Jeremías 3
1 Si un hombre se divorcia de su mujer y ella se va y se casa con otro, ¿podría este hombre volver con ella? ¿No quedaría el país totalmente impuro por ello? Pero ustedes han hecho algo peor al prostituirse con muchos amantes, ¿y ahora quieren volver a mí? declara el Señor.
He hath said, If a man send away his wife, and she go from him and become another man’s, will he return unto her, again? would not that land be, utterly defiled? And, thou, hast been unchaste with many neighbours, and yet [thinkest] to return unto me! Declareth Yahweh.
2 Miren hacia las cumbres desnudas. ¿Hay algún lugar donde no hayan tenido relaciones sexuales? Se han sentado al borde del camino, como un errante en el desierto, esperando que pasen sus amantes. Han ensuciado la tierra con su prostitución y su maldad.
Lift up thine eyes unto the bare heights and see—where thou hast not been unchastely embraced! beside the ways, hast thou sat to them, like the Arabian in the desert, —and hast defiled the land with thine unchastities, and with thy wickedness.
3 Por eso no se ha enviado rocío ni han caído lluvias de primavera. Pero tú te limitas a comportarte como una prostituta; te niegas a aceptar que has hecho algo malo.
Therefore have been withholden the showers, And, the latter rain, hath not come, —Yet the forehead of an unchaste woman, hast thou, Thou hast refused to be ashamed.
4 ¿No me acabas de decir: “Padre mío, has sido un gran amigo mío desde que era pequeño.
Hast thou not from this time, cried unto me, My father! the friend of my youth, art, thou?
5 No te enfadarás conmigo durante mucho tiempo, ¿verdad? ¿No seguirás así siempre?” Esto es lo que has dicho, pero sigues haciendo todo el mal posible.
Will he maintain his anger to times age-abiding? Will he keep it perpetually? Lo! thou hast spoken thus but hast done wicked things and had thy way!
6 Durante el reinado del rey Josías, el Señor me dijo: ¿Has visto lo que ha hecho el infiel Israel? Se ha prostituido en todo monte alto y bajo todo árbol verde.
And Yahweh said unto me, in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen what apostate Israel, did? She used to go upon every high mountain and beneath every green tree, and commit unchastity there.
7 Esperaba que, después de hacer todo esto, volviera a mí. Pero no volvió, y su hermana infiel, Judá, vio lo que pasó.
And I said, after she had been doing all these things, Unto me, shall thou return? and she returned not, —and her treacherous sister Judah saw it!
8 Ella vio que por todo lo que había hecho la infiel Israel al cometer adulterio, la rechacé, dándole un certificado de divorcio. Pero su hermana infiel Judá no tuvo miedo y se prostituyó también.
Though she saw that for all this, apostate Israel having committed adultery, I had sent her away, and had given a scroll of divorcement unto her, yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but, she also, went and committed unchastity.
9 A Israel no le importó la inmoralidad, pues se ensució a sí misma y a la tierra, cometiendo adulterio al rendirle culto a las piedras y a los árboles.
Yea though it had come to pass that through the levity of her unchastity, she had defiled the land, —and committed adultery with Stone and with Tree,
10 A pesar de todo esto, su infiel hermana Judá no volvió a mí con sinceridad. Sólo fingió hacerlo, declara el Señor.
yet, in spite of all this, her treacherous sister Judah returned not unto me, with all her heart, —but, falsely, Declareth Yahweh.
11 El Señor me dijo: La infiel Israel demostró que no era tan culpable como la infiel Judá.
Then said Yahweh unto me, —Apostate Israel, hath justified herself, —more than treacherous Judah.
12 Ahora ve y anuncia este mensaje al norte: Vuelve, Israel infiel, declara el Señor. No me enfadaré más contigo, porque soy misericordioso, declara el Señor. No me enfadaré para siempre.
Go, and proclaim these words, towards the North and say—Return! thou apostate—Israel, Urgeth Yahweh, I will not lower my face against you, —for full of lovingkindness, I am, Declareth Yahweh, I will not maintain [mine anger] unto times age-abiding.
13 Reconoce que hiciste mal, que te rebelaste contra el Señor, tu Dios. Te dispersaste, cometiendo adulterio al adorar a dioses extranjeros bajo cualquier árbol verde, negándote a hacer lo que te dije, declara el Señor.
