Job 34
1 Entonces Elihú continuó:
After proclaiming these things, Eliu now had this to say:
2 “Escuchen mis palabras, hombres que se creen sabios; presten atención a lo que digo, ustedes que creen que saben.
May the wise hear my words, and may the educated listen to me.
3 El oído distingue las palabras igual que el paladar distingue los alimentos.
For the ear examines words, and the mouth discerns foods by the taste.
4 Discernamos por nosotros mismos lo que es justo; decidamos entre nosotros lo que es bueno.
Let us choose judgment for ourselves, and let us consider among ourselves what is best.
5 Job dijo: ‘Soy inocente, y Dios me ha negado la justicia.
For Job has said: “I am just, yet God has subverted my judgment.
6 Aunque tengo razón, me tratan como a un mentiroso; me estoy muriendo de mis heridas, aunque no he hecho nada malo’.
For, within my judgment, there is a lie: my vehement barbs are without any sin.”
7 “¿Ha habido alguna vez un hombre como Job con tanta sed de ridiculizar a los demás?
What man is there that is like Job, who drinks up derision as if it were water,
8 Se hace compañía de gente malvada; se asocia con los que hacen el mal.
who accompanies those who work iniquity, and who walks with impious men?
9 Incluso ha dicho: ‘¿De qué sirve ser amigo de Dios?’
For he has said, “Man will not please God, even if he should travel with him.”
10 “¡Así que escúchenme, hombres de entendimiento! Es imposible que Dios haga el mal y que el Todopoderoso actué con maldad.
Therefore, prudent men, hear me: impiety is far from God, and iniquity is far from the Almighty.
11 Él paga a la gente por lo que ha hecho y la trata como se merece.
For he will restore to man his works, and according to the ways of each, he will repay them.
12 Es absolutamente seguro que Dios no actúa con maldad; el Todopoderoso nunca pervertiría la justicia.
For truly, God will not condemn in vain, nor will the Almighty repudiate judgment.
13 ¿Quién lo puso a cargo de la tierra? ¿Quién le dio la responsabilidad de todo el mundo?
What other is established over the earth? Or whom has he placed over the world, which he made?
14 Si se retirara su espíritu, si recuperara su aliento,
But, if he directs his heart towards him, he will draw his spirit and breath to himself.
15 todos los seres vivos morirían inmediatamente y los seres humanos volverían al polvo.
All flesh will fail together, and man will return to ashes.
16 “Si tienen entendimiento, escuchen esto; presten atención a lo que digo.
Therefore, if you have understanding, hear what is said, and heed the sound of my eloquence.
17 ¿De verdad crees que puede gobernar alguien que odia la justicia? ¿Vas a condenar a Dios Todopoderoso, que siempre hace lo que es justo?
Is he that does not love judgment able to be corrected? And how can you so greatly condemn him who is just?
18 Él es quien dice a los reyes: ‘Ustedes son unos inútiles’, o a los nobles: ‘Ustedes son unos malvados’.
He says to the king, “You are an apostate.” He calls commanders impious.
19 No tiene en mayor consideración a los ricos que a los pobres, pues todos son personas que él mismo hizo.
He does not accept the reputation of leaders; nor does he recognize the tyrant as he contends against the poor. For all are the work of his hands.
20 Mueren en un momento; a medianoche se estremecen y pasan; los poderosos se van sin esfuerzo.
They will die suddenly, and the people will be troubled in the middle of the night, but they will pass through it, and the violent will be taken away without a hand.
21 “Porque él vigila lo que hacen y ve por donde van.
For his eyes are upon the ways of men, and he examines all of their steps.
22 No hay oscuridad tan profunda en la que los que hacen el mal puedan esconderse de él.
There is no darkness and no shadow of death, where those who work iniquity may be hidden.
23 Dios no necesita examinar a nadie con mayor detalle para que se presente ante él para ser juzgado.
For it is no longer within the power of man to enter into judgment with God.
24 Él hace caer a los poderosos sin necesidad de una investigación; pone a otros en su lugar.
He will break into many innumerable pieces, and he will cause others to stand up in their place.
25 Sabiendo lo que han hecho, los derriba en una noche y los destruye.
For he knows their works, and, as a result, he will bring the night, and they will be crushed.
26 Los derriba por su maldad en público, donde pueden ser vistos
Just as the impious do, he has struck them in a place where they can be seen.
27 porque se apartaron de seguirlo, despreciando todos sus caminos.
They, as if with great diligence, have withdrawn from him, and they refused to understand all his ways,
28 Hicieron que los pobres lo llamaran, y él escuchó los gritos de los oprimidos.
so that they caused the outcry of the needy to reach him, and he heard the voice of the poor.
29 Pero si Dios quiere guardar silencio, ¿quién puede condenarlo? Si decide ocultar su rostro, ¿quién podrá verlo? Ya sea que se trate de una nación o de un individuo,
For, when he grants peace, who is there that can condemn? When he hides his face, who is there that can contemplate him, either among the nations, or among all men?
30 una persona que rechaza a Dios no debe gobernar para no engañar a la gente.
He causes a hypocritical man to reign because of the sins of the people.
31 “Si tú le dijeras a Dios: ‘He pecado, pero ya no haré cosas malas.
Therefore, since I have been speaking about God, I will not prevent you from doing the same.
32 Muéstrame lo que no puedo ver. Si he hecho el mal, no lo volveré a hacer’,
If I have erred, you may teach me; if I have spoken unfairly, I will add no more.
33 entonces, ¿debe Dios recompensarte por seguir tus propias opiniones ya que has rechazado las suyas? ¡Tú eres el que tiene que elegir, no yo! Dinos lo que piensas.
Does God require this of you because it is displeasing to you? For you were the first to speak, and not I. But if you know something better, speak.
34 Porque la gente que entiende – los sabios que han oído lo que he dicho – me dirán
Let men of understanding speak to me, and let a wise man listen to me.
35 ‘Job no sabe lo que dice. Lo que dice no tiene ningún sentido’.
But Job has been speaking foolishly, and his words contain unsound teaching.
36 Si tan solo Job fuera condenado porque habla como lo hacen los malvados.
My father, let Job be tested even to the end; may you not retreat from a man of iniquity.
37 Ahora ha añadido la rebeldía a sus pecados y nos aplaude, haciendo largos discursos llenos de acusaciones contra Dios”.
For he adds blasphemy on top of his sins; nevertheless, let him be constrained to be among us, and then let him provoke God to judgment with his speeches.
