Job 35

1 Entonces Elihú continuó diciendo:

Elihu spake moreover, and said,

2 “¿Crees que es honesto afirmar que tienes razón ante Dios?

Thinkest thou this to be right, [that] thou saidst, My righteousness [is] more than God’s?

3 Y preguntas: ‘¿Qué beneficio obtengo? ¿De qué me ha servido no pecar?’

For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? [and], What profit shall I have, [if I be cleansed] from my sin?

4 “¡Te lo diré, y a tus amigos también!

I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

5 Sólo tienes que mirar al cielo y ver. Observa las nubes en lo alto.

Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds [which] are higher than thou.

6 Si pecas, ¿en qué perjudica eso a Dios? ¿Cómo afectan tus muchos pecados a Dios?

If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or [if] thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

7 Si haces lo correcto, ¿qué bien le haces a él?

If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

8 No. Tus pecados sólo afectan a la gente como tú, y cualquier bien que hagas también les afecta a ellos.

Thy wickedness [may hurt] a man as thou [art; ] and thy righteousness [may profit] the son of man.

9 “La gente clama a causa de las terribles persecuciones, pide que alguien la salve de sus opresores.

By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make [the oppressed] to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

10 Pero nadie pregunta: ‘¿Dónde está mi Dios creador, el que inspira cantos en la noche,

But none saith, Where [is] God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;

11 que nos enseña más que los animales y nos hace más sabios que las aves?’

Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

12 Cuando claman por ayuda, Dios no responde porque son gente orgullosa y malvada.

There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.

13 Dios no escucha sus gritos vacíos; el Todopoderoso no les hace caso.

Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

14 ¿Cuánto menos te escuchará Dios cuando le digas que no te ve? Tu caso está ante él, así que tienes que esperarlo.

Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, [yet] judgment [is] before him; therefore trust thou in him.

15 “Estás diciendo que Dios no castiga a la gente en su ira y presta poca atención al pecado.

But now, because [it is] not [so], he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth [it] not in great extremity:

16 Tú, Job, hablas sin sentido, haciendo largos discursos cuando no sabes nada!”

Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
