Juan 19
1 Entonces Pilato llevó a Jesús y mandó que lo azotaran.
Therefore Pilate then took Jesus and scourged him.
2 Los soldados hicieron una corona de espinas y la pusieron sobre su cabeza, y lo vistieron con una túnica de color púrpura.
And the soldiers having woven a crown of thorns, they put it on his head, and put around him a purple garment.
3 Una y otra vez iban a él y le decían: “¡Oh, Rey de los Judíos!” y lo abofeteaban.
And they said, Hail, king of the Jews! And they gave him slaps.
4 Pilato salió una vez más y les dijo: “Lo traeré aquí para que sepan que no lo encuentro culpable de ningún crimen”.
Therefore Pilate again went forth outside, and says to them, Behold, I bring him out to you, so that ye may know that I find not one cause in him.
5 Entonces Jesús salió usando la corona de espinas y la túnica de color púrpura. “Miren, aquí está el hombre”, dijo Pilato.
Jesus therefore came outside, wearing the thorny crown and the purple robe. And he says to them, Look at the man!
6 Cuando el jefe de los sacerdotes y los guardias vieron a Jesús, gritaron: “¡Crucifícale! ¡Crucifícale!” “Llévenselo ustedes y crucifíquenlo”, respondió Pilato. “Yo no le hallo culpable”.
When therefore the chief priests and the subordinates saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify, crucify him! Pilate says to them, Ye take him and crucify, for I find no cause in him.
7 Los líderes judíos respondieron: “Tenemos una ley, y de acuerdo a esa ley, él debe morir porque se proclamó a sí mismo como el Hijo de Dios”.
The Jews answered him, We have a law, and according to our law he ought to die because he made himself the Son of God.
8 Cuando Pilato escuchó esto, tuvo más temor que nunca antes
When Pilate therefore heard this word, he was more afraid.
9 y regresó al palacio del gobernador. Pilato le preguntó a Jesús, “¿De dónde vienes?” Pero Jesús no respondió.
And he went into the Praetorium again, and says to Jesus, Where are thou from? But Jesus gave him no answer.
10 “¿Estás negándote a hablarme?” le dijo Pilato. “¿No te das cuenta de que tengo el poder para liberarte o crucificarte?”
Pilate therefore says to him, Thou do not speak to me? Know thou not that I have authority to crucify thee, and I have authority to release thee?
11 “Tú no tendrías ningún poder a menos que se te conceda desde arriba”, le respondió Jesús. “Así que el que me entregó en tus manos es culpable de mayor pecado”.
Jesus answered him, Thou would have no authority against me, unless it were given thee from above. Because of this he who delivered me to thee has greater sin.
12 Cuando Pilato escuchó esto, trató de liberar a Jesús, pero los líderes judíos gritaban: “Si liberas a este hombre, no eres amigo del César. Cualquiera que se proclama a sí mismo como rey, se rebela contra el César”.
From this Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou release this man, thou are not Caesar's friend. Every man who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.
13 Cuando Pilato escuchó esto, trajo a Jesús afuera y se sentó en el tribunal, en un lugar que se llamaba El Enlosado (“Gabata” en Hebreo).
When Pilate therefore heard this word, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
14 Era casi la tarde del día de preparación para la Pascua. “Miren, aquí tienen a su rey”, le dijo a los judíos.
Now it was the Preparation of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he says to the Jews, Look at your king!
15 “¡Mátalo! ¡Mátalo! ¡Crucifícalo!” gritaban ellos. “¿Quieren que crucifique a su rey?” preguntó Pilato. “El único rey que tenemos es el César”, respondieron los jefes de los sacerdotes.
But they cried out, Away, away, crucify him! Pilate says to them, Shall I crucify your king? The chief priests answered, We have no king except Caesar.
16 Entonces Pilato les entregó a Jesús para que lo crucificaran.
Therefore he then delivered him to them, so that he might be crucified, and they took and led Jesus away.
17 Ellos condujeron a Jesús fuera de allí, cargando él su propia cruz, y se dirigió al lugar llamado “La Calavera”, (Gólgota en hebreo).
And he went out bearing his cross to a place called, of a Skull, a place that is called in Hebrew, Golgotha,
18 Lo crucificaron allí, y a otros dos con él: uno a cada lado, poniendo a Jesús en medio de ellos.
where they crucified him, and two others with him, on this side and that, and Jesus in the middle.
19 Pilato mandó a poner un letrero en la cruz que decía: “Jesús de Nazaret, el Rey de los Judíos”.
And Pilate also wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And it was written, JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
20 Muchas personas leyeron el letrero porque el lugar donde Jesús fue crucificado estaba cerca de la ciudad, y estaba escrito en hebreo, latín y griego.
Therefore many of the Jews read this title, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Hebrew, in Greek, in Latin.
21 Entonces los jefes de los sacerdotes se acercaron a Pilato y le dijeron “No escribas ‘el Rey de los Judíos,’ sino ‘Este hombre decía: Yo soy el Rey de los Judíos’”.
Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, Do not write, The king of the Jews, but, That man said I am king of the Jews.
