Génesis 43

1 La hambruna continuó siendo muy grave en Canaán,

But the famine, was severe in the land.

2 así que una vez que se acabó el grano que habían traído de Egipto, su padre les dijo: “Tienen que volver y comprar más grano”.

So it came to pass when they had made an end of eating the corn which they had brought in out of Egypt, that their father said unto them, —Return buy for us a little food.

3 Pero Judá respondió: “El hombre fue firme cuando nos advirtió: ‘No los veré a menos que su hermano venga con ustedes’.

Then spake Judah unto him saying, —The man, did protest, to us saying—Ye shall not see my face, except, your brother, is with you.

4 Si envías a nuestro hermano Benjamín con nosotros, entonces iremos a comprar comida para ti.

If thou art sending our brother with us, we will certainly go down, and buy for thee food;

5 Pero si no lo envías, entonces no iremos, porque el hombre fue muy claro, ‘No los veré a menos que su hermano venga con ustedes’”.

but, if thou art not sending him, we will not go down, for the man, said unto us Ye shall not see my face, except, your brother, is with you.

6 “¿Por qué me hancomplicado las cosas al decirle al hombre que tenían otro hermano?” preguntó Israel.

And Israel said, Wherefore did ye ill to me, —to tell the man, there yet remained to you a brother?

7 “El hombre seguía haciendo preguntas directas sobre nosotros y nuestra familia, como: ‘¿Su padre sigue vivo?’ y ‘¿Tienen otro hermano?’” respondieron ellos. “Sólo respondimos a sus preguntas. ¿Cómo íbamos a saber que él diría, ‘¡Traigan a su hermano aquí!’”

And they said, The man, did ask, concerning ourselves and concerning our kindred saying—Is your father yet alive? Have ye a brother? So we told him according to the tenor of these words. Could we, at all know, that he would say, Bring down your brother?

8 Judá le dijo a su padre Israel: “Envía al muchacho bajo mi cuidado, y nos iremos inmediatamente, para que podamos seguir vivos y no morir, ¡y eso te incluye a ti, a nosotros y a nuestros hijos!

Then said Judah unto Israel his father—Come! send thou down the young man with me that we may arise and go our way, —and live and not die, both we and thou and our little ones.

9 Prometo cuidarlo y seré personalmente responsable de traerlo de vuelta a ti. ¡Si no lo hago, entonces cargaré siempre con la culpa!

I, will be surety for him, at my hand, shalt thou require him, —as surely as I bring him not in unto thee, and set him down before thee, so surely will I be counted a sinner against thee all the days,

10 Ahora vamos, porque si no hubiéramos dudado, ya podríamos haber ido y vuelto dos veces”.

For, if we had not lingered, surely now, had we come back here a second time.

11 “Si tiene que ser así, entonces esto es lo que harán”, respondió Israel. “Llévense lo mejor que produce nuestro país. Empaquen sus bolsas con regalos para este hombre: bálsamo, un poco de miel, especias, mirra, pistachos y almendras.

Then Israel their father said unto them—If so, then do this, —Take of the song of the land in your vessels, and carry down to the man a present, —A little balsam and a little honey, tragacanth gum and cistus gum, pistachio nuts, and almonds.

12 Lleven el doble del dinero que les han devuelto en tus sacos, tal vez fue un error.

And double silver, take in your hand, —also the silver that was put back in the mouth of your sacks, carry ye back in your hand, peradventure it was an error,

13 Tomen a su hermano y regresen de inmediato donde este hombre.

Your brother also, take ye, —and arise go again unto the man.

14 Que Dios Todopoderoso haga que este hombre los trate bien para que cuando se presenten ante él libere a su otro hermano y envíe a Benjamín de regreso. En cuanto a mí, si voy a perder a todos mis hijos, que así sea”.

And, God Almighty, give you compassion before the man, so shall he send with you, your other brother, and Benjamin. But, as for me, when I am bereaved, I am bereaved!

15 Así que empacaron los regalos, tomaron el doble de dinero y se fueron, acompañados por Benjamín. Llegaron a Egipto y fueron a tener una audiencia con José.

So the men took this present, double silver also, took they in their hand and Benjamin, —and arose and went down into Egypt, and stood before Joseph.

16 Cuando José vio que Benjamín estaba con ellos, le dijo al encargado de su casa: “Lleva a estos hombres a mi casa. Maten un animal y preparen una comida, porque van a comer conmigo al mediodía”.

And Joseph saw—with them—Benjamin, so he said to him that was over his house Bring the men into the house, —and slay meat and make ready, for with me, shall the men eat at noon.

17 El hombre hizo lo que le ordenó José y los llevó a la casa de José.

So the men did as Joseph had said, and the man brought the men into Joseph’s house,

18 Ellos estaban muy asustados de que los llevaran a la casa de José. “Es por el dinero que se estaba en nuestros sacos la primera vez que vinimos”, se dijeron entre ellos. “¡Por eso nos traen para acusarnos y atacarnos! ¡Nos convertirá en sus esclavos y se llevará nuestros asnos!”

