Gezer go out; but the Canaanites went on living in Gezer among them.

30 Zabulón no expulsó a los habitantes de las ciudades de Quitrón y Nalol, por lo que los cananeos siguieron viviendo entre ellos. Sin embargo, los cananeos fueron obligados a realizar trabajos forzados para el pueblo de Zabulón.

Zebulun did not make the people of Kitron or the people of Nahalol go out; but the Canaanites went on living among them and were put to forced work.

31 Aser no expulsó a la gente que vivía en las ciudades de Aco, Sidón, Ajlab, Aczib, Jelba, Afec y Rejob,

And Asher did not take the land of the people of Acco, or Zidon, or Ahlab, or Achzib, or Helbah, or Aphik, or Rehob, driving them out;

32 así que el pueblo de Aser siguió viviendo allí entre los habitantes cananeos de la tierra porque no los habían expulsado.

But the Asherites went on living among the Canaanites, the people of the land, without driving them out.

33 Neftalí no expulsó a los habitantes de las ciudades de Bet-semes y Bet-anat. Así que el pueblo de Aser siguió viviendo allí entre los habitantes cananeos de la tierra porque no los habían expulsado. Sin embargo, el pueblo de Bet-semes y Bet-anat fue obligada a realizar trabajos forzados para el pueblo de Neftalí.

Naphtali did not take the land of the people of Beth-shemesh or of Beth-anath, driving them out; but he was living among the Canaanites in the land; however, the people of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath were put to forced work.

34 Los amorreos hicieron retroceder al pueblo de Dan a la región montañosa; no los dejaron bajar a las tierras bajas.

And the children of Dan were forced into the hill-country by the Amorites, who would not let them come down into the valley;

35 Los amorreos insistieron en quedarse en el monte Heres, Ajalón y Salbim, pero cuando las tribus de José se hicieron más fuertes, los amorreos fueron obligados a hacer trabajos forzados.

For the Amorites would go on living in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim; but the children of Joseph became stronger than they, and put them to forced work.

36 La frontera con los amorreos iba desde el Paso del Escorpión, pasando por Sela y subiendo desde allí.

And the limit of the Edomites went from the slope of Akrabbim from Sela and up.