22 Pilato respondió: “Lo que escribí, ya está escrito”.
Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.
23 Cuando los soldados hubieron crucificado a Jesús, tomaron sus ropas y las dividieron en cuatro partes a fin de que cada soldado tuviera una. También estaba allí su túnica hecha sin costuras, tejida en una sola pieza.
The soldiers therefore when they crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and also the tunic. But the tunic was a seamless weave, from the top throughout.
24 Entonces ellos se dijeron unos a otros: “No la botemos, sino decidamos quién se quedará con ella lanzando un dado”. Esto cumplía la Escritura que dice: “Dividieron mis vestidos entre ellos y lanzaron un dado por mis vestiduras”.
They said therefore among themselves, Let us not divide it, but cast a lot for it, whose it will be, so that the scripture might be fulfilled, which says, They parted my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast a lot. Therefore the soldiers indeed did these things.
25 Y así lo hicieron. Junto a la cruz estaba la madre de Jesús, la hermana de su madre, María la esposa de Cleofás y María Magdalena.
And his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene had stood near the cross of Jesus.
26 Cuando Jesús vio a su madre, y al discípulo que él amaba junto a ella, le dijo a su madre: “Madre, este es tu hijo”.
When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing by, he says to his mother, Woman, behold thy son.
27 Luego le dijo al discípulo: “Esta es tu madre”. Desde ese momento el discípulo se la llevó a su casa.
Then he says to the disciple, Behold, thy mother. And from that hour the disciple took her to his own place.
28 Jesús se dio cuenta entonces que había completado todo lo que había venido a hacer. En cumplimiento de la Escritura, dijo: “Tengo sed”.
After this, Jesus, having seen that all things are now completed, so that the scripture might be fully complete, says, I thirst.
29 Y allí había una tinaja llena de vinagre de vino; así que ellos mojaron una esponja en el vinagre, la pusieron en una vara de hisopo, y la acercaron a sus labios.
Therefore a vessel full of vinegar was set there. And having filled a sponge with the vinegar, and having put it around a hyssop, they brought it to his mouth.
30 Después que bebió el vinagre, Jesús dijo: “¡Está terminado!” Entonces inclinó su cabeza y dio su último respiro.
When therefore Jesus received the vinegar, he said, It is finished, and after bowing his head, he gave up the spirit.
31 Era el día de la preparación, y los líderes judíos no querían dejar los cuerpos en la cruz durante el día sábado (de hecho, este era un sábado especial), así que le pidieron a Pilato que mandara a partirles las piernas para poder quitar los cuerpos.
The Jews therefore, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the sabbath, since it was Preparation (for it was the high day of that sabbath), they besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and they might be removed.
32 Entonces los soldados vinieron y partieron las piernas del primero y luego del otro, de los dos hombres crucificados con Jesús,
The soldiers therefore came, and indeed broke the legs of the first, and of the other man who was crucified with him.
33 pero cuando se acercaron a Jesús, vieron que ya estaba muerto, así que no le partieron sus piernas.
But having come to Jesus, when they saw him now having died, they did not break his legs.
34 Sin embargo, uno de los soldados clavó una lanza en su costado, y salió sangre mezclada con agua.
But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and straightaway blood and water came out.
35 El que vio esto dio testimonio de ello, y su testimonio es verdadero. Él está seguro de que lo que dice es verdadero a fin de que ustedes crean también.
And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true. And that man knows that he speaks true, so that ye may believe.
36 Ocurrió así para que se cumpliera la Escritura: “Ninguno de sus huesos será partido”,
For these things happened so that the scripture might be fulfilled, Not a bone of him will be broken.
37 y como dice otra Escritura: “Ellos mirarán al que traspasaron”.
And again another scripture says, They will look toward whom they pierced.
38 Después de esto, José de Arimatea le preguntó a Pilato si podría bajar el cuerpo de Jesús, y Pilato le dio su permiso. José era un discípulo de Jesús, pero en secreto porque tenía miedo de los judíos. Así que José fue y se llevó el cuerpo.
And after these things Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because of fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might remove the body of Jesus, and Pilate allowed him. Therefore he came and removed the body of Jesus.
39 Con él estaba Nicodemo, el hombre que había visitado de noche a Jesús anteriormente. Él trajo consigo una mezcla de mirra y aloes que pesaba aproximadamente setenta y cinco libras.
And Nicodemus also came (he who at the first came to Jesus by night) bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.
40 Ellos se llevaron el cuerpo de Jesús y lo envolvieron en un paño de lino junto con la mezcla de especias, conforme a la costumbre judía de sepultura. Cerca del lugar donde Jesús había sido crucificado, había un jardín;
So they took the body of Jesus, and wrapped it in linen cloths with the spices, just as is the custom of the Jews to bury.
41 y en ese jardín había una tumba nueva, sin usar.
Now a garden was in the place where he was crucified, and in the garden a new sepulcher in which no man was yet laid.
42 Como era el día de la preparación y la tumba estaba cerca, ellos pusieron allí a Jesús.
Therefore because of the Jews' Preparation (because the sepulcher was near) they laid Jesus there.