Only, acknowledge thine iniquity, that against Yahweh thy God, hast thou transgressed, —and hast gone hither and thither unto foreigners under every green tree, and unto my voice, ye have not hearkened Declareth Yahweh.
14 Vuelvan, hijos infieles, declara el Señor, porque estoy casado con ustedes. Los tomaré, uno de un pueblo y dos de una familia, y los llevaré a Sión.
Return, ye apostate sons, Urgeth Yahweh, for, I, am become your husband, —therefore will I take you one of a city, and two of a family, and will bring you to Zion;
15 Os daré pastores que sean como yo, que os alimentarán con sabiduría y entendimiento.
and will give you shepherds according to mine own heart, —who will feed you with knowledge and discretion.
16 En ese momento, a medida que ustedes aumenten en número en el país, declara el Señor, ya nadie hablará del Arca del Acuerdo del Señor. La gente no necesitará pensar en ella, ni recordarla, ni preguntarse qué pasó con ella; y ciertamente no necesitará hacer una nueva.
And it shall come to pass when ye shall be multiplied and become fruitful in the land, in those days, Declareth Yahweh, They shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of Yahweh, Neither shall it come up on the heart, Neither shall they remember it, Neither shall they miss it, Neither shall it be made any more.
17 Cuando llegue ese momento, Jerusalén será llamada el Trono del Señor, y todas las naciones se reunirán en Jerusalén para honrar al Señor. Ya no serán tercos ni malvados.
At that time, shall they call Jerusalem, The throne of Yahweh, and there shall be gathered unto her all the nations—to the Name of Yahweh, to Jerusalem; and they shall walk no more after the stubbornness of their own wicked heart.
18 En ese momento el pueblo de Judá se unirá al pueblo de Israel, y volverán de la tierra del norte al país que les di a sus antepasados para que lo poseyeran.
In those days, shall the house of Judah go unto the house of Israel, —that they may enter together out of the land of the North, upon the land which I gave as an inheritance unto your fathers.
19 Me dije: Quiero que sean mis hijos, y darles el mejor país, el lugar más hermoso de cualquier nación. Esperaba que me llamarais “Padre” y que nunca dejarais de seguirme.
Though, I myself, had said, —How can I put thee among the sons, And give thee a land to be coveted, An inheritance of beauty, of the hosts of nations? Yet I said, My father, shalt thou call me, And away from me, shalt thou not turn.
20 Pero al igual que una esposa puede traicionar a su marido, ustedes me han traicionado, pueblo de Israel, declara el Señor.
But indeed [as] a wife goeth treacherously from her husband, so, have ye acted treacherously with me, O house of Israel, Declareth Yahweh.
21 Hay voces que claman en las cimas de los montes: los israelitas lloran y piden misericordia, porque se han extraviado y se han olvidado del Señor, su Dios.
A voice on the bare heights, is heard, The weeping of the supplications of the sons of Israel, —Because they have perverted their way, Have forgotten Yahweh their God.
22 Volved, hijos infieles, y yo curaré vuestra infidelidad. “¡Ya estamos aquí! Sí, volvemos a ti, porque tú eres el Señor, nuestro Dios”.
Return ye apostate sons, I will heal your apostasies! Behold us! we have come unto thee, For thou, art Yahweh our God.
23 No hay duda de que el culto pagano de las colinas es pura mentira; la idolatría que viene de las montañas es sólo ruido. La salvación de Israel está sólo en el Señor, nuestro Dios.
Surely, to falsehood, pertain the hills The noisy throng on the mountains, —Surely, in Yahweh our God, is the salvation of Israel!
24 Durante toda nuestra vida, la idolatría pagana ha destruido lo que nuestros padres tanto trabajaron: sus rebaños y manadas, sus hijos e hijas.
But, the Shameful thing, hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth: Their flocks, and their herds, their sons and their daughters.
25 Deberíamos acostarnos avergonzados, y que nuestra desgracia nos sepulte. Hemos pecado contra el Señor, nuestro Dios, nosotros y nuestros padres. Desde que éramos jóvenes hasta ahora no hemos obedecido lo que el Señor, nuestro Dios, nos dijo que hiciéramos.
We must lie down in our shame And our reproach, be our covering, For, against Yahweh our God, have we sinned, We and our fathers, from our youth even until this day, —Neither have we hearkened unto the voice of Yahweh our God.