Then were the men afraid because they had been brought into the house of Joseph, and they said—For the matter of the silver that came back in our sacks at the beginning, have, we, been brought in, —that he may turn round upon us and fall upon us, and take us for servants and our asses.

19 Así que fueron y hablaron con el supervisor de la casa de José en la entrada de la casa.

So they drew near unto the man that was over Joseph’s house, —and spake unto him at the entrance of the house;

20 “Por favor, discúlpenos, mi señor”, dijeron. “Bajamos la primera vez para comprar comida,

and said, May it please my lord! We, did indeed come down, at the beginning to buy food.

21 y cuando nos detuvimos para pasar la noche, abrimos nuestros sacos y cada uno de nosotros encontró su dinero, la cantidad exacta, en la parte superior de nuestros sacos. Así que lo trajimos de vuelta con nosotros.

And it came to pass when we had entered into the inn, that we opened our sacks, and lo! the silver of each man, in the mouth of his sack, —our silver in its full weight, —so we have bought it back in our hand!

22 También hemos traído más dinero para comprar comida. ¡No tenemos ni idea de quién puso nuestro dinero en nuestros sacos!”

And, more silver, have we brought down in our hand, to buy food, —we know not who put our silver in our sacks.

23 “¡Todo está bien!” les dijo. “¡No se preocupen! Su Dios, el Dios de su padre, debe haberles dado el tesoro escondido en sus sacos. Yo tengo su dinero”. Luego trajo a Simeón para que se encontrara con ellos.

And he said—Peace to you do not fear! Your God, and the God of your father, hath given you secret treasure, in your sacks, as for your silver, it came in unto me. And he brought forth unto them Simeon.

24 El mayordomo los llevó dentro de la casa de José, les dio agua para que se lavaran los pies, y les dio comida para sus asnos.

So the man brought the men into Joseph’s house, —and gave them water and they bathed their feet, and he gave them provender for their asses.

25 Prepararon sus regalos para cuando José viniera al mediodía, porque se habían enterado de que iban a comer allí.

And they made ready the present, against the coming in of Joseph at noon, —for they heard that it was there they should eat bread.

26 Cuando José llegó a la casa le dieron los regalos que le habían traído y se inclinaron hasta el suelo ante él.

So when Joseph came into the house, they brought in to him the present which was in their hand into the house, —and bowed themselves down to him to the earth.

27 José preguntó cómo estaban, y luego les preguntó: “¿Cómo está su anciano padre del cual me hablaron? ¿Sigue vivo?”

Then asked he after their welfare, and said—Is it well with your aged father, of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?

28 “Sí, tu siervo, nuestro padre, sigue vivo y está bien”, respondieron, y se inclinaron en señal de respeto.

And they said—It is well with thy servant our father, he is yet alive. And they bent their heads and bowed them-selves down.

29 Entonces José miró a su hermano Benjamín, el hijo de su propia madre. “¿Es este su hermano más joven del que me hablaron?” preguntó. “Dios sea misericordioso contigo, hijo mío”, dijo.

Then lifted he up his eyes, and saw Benjamin his brother son of his mother, and said—Is, this, your youngest brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God, grant thee favour my son!

30 José tuvo que salir corriendo rápidamente porque se estaba poniendo muy emotivo al ver a su hermano. Buscó un lugar para llorar, y se fue a su habitación para llorar allí.

And Joseph made haste for his compassions towards his brother were pent up, and he sought to weep, —so he went into the inner chamber and wept there,

31 Luego se lavó la cara, controló sus emociones y volvió a salir. “Sirvan la comida”, ordenó.

Then bathed he his face and came forth, —and restrained himself, and said Set on bread!

32 José fue servido en una mesa para él solo, y sus hermanos fueron servidos en una mesa separada. A los egipcios también se les sirvió en otra mesa, porque los egipcios no podrían comer con los hebreos, porque les resultaba repulsivo.

So they set on for him—by himself, and for them—by themselves, —and for the Egyptians that were eating with him—by themselves, for the Egyptians might not eat, bread, with the Hebrews for an abomination, had that been to Egyptians.

33 Los hermanos se habían sentado frente a él en orden de edad, desde el primogénito, el mayor, hasta el más joven, y se miraron con absoluta sorpresa.

So they took their seats before him, the firstborn, according to his birthright and the youngest, according to his youth, —and the men looked with amazement, each one at his companion.

34 La comida se les sirvió de la mesa de José, y Benjamín recibió cinco veces más que cualquier otro. Así que comieron y bebieron mucho con él.

And he sent portions from before him unto them, and the portion of Benjamin exceeded the portions of them all, five-fold. And they drank and made merry with him.
