Isaías 38

1 Por aquel entonces Ezequías cayó muy enfermo y estaba a punto de morir. El profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, se dirigió a él y le dijo: “Esto es lo que dice el Señor: Pon en orden tus asuntos, porque vas a morir. No te recuperarás”.

In those days Hezekiah fell sick unto death; and there came unto him Isaiah the son of Amoz, the prophet, and said unto him, Thus hath said the Lord, Give thy charge to thy house; for thou shalt die, and not live.

2 Cuando Ezequías escuchó esto, fue a orar en privado al Señor, diciendo

Then did Hezekiah turn his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord.

3 “Por favor, recuerda Señor cómo te he seguido fielmente con todo mi corazón. He hecho lo que es bueno a tus ojos”. Entonces Ezequías gritó y lloró.

And he said, O Lord, I beseech thee remember now that I have walked before thee in truth, and with an undivided heart, and have done what is good in thy eyes. And Hezekiah wept aloud.

4 Entonces el Señor envió un mensaje a Isaías, diciendo:

Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying,

5 Ve y dile a Ezequías: Esto es lo que dice el Señor, el Dios de tu antepasado David: He escuchado tu oración, he visto tus lágrimas. Añadiré quince años a tu vida.

Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus hath said the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.

6 Te salvaré a ti y a esta ciudad del rey de Asiria. Defenderé esta ciudad.

And out of the hand of the king of Assyria will I deliver thee and this city; and I will shield this city.

7 Esta es la señal del Señor para ti, de que el Señor hará lo que prometió:

And this shall be unto thee the sign from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing which he hath spoken:

8 Mira, haré que la sombra hecha por el sol retroceda los diez escalones que ha bajado en la escalera de Acaz. Y el sol retrocedió los diez peldaños que había bajado en la escalera de Acaz.

Behold, I will cause the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down on the dial of Achaz by the sun, to return backward ten degrees. So the sun returned ten degrees, by the degrees which he was gone down.

9 Esto es lo que escribió Ezequías, rey de Judá, después de recuperarse de su enfermedad:

The writing of Hezekiah the king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness:

10 Me dije a mí mismo: “¿Tendré que ir a la muerte ahora que mi vida está bien? ¿Por qué no puedo contar con el resto de mis años?”. (Sheol h7585)

I had said, In the midst of my days, must I enter the gates of the nether world; I am deprived of the residue of my years. (Sheol h7585)

11 Dije: “No volveré a ver al Señor, el Señor, en la tierra de los vivos. No volveré a ver a nadie más, a ninguno de los habitantes de este mundo.

I had said, I shall not see the Lord, the Lord, in the land of the living: I shall not behold man any more among the inhabitants of the regions of death.

12 Como la tienda de un pastor, el lugar donde vivo ha sido arrancado y alejado de mí. Como un tejedor he enrollado la tela de mi vida y la he cortado del telar. Día y noche me llevan a su fin.

My dwelling is broken down, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent: I have cut off, like a weaver, my life; with pining sickness will he snatch me away: from day until night wilt thou make an end of me.

13 Me acuesto pacientemente hasta la mañana, pero siento como si un león rompiera cada hueso de mi cuerpo. Día y noche me llevas a mi fin.

I waited [with patience] till morning, [whether] as a lion, so would he break all my bones: from day until night wilt thou make an end of me.

14 Grito como un vencejo o un pájaro cantor, Gimo como una paloma. Mis ojos se oscurecen mientras miro al cielo. Me atacan, Señor, ¡ven y apóyame, por favor!

Like a swallow or a crane, so did I chirp; I did moan like a dove; my eyes were lifted up on high: O Lord, I am oppressed; grant me ease.

15 “Pero, ¿qué puedo decir? Él me dijo lo que iba a pasar, y él mismo lo hizo. Caminaré en silencio el resto de mi vida por la dolorosa experiencia que he vivido.

What shall I speak? he hath promised it unto me, and he hath also accomplished it; I will make pilgrimages [to God's house] all my years because of the bitterness of my soul.

16 Señor, vivimos de lo que tú dices y haces, y yo encuentro vida en todo esto. Me has devuelto la salud y me has permitido vivir.

O Lord, by these [things men] will live, and in all these [things] is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou give me health, and cause me to live.

17 Definitivamente fue por mi bien que pasé por esta amarga experiencia. Tú, en tu amor, me has salvado del pozo de la destrucción y has perdonado todos mis pecados.

Behold, for peace I had great bitterness; but thou hast, in loving my soul, delivered it from the pit of corruption; for thou hast cast behind thy back all my sins.

18 Los que están en la tumba no pueden alabarte, los muertos no pueden alabarte. Los que bajan a la fosa ya no pueden esperar en tu fidelidad. (Sheol h7585)

For the nether world will not thank thee, death will not praise thee: they that go down into the pit will not hope for thy truth. (Sheol h7585)

19 Sólo los vivos pueden alabarte como lo hago yo hoy. Los padres explican a sus hijos cómo se puede confiar en ti.

The living, the living alone shall thank thee, like me this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

20 ¡El Señor me ha salvado! Cantaremos mis canciones con instrumentos de cuerda todos los días de nuestra vida en el Templo del Señor”.

The Lord is there to help me; therefore we will play my hymns all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.

21 Isaías había dicho: “Prepara un apósito de higos y úntalo sobre las llagas de la piel para que se recupere”.

And Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the inflammation, and he shall recover.

22 Ezequías había preguntado: “¿Cuál es la señal que confirma que iré al Templo del Señor?”

And Hezekiah had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?
