Jeremías 24

1 El Señor me mostró en visión dos cestas de higos colocadas delante del Templo del Señor. Esto sucedió después de que Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, llevara a Babilonia a Joaquín, hijo de Joacim, rey de Judá, así como los dirigentes de Judá y los artesanos y metalúrgicos de Jerusalén.

Yahweh shewed me, and lo! two baskets of figs, which had been set before the temple of Yahweh, —after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive, Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah and the princes of Judah and the carpenters and the smiths out of Jerusalem, and had brought them into Babylon: —

2 Una cesta estaba llena de higos muy buenos, como los que maduran pronto, pero en la otra cesta sólo había higos muy malos, tan malos que no se podían comer.

the one basket, was of very good figs, like the first-ripe figs; and, the other basket, was of very bad figs, which could not be eaten for badness.

3 “Jeremías”, preguntó el Señor, “¿qué ves?” “¡Veo higos!” Respondí. “Los higos buenos parecen muy buenos, pero los higos malos parecen muy malos, tan malos que no se pueden comer”.

Then said Yahweh unto me, —What canst thou see, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs: the good figs, very good; and the bad, very bad, which cannot be eaten, for badness.

4 Entonces me llegó un mensaje del Señor, que decía:

Then came the word of Yahweh unto me, saying:

5 Esto es lo que dice el Señor, el Dios de Israel: Los higos buenos representan para mí a los exiliados de Judá, a los que he enviado de aquí al país de Babilonia.

Thus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, Like these good figs, so, will I regard them of Judah who are carried into captivity, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, for good.

6 Yo velaré por ellos y los haré volver a este país. Los edificaré y no los derribaré; los plantaré y no los desarraigaré.

Therefore will I set mine eye upon them for good, and will bring them back upon this land, —and will build them up, and not pull them down, and will plant them and not root them up;

7 Les daré el deseo de conocerme, de saber que yo soy el Señor. Serán mi pueblo, y yo seré su Dios, porque volverán a estar completamente comprometidos conmigo.

and will give them a heart to know, me, that, I, am Yahweh, So shall they become my people, And, I, will become their God; for they will return unto me with all their heart.

8 Pero los higos malos, tan malos que no se pueden comer, dice el Señor, representan la forma en que trataré a Sedequías, rey de Judá, a sus funcionarios y a los que quedan de Jerusalén, así como a los que quedan en este país y a los que viven en Egipto.

And like the bad figs, which cannot be eaten for badness, Surely thus, saith Yahweh—so, will I deliver up Zedekiah king of Judah, and his princes and the remnant of Jerusalem that remain in this land, and them who are dwelling in the land of Egypt;

9 Voy a hacer de ellos un ejemplo que horrorizará y ofenderá a todos en la tierra. Serán deshonrados, burlados, ridiculizados y maldecidos en todos los lugares a los que los he exiliado.

yea I will deliver them up, as a terror of calamity, to all the kingdoms of the earth, —as a reproach and as a byword, as a mockery and as a contempt, in every place whither I will drive them;

10 Voy a atacarlos con guerras, hambre y plagas, hasta que sean completamente eliminados del país que les di a ellos y a sus antepasados.

and I will send among them, sword famine and pestilence, —until they are consumed from off the soil which I gave to them and to their fathers.
