Jueces 12

1 Entonces los efraimitas fueron convocados y cruzaron el Jordán hasta Zafón. Le dijeron a Jefté: “¿Por qué fuiste a luchar contra los amonitas sin convocarnos para que fuéramos contigo? Vamos a quemar tu casa contigo dentro”.

And the men of Ephraim were called together, and went northward, and said unto Yiphthach, Wherefore didst thou pass over to fight against the children of 'Ammon, and didst not call for us to go with thee? thy house will we burn over thee with fire.

2 “Yo era un hombre responsable de una gran lucha”, respondió Jefté. “Yo y mi pueblo estábamos luchando contra los amonitas. Cuando te pedí ayuda, no vinieron a salvarme de ellos.

And Yiphthach said unto them, I and my people were greatly engaged in strife with the children of 'Ammon; and I called you, but ye helped me not out of their hand.

3 Cuando me di cuenta de que no iban a ayudarme, me hice cargo de mi propia vida y fui a luchar contra los amonitas, y el Señor me hizo victorioso sobre ellos. Entonces, ¿por qué han venido hoy a atacarme?”.

And when I saw that ye helped me not, I put my life in my hand, and passed over to the children of 'Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hand; and why then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?

4 Jefté convocó a todos los hombres de Galaad y luchó contra los efraimitas. Los hombres de Galaad los mataron porque los efraimitas se burlaban de ellos, diciendo: “Ustedes los galaaditas no son más que fugitivos que viven entre Efraín y Manasés”.

Then Yiphthach gathered together all the men of Gil'ad, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gil'ad smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye are fugitives of Ephraim: Gil'ad is in the midst, between Ephraim and Menasseh.

5 Los galaaditas tomaron el control de los vados sobre el río Jordán que conducían al territorio de Efraín, y cuando un efraimita que escapaba de la batalla venía y pedía: “Déjenme cruzar”, los galaaditas le preguntaban: “¿Eres efraimita?”; si respondían “No”,

And the Gil'adites seized on the passages of the Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it came to pass, when the Ephraimites who had escaped said, Let me pass over; that the men of Gil'ad said unto him, Art thou an Ephrathite? and if he said, No;

6 le decían: “Di Shibboleth”. Y los que eran de Efraín, dirían“Sibboleth” porque ellos no podían pronunciarlo bien, y así los agarrarían y los matarían allí en los vados del Jordán. Un total de 42.000 fueron asesinados en esa ocasión.

Then said they unto him, Do say, Shibboleth; but when he said, Sibboleth, and was not able to pronounce it correctly, they laid hold of him and slew him on the passages of the Jordan; and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.

7 Jefté dirigió a Israel como juez durante seis años. Luego murió y fue enterrado en una de las ciudades de Galaad.

And Yiphthach judged Israel six years; and then died Yiphthach the Gil'adite, and was buried in [one of] the cities of Gil'ad.

8 Después de Jefté, Ibzán de Belén dirigió a Israel como juez.

And after him there judged Israel Ibzan of Beth-lechem.

9 Tuvo treinta hijos y treinta hijas. Casó a sus hijas con hombres de otras tribus, y trajo a treinta esposas de otras tribus para que se casaran con sus hijos. Ibzán dirigió a Israel como juez durante siete años.

And he had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in for his sons from abroad: and he judged Israel seven years.

10 Luego Ibzán murió y fue enterrado en Belén.

Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Beth-lechem.

11 Después de él, Elón de Zabulón dirigió a Israel como juez durante diez años.

And after him there judged Israel Elon the Zebulonite; and he judged Israel ten years.

12 Luego murió y fue enterrado en Ajalón, en el territorio de Zabulón.

Then died Elon the Zebulonite, and was buried in Ayalon in the country of Zebulun.

13 Después de él, Abdón, hijo de Hilel, de Piratón, dirigió a Israel como juez.

And after him there judged Israel 'Abdon the son of Hillel the Pir'athonite.

14 Tuvo cuarenta hijos y treinta nietos, que montaban setenta asnos. Dirigió a Israel como juez durante ocho años.

And he had forty sons and thirty grandsons, that rode on seventy ass-colts; and he judged Israel eight years.

15 Luego murió y fue enterrado en Piratón, en el territorio de Efraín, en la región montañosa de los amalecitas.

Then died 'Abdon the son of Hillel the Pir'athonite, and was buried in Pir'athon in the land of Ephraim, in the mountain of the 'Amalekites.
