Jeremías 29
1 El profeta Jeremías escribió esta carta y la envió desde Jerusalén a los ancianos que habían quedado entre los exiliados, a los sacerdotes, a los profetas y a todos los demás que habían sido desterrados de Jerusalén a Babilonia por Nabucodonosor.
And these [are] words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the remnant of the elders of the removal, and unto the priests, and unto the prophets, and unto all the people — whom Nebuchadnezzar removed from Jerusalem to Babylon,
2 Esto sucedió después de que el rey Joaquín, la reina madre, los funcionarios de la corte, los dirigentes de Judá y Jerusalén, los artesanos y los metalúrgicos habían sido desterrados de Jerusalén.
After the going forth of Jeconiah the king, and the mistress, and the officers, heads of Judah and Jerusalem, and the artificer, and the smith, from Jerusalem —
3 Elasá, hijo de Safán, y Gemarías, hijo de Hilcías, llevaron la carta cuando Sedequías, rey de Judá, los envió al rey Nabucodonosor en Babilonia. En la carta Jeremías escribió
By the hand of Eleasah son of Shaphan, and Gemariah son of Hilkijah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon — to Babylon, saying,
4 Esto es lo que el Señor Todopoderoso, el Dios de Israel, dice a todos los exiliados que fueron llevados de Jerusalén a Babilonia:
'Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, to all the removal that I removed from Jerusalem to Babylon,
5 Construyan allí casas para vivir. Planten jardines y cultiven alimentos para comer.
Build ye houses, and abide; and plant ye gardens, and eat their fruit;
6 Cásense y tengan hijos. Hagan arreglos para que sus hijos se casen y puedan tener hijos también. Aumenten en número, no disminuyan.
Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take for your sons wives, and your daughters give to husbands, and they bear sons and daughters; and multiply there, and ye are not few;
7 Ayudad a hacer más próspera la ciudad a la que os he desterrado. Ruega al Señor por ella, ya que, según prospere, tú también lo harás.
And seek the peace of the city whither I have removed you, and pray for it unto Jehovah, for in its peace ye have peace.
8 Esto es lo que dice el Señor Todopoderoso, el Dios de Israel: No te dejes engañar por tus profetas y adivinos, y no escuches ningún sueño que te interpreten.
'For thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Let not your prophets who [are] in your midst, and your diviners, lift you up, nor hearken ye unto their dreams, that ye are causing [them] to dream;
9 Ellos les están profetizando mentiras en mi nombre; yo no los he enviado, declara el Señor.
For with falsehood they are prophesying to you in My name; I have not sent them, an affirmation of Jehovah.
10 Esto es lo que dice el Señor: Cuando terminen los setenta años de exilio en Babilonia, me ocuparé de ustedes y cumpliré mi promesa de hacerlos regresar a Jerusalén.
'For thus said Jehovah, Surely at the fulness of Babylon — seventy years — I inspect you, and have established towards you My good word, to bring you back unto this place.
11 Yo sé lo que pienso hacer por ustedes, declara el Señor. Planeo cosas buenas para ti y no malas. Voy a darte un futuro y una esperanza.
For I have known the thoughts that I am thinking towards you — an affirmation of Jehovah; thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give to you posterity and hope.
12 Entonces pedirás mi ayuda, vendrás a orar a mí, y yo te responderé.
'And ye have called Me, and have gone, and have prayed unto Me, and I have hearkened unto you,
13 Me buscarás y me encontrarás cuando te empeñes en buscarme.
And ye have sought Me, and have found, for ye seek Me with all your heart;
14 Dejaré que me encuentres, declara el Señor. Acabaré con tu cautiverio, reuniéndote de todas las naciones y lugares donde te dispersé, declara el Señor. Los haré volver a casa, al lugar desde donde os envié al exilio.
And I have been found of you — an affirmation of Jehovah; and I have turned back [to] your captivity, and have gathered you out of all the nations, and out of all the places whither I have driven you — an affirmation of Jehovah — and I have brought you back unto the place whence I removed you.
15 Pero si ustedes argumentan: “El Señor nos ha provisto de profetas en Babilonia”,
'Because ye have said, Jehovah hath raised up to us prophets in Babylon,
16 esto es lo que dice el Señor sobre el rey que se sienta en el trono de David y todos los que quedan en Jerusalén, tus conciudadanos que no fueron llevados contigo al exilio.
Surely thus said Jehovah concerning the king who is sitting on the throne of David, and concerning all the people that is dwelling in this city, your brethren who went not forth with you in the removal;
17 Esto es lo que dice el Señor Todopoderoso: Voy a enviar contra ellos guerra, hambre y enfermedad. Los haré como higos podridos, tan malos que no se pueden comer.
Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Lo, I am sending among them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and I have given them up as figs that [are] vile, that are not eaten for badness.
