Job 38
1 Entonces el Señor respondió a Job desde el torbellino:
And YHWH answers Job out of the whirlwind and says:
2 “¿Quién es el que cuestiona mi sabiduría hablando con tanta ignorancia?
“Who [is] this—darkening counsel, By words without knowledge?
3 Prepárate, y sé fuerte, porque voy a interrogarte y debes responderme:
Now gird your loins as a man, And I ask you, and you cause Me to know.
4 “¿Dónde estabas cuando puse los cimientos de la tierra? Dime, si tienes ese conocimiento.
Where were you when I founded the earth? Declare, if you have known understanding.
5 ¿Quién decidió sus dimensiones? ¿No lo sabes? ¿Quién extendió una línea de medición?
Who placed its measures—if you know? Or who has stretched out a line on it?
6 ¿Sobre qué se apoyan sus cimientos? ¿Quién puso su piedra angular,
On what have its sockets been sunk? Or who has cast its cornerstone—
7 cuando las estrellas de la mañana cantaron juntas y todos los ángeles gritaban de alegría.
In the singing together of [the] stars of morning, When all [the] sons of God shout for joy?
8 “Quien fijó los límites del mar cuando nació?
And He shuts up the sea with doors, In its coming forth, it goes out from the womb.
9 ¿Quién la vistió de nubes y la envolvió en un manto de profunda oscuridad?
In My making a cloud its clothing, And thick darkness its swaddling band,
10 Yo establecí sus límites, marcando sus fronteras.
And I measure My statute over it, And place bar and doors,
11 Le dije: ‘Puedes venir aquí, pero no más lejos. Aquí es donde se detienen tus orgullosas olas’.
And say, To here you come, and no more, And a command is placed On the pride of your billows.
12 “Durante tu vida, ¿has ordenado alguna vez que comience la mañana?
Have you commanded morning since your days? Do you cause the dawn to know its place?
13 ¿Has dicho alguna vez a la aurora dónde debe aparecer para que se apodere de los rincones de la tierra y sacuda a los malvados?
To take hold on the skirts of the earth, And the wicked are shaken out of it,
14 La tierra se cambia como la arcilla bajo un sello; sus rasgos destacan como una prenda arrugada.
It turns itself as clay of a seal And they station themselves as clothed.
15 La ‘luz’ de los malvados les es quitada; sus actos de violencia son detenidos.
And their light is withheld from the wicked, And the arm lifted up is broken.
16 “¿Has entrado en las fuentes del mar? ¿Has explorado sus profundidades ocultas?
Have you come to springs of the sea? And in searching the deep Have you walked up and down?
17 ¿Te han mostrado dónde están las puertas de la muerte? ¿Has visto las puertas de las tinieblas?
Were the gates of death revealed to you? And do you see the gates of death-shade?
18 ¿Sabes hasta dónde se extiende la tierra? ¡Dime si sabes todo esto!
You have understanding, Even to the broad places of earth! Declare—if you have known it all.
19 ¿En qué dirección vive la luz? ¿Dónde habitan las tinieblas?
Where [is] this—the way light dwells? And darkness, where [is] this—its place?
20 ¿Puedes llevarlas a casa? ¿Conoces el camino hacia donde viven?
That you take it to its boundary, And that you understand the paths of its house.
21 ¡Claro que lo sabes, porque ya habías nacido entonces! ¡Has vivido tanto tiempo!
You have known—for then you are born, And the number of your days [are] many!
22 “¿Has estado donde se guarda la nieve? ¿Has visto dónde se guarda el granizo?
Have you come to the treasure of snow? Indeed, do you see the treasures of hail,
23 Los he guardado para el tiempo de la angustia, para el día de la guerra y de la batalla.
That I have kept back for a time of distress, For a day of conflict and battle?
24 ¿Conoces el camino hacia donde viene la luz, o hacia donde sopla el viento del este sobre la tierra?
Where [is] this, the way light is apportioned? It scatters an east wind over the earth.
25 ¿Quién abre un canal para que fluya la lluvia? ¿Quién crea un camino para el rayo?
Who has divided a conduit for the flood? And a way for the lightning of the voices?
26 “¿Quién lleva la lluvia a una tierra deshabitada, a un desierto donde no vive nadie,
To cause [it] to rain on a land [with] no man, A wilderness [with] no man in it.
27 para regar un páramo reseco y hacer crecer la hierba verde?
To satisfy a desolate and ruined place, And to cause to shoot up The produce of the tender grass?
28 ¿Tiene la lluvia un padre? ¿Quién fue el padre de las gotas de rocío?
Does the rain have a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew?
29 ¿Quién fue la madre del hielo? ¿Tiene madre la escarcha del aire?
From whose belly came forth the ice? And the hoarfrost of the heavens, Who has begotten it?
30 El agua se convierte en hielo duro como una roca; su superficie se congela.
Waters are hidden as a stone, And the face of the deep is captured.
31 ¿Puedes unir las estrellas de las Pléyades? ¿Puedes soltar el cinturón de la constelación de Orión?
Do you bind the chains of the Pleiades? Or do you open the cords of Orion?
32 ¿Puedes guiar a las estrellas de Mazarot en el momento adecuado? ¿Puedes dirigir la constelación de la Osa Mayor y sus otras estrellas?
Do you bring out the twelve signs in [their] season? And do you comfort the Great Bear over her sons?
33 ¿Conoces las leyes de los cielos? ¿Puedes aplicarlas a la tierra?
Have you known the statutes of the heavens? Or do you appoint Its dominion in the earth?
34 “¿Puedes gritarles a las nubes y ordenarles que derramen lluvia sobre ti?
Do you lift up your voice to the cloud, And abundance of water covers you?
35 ¿Puedes enviar rayos y dirigirlos, para que te respondan diciendo: ‘Aquí estamos’?
Do you send out lightnings, and they go And say to you, Behold us?
36 ¿Quién ha puesto la sabiduría dentro de la gente? ¿Quién ha dado entendimiento a la mente?
Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the covered part?
37 ¿Quién es tan inteligente como para contar las nubes? ¿Quién puede voltear los cántaros de agua del cielo sobre sus lados
Who numbers the clouds by wisdom? And the bottles of the heavens, Who causes to lie down,
38 cuando el polvo se ha cocido en una masa sólida?
In the hardening of dust into hardness, And clods cleave together?
39 “¿Puedes cazar una presa para el león? ¿Puedes alimentar a los cachorros de león
Do you hunt prey for a lion? And fulfill the desire of young lions?
40 cuando se agazapan en sus guaridas y acechan en los arbustos?
When they bow down in dens—Abide in a thicket for a covert?
41 ¿Quién proporciona alimento al cuervo cuando sus crías claman a Dios, débiles de hambre?”
Who prepares for a raven his provision, When his young ones cry to God? They wander without food.”
