1 Después del tiempo de Abimelec, Tola, hijo de Fuvá, hijo de Dodóde la tribu de Isacar, entró en escena para salvar a Israel. Vivía en la ciudad de Shamir, en la región montañosa de Efraín.

2 Dirigió a Israel como juez durante veintitrés años. Luego murió y fue enterrado en Shamir.

3 Después de Tola vino Jair, de Galaad, quien dirigió a Israel como juez durante veintidós años.
His successour was Jair, a man of Galaad, that demyde Israel bi two and twenti yeer;
4 Tenía treinta hijos que montaban treinta asnos. Tenían treinta ciudades en la tierra de Galaad, que hasta hoy se llaman las Ciudades de Jair.
and he hadde thretti sones, sittynge aboue thretti coltis of femal assis, and thretti princes of citees, whiche ben clepid bi `his name, Anoth Jair, that is, the citees of Jair, `til in to present day, in the lond of Galaad.
5 Jair murió y fue enterrado en Camón.
And Jair `was deed, and biriede in a place `to which the name is Camon.
6 Una vez más los israelitas hicieron lo que era malo a los ojos del Señor. Adoraron a los baales y a los astoretas, así como a los dioses de Harán, Sidón y Moab, y a los dioses de los amonitas y los filisteos. Rechazaron al Señor y no lo adoraron.
Forsothe the sones of Israel ioyneden newe synnes to elde synnes, and diden yuels in the `siyt of the Lord, and serueden to the idols of Baalym, and of Astoroth, and to the goddis of Sirie, and of Sidon, and of Moab, and of the sones of Amon, and of Filistiym; and thei leften the Lord, and worschipiden not hym.
7 Entonces el Señor se enojó con Israel, y los vendió a los filisteos y a los amonitas.
And the Lord was wrooth ayens hem, and he bitook hem in to the hondis of Filistiym, and of the sones of Amon.
8 Ese año y durante dieciocho años más acosaron y oprimieron a los israelitas, a todos los israelitas que vivían al este del Jordán, en Galaad, la tierra de los amorreos.
And alle that dwelliden ouer Jordan in the lond of Ammorrey, which is in Galaad, weren turmentid and oppressid greetli bi eiytene yeer,
9 Los amonitas también cruzaron el Jordán para atacar a Judá, Benjamín y Efraín, causando terribles problemas a Israel.
in so myche that the sones of Amon, whanne thei hadden passid Jordan, wastiden Juda and Benjamyn and Effraym; and Israel was turmentid greetli.
10 Los israelitas clamaron al Señor por ayuda, diciendo: “Hemos pecado contra ti, rechazando a nuestro Dios y adorando a los baales”.
And thei crieden to the Lord, and seiden, We han synned to thee, for we forsoken oure God, and seruyden Baalym.
11 El Señor respondió a los israelitas: “¿No los salvé de los egipcios, los amorreos, los amonitas, los filisteos,
To whiche the Lord spak, Whether not Egipcians, and Ammorreis, and the sones of Amon, and of Filistiym, and Sidonyes,
12 los sidonios, los amalecitas y los maonitas? Cuando te atacaron y clamaste a mí por ayuda, ¿no te salvé de ellos?
and Amalech, and Canaan, oppressiden you, and ye crieden to me, and Y delyuerede you fro `the hondis of hem?
13 Pero ustedes me han rechazado y han adorado a otros dioses, así que no volveré a salvarlos.
And netheles ye forsoken me, and worschipiden alien goddis; therfor Y schal not adde, that Y delyuere you more.
14 Ve y pide ayuda a los dioses que has elegido. Deja que ellos te salven en tu momento de angustia”.
Go ye, and clepe goddis whiche ye han chose; delyuere thei you in the tyme of angwisch.
15 Los israelitas le dijeron al Señor: “¡Hemos pecado! Trátanos de la manera que creas conveniente, ¡sólo que por favor sálvanos ahora!”.
And the sones of Israel seiden to the Lord, We han synned; yelde thou to vs what euer thing plesith thee; oneli delyuere vs now.
16 Así que se deshicieron de los dioses extranjeros que tenían y adoraron al Señor. Y el Señor no pudo soportar más la miseria de Israel.
And thei seiden these thingis, and castiden forth fro her coostis alle the idols of alien goddis, and serueden the Lord; which hadde `rewthe, ether compassioun, on the `wretchidnessis of hem.
17 Los ejércitos amonitas habían sido convocados y estaban acampados en Galaad. Los israelitas se reunieron y acamparon en Mizpa.
And so the sones of Amon crieden togidere, that is, clepyden hem silf togidere to batel, and excitiden ayens Israel, and settiden tentis in Galaad, `ayens whiche the sones of Israel weren gaderid, and settiden tentis in Masphat.
18 Los comandantes del pueblo de Galaad se pusieron de acuerdo entre ellos: “El que dirija el ataque contra los amonitas se convertirá en gobernante de todos los que viven en Galaad”.
And the princes of Galaad seiden ech to hise neiyboris, He, that bigynneth first of vs to fiyte ayens the sones of Amon, schal be duyk of the puple of Galaad.