18 Los perseguiré con guerra, hambre y enfermedad. Haré que todos los reinos de la tierra se horroricen de ellos. Se convertirán en una palabra de maldición, totalmente arruinados, gente de la que se burlarán y criticarán entre todas las naciones donde los disperse.
And I have pursued after them with sword, with famine, and with pestilence, and have given them for a trembling to all kingdoms of the earth, for a curse and for an astonishment, and for a hissing, and for a reproach among all the nations whither I have driven them,
19 Voy a hacer esto porque no han obedecido a mis palabras, declara el Señor, que les envié una y otra vez por medio de mis siervos los profetas. Ustedes, los exiliados, tampoco me han obedecido, declara el Señor.
Because that they have not hearkened unto My words — an affirmation of Jehovah — that I sent unto them by My servants the prophets, rising early and sending, and ye hearkened not — an affirmation of Jehovah.
20 Así que escuchen la palabra del Señor, todos los exiliados que envié de Jerusalén a Babilonia.
'And ye, hear ye a word of Jehovah, all ye of the captivity that I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon,
21 Esto es lo que dice el Señor Todopoderoso, el Dios de Israel, sobre Acab hijo de Colaías y Sedequías hijo de Maasías, que les están profetizando mentiras en mi nombre. Voy a entregarlos a Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y él los matará ante tus ojos.
Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, concerning Ahab son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying to you in My name falsehood: Lo, I am giving them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he hath smitten them before your eyes,
22 Por lo que les suceda, todos los exiliados de Judá en Babilonia maldecirán a los demás de esta manera “¡Que el Señor los trate como a Sedequías y Acab, quemados vivos por el rey de Babilonia!”
And taken from them hath been a reviling by all the removed of Judah that [are] in Babylon, saying, Jehovah doth set thee as Zedekiah, and as Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted with fire;
23 Hicieron cosas escandalosas en Israel: cometieron adulterio con las esposas de sus vecinos y dijeron mentiras en mi nombre. Yo no les dije que dijeran nada. Yo soy el que sabe lo que hicieron, y puedo dar testimonio de ello, declara el Señor.
Because that they have done folly in Israel, and commit adultery with the wives of their neighbours, and speak a word in My name falsely that I have not commanded them, and I [am] He who knoweth and a witness — an affirmation of Jehovah.
24 Dile a Semaías el nehelamita
'And unto Shemaiah the Nehelamite thou dost speak, saying,
25 que esto es lo que dice el Señor Todopoderoso, el Dios de Israel: Con tu propia autoridad enviaste cartas a todo el pueblo de Jerusalén, al sacerdote Sofonías, hijo de Maasías, y a todos los sacerdotes, diciendo:
Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, saying, Because that thou hast sent in thy name letters unto all the people who [are] in Jerusalem, and unto Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, and unto all the priests, saying,
26 “Sofonías, el Señor te ha elegido como sacerdote para reemplazar a Joiada, para estar a cargo del Templo del Señor. En calidad de tal, estás obligado a poner en el cepo y en los grilletes a cualquier loco que pretenda ser profeta.
Jehovah hath made thee priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, for there being inspectors of the house of Jehovah, for every one mad and making himself a prophet, and thou hast put him unto the torture and unto the stocks.
27 Entonces, ¿por qué no has castigado a Jeremías de Anatot, que dice ser profeta entre ustedes?
And now, why hast thou not pushed against Jeremiah of Anathoth, who is making himself a prophet to you?
28 Debiste haberlo hecho porque nos ha enviado una carta aquí en Babilonia, diciendo: ‘El exilio durará mucho tiempo. Así que construyan allí casas para vivir. Planten jardines y cultiven alimentos para comer’”.
Because that he hath sent unto us to Babylon, saying, It [is] long, build ye houses, and abide; and plant ye gardens, and eat their fruit.'
29 Sin embargo, el sacerdote Sofonías leyó esta carta al profeta Jeremías.
And Zephaniah the priest readeth this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.
30 Entonces el Señor le dijo a Jeremías
And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah, saying,
31 Envía este mensaje a todos los exiliados: Esto es lo que dice el Señor sobre Semaías el nehelamita. Ya que Semaías les ha profetizado, aunque yo no lo envié, y los ha convencido de creer en una mentira,
'Send unto all the removal, saying, Thus said Jehovah concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite, Because that Shemaiah prophesied to you, and I — I have not sent him, and he doth cause you to trust on falsehood,
32 esto es lo que dice el Señor: Voy a castigar a Semaías el nehelamita y a sus descendientes. No le quedará familia en este pueblo, y no experimentará las cosas buenas que voy a hacer por mi pueblo, declara el Señor, porque ha promovido la rebelión contra el Señor.
Therefore, thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am seeing after Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and after his seed, he hath none dwelling in the midst of this people, nor doth he look on the good that I am doing to My people — an affirmation of Jehovah — for apostasy he hath spoken against Jehovah.'
