Job 22
1 Entonces Elifaz el temanita respondió y dijo:
Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said:
2 “¿Cómo puede alguien ser de ayuda a Dios? Incluso los sabios sólo se ayudan a sí mismos.
Can a man be profitable unto God? Or can he that is wise be profitable unto Him?
3 ¿Acaso le sirve de algo al Todopoderoso que seas una buena persona? ¿Qué gana él si haces lo correcto?
Is it any advantage to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? Or is it gain to Him, that thou makest thy ways blameless?
4 ¿Acaso te corrige y te acusa por tu reverencia?
Is it for thy fear of Him that He reproveth thee, that He entereth with thee into judgment?
5 No ¡Es porque eres muy malvado! ¡Tus pecados son interminables!
Is not thy wickedness great? And are not thine iniquities without end?
6 Sin motivo alguno tomaste la ropa de tu hermano como garantía de una deuda y lo dejaste desnudo.
For thou hast taken pledges of thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
7 Le negaste el agua al sediento y alimento al hambriento.
Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
8 ¿Es que acaso la tierra le pertenece a los poderosos, y sólo los privilegiados tienen derecho a vivir en ella?
And as a mighty man, who hath the earth, and as a man of rank, who dwelleth in it,
9 Has despedido a las viudas con las manos vacías; has aplastado los brazos extendidos de los huérfanos, que pedían ayuda.
Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
10 Por eso estás rodeado de trampas para atraparte, y por eso de repente te asusta el terror.
Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden dread affrighted thee,
11 Por eso está tan oscuro que no puedes ver, y por eso sientes que te ahogas.
Or darkness, that thou canst not see, and abundance of waters cover thee.
12 “¿Acaso Dios no vive en el cielo más alto y mira hasta las estrellas más altas?
Is not God in the height of heaven? And behold the topmost of the stars, how high they are!
13 Pero tú preguntas: ‘¿Qué sabe Dios? ¿Cómo puede ver y juzgar lo que ocurre aquí abajo, en la oscuridad?
And thou sayest: 'What doth God know? Can He judge through the dark cloud?
14 Unas densas nubes lo cubren para que no pueda ver nada mientras camina por el cielo’.
Thick clouds are a covering to Him, that He seeth not; and He walketh in the circuit of heaven.'
15 “¿Por qué insistes en seguir el pensamiento tradicional de los malvados?
Wilt thou keep the old way which wicked men have trodden?
16 Fueron llevados antes de tiempo; todo lo que habían construido fue arrasado.
Who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream;
17 Habían dicho a Dios: ‘¡Vete lejos! ¿Qué puede hacernos el Todopoderoso?’
Who said unto God: 'Depart from us'; and what could the Almighty do unto them?
18 Y, sin embargo, era él quien había llenado sus casas de bienes; pero no aceptaba su manera de pensar”.
Yet He filled their houses with good things — but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19 “Los que hacen el bien se alegran cuando ven la destrucción de los malvados, y los inocentes se burlan de ellos,
The righteous saw it, and were glad, and the innocent laugh them to scorn:
20 diciendo: ‘Nuestros enemigos han sido destruidos, y el fuego ha quemado todo lo que queda de ellos’.
'Surely their substance is cut off, and their abundance the fire hath consumed.'
21 “Vuelve a Dios y reconcíliate con él, y volverás a ser próspero.
Acquaint now thyself with Him, and be at peace; thereby shall thine increase be good.
22 Escucha lo que te dice y no olvides sus palabras.
Receive, I pray thee, instruction from His mouth, and lay up His words in thy heart.
23 Si te vuelves a Dios serás restaurado. Si renuncias a tu vida pecaminosa
If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up — if thou put away unrighteousness far from thy tents,
24 y dejas tu amor por el dinero y el deseo de posesiones,
And lay thy treasure in the dust, and the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks;
25 entonces el Todopoderoso será tu oro y tu plata preciosa.
And the Almighty be thy treasure, and precious silver unto thee;
26 “Entonces te deleitarás en el Todopoderoso y podrás darle la cara sin sentirte avergonzado.
Then surely shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
27 Orarás a él, y él te escuchará, y cumplirás tus promesas a él.
Thou shalt make thy prayer unto Him, and He will hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows;
28 Todo lo que decidas hacer tendrá éxito, y dondequiera que vayas, la luz brillará sobre ti.
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee, and light shall shine upon thy ways.
29 Cuando otros se humillen y digas: ‘Por favor, ayúdales’, Dios los salvará.
When they cast thee down, thou shalt say: 'There is lifting up'; for the humble person He saveth.
30 Dios salva a los inocentes, y tú te salvarás si haces lo que es justo”.
He delivereth him that is innocent, yea, thou shalt be delivered through the cleanness of thy hands.
