Génesis 20

1 Abraham emprendió viaje hacia el Neguev, y se quedó entre Cades y Sur. Después se mudó y se fue a vivir a Gerar.

Afterward Abraham departed thence toward the South countrey and dwelled betweene Cadesh and Shur, and soiourned in Gerar.

2 Mientras vivía allí, cada vez que hablaba de Sara decía “Es mi hermana”. De modo que Abimelec, el rey de Gerar, mandó a llamar a Sara y la tomó para que fuera una de sus esposas.

And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister. Then Abimelech King of Gerar sent and tooke Sarah.

3 Pero Dios se le apareció a Abimelec en un sueño, y le dijo: “¡Presta atención! Morirás, porque la mujer que has tomado ya está casada. Ella tiene un esposo”.

But God came to Abimelech in a dreame by night, and said to him, Beholde, thou art but dead, because of the woman, which thou hast taken: for she is a mans wife.

4 Abimelec no había tocado a Sara, y preguntó: “Señor, ¿acaso tú matas a las personas buenas?

(Notwithstanding Abimelech had not yet come neere her) And he said, Lord, wilt thou slay euen the righteous nation?

5 ¿Acaso no me dijo el mismo Abraham ‘ella es mi hermana,’ y acaso no dijo ella misma ‘él es mi hermano’? ¡Hice esto siendo inocente y mi conciencia está limpia!”

Said not he vnto me, She is my sister? yea, and she her selfe said, He is my brother: with an vpright minde, and innocent handes haue I done this.

6 Dios le dijo en el sueño: “Sí, sé que hiciste esto con toda inocencia, y evité que pecaras contra mi. Por eso no permití que la tocaras.

And God saide vnto him by a dreame, I knowe that thou diddest this euen with an vpright minde, and I kept thee also that thou shouldest not sinne against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touche her.

7 Envía a esta mujer con su esposo. Él es un profeta, y orará por ti, y tú vivirás. Pero si no la envías de regreso, debes saber que tú y toda tu familia morirán”.

Now then deliuer the man his wife againe: for he is a Prophet, and he shall pray for thee that thou mayest liue: but if thou deliuer her not againe, be sure that thou shalt die the death, thou, and all that thou hast.

8 Abimelec se levantó temprano a la mañana siguiente y reunió a todos sus sirvientes. Les explicó lo ocurrido, y todos estaban aterrorizados.

Then Abimelech rising vp early in ye morning, called all his seruants, and tolde all these things vnto them, and the men were sore afraid.

9 Entonces Abimelec mandó a llamar a Abraham y le preguntó: “¿Qué has venido a hacernos? ¿Qué mal te he hecho para que me trates de esta manera, trayendo este pecado terrible sobre mi y mi reino? ¡Has hecho cosas que nadie debería hacer!”

Afterward Abimelech called Abraham, and said vnto him, What hast thou done vnto vs? and what haue I offeded thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdome this great sinne? thou hast done things vnto me that ought not to be done.

10 Y Abimelec le preguntó a Abraham: “¿En qué estabas pensando cuando hiciste esto?”

So Abimelech said vnto Abraham, What sawest thou that thou hast done this thing?

11 “Pues yo dije para mí: ‘Nadie respeta a Dios en este lugar. Me matarán para quedarse con mi esposa,’” respondió Abraham.

Then Abraham answered, Because I thought thus, Surely the feare of God is not in this place, and they will slay me for my wiues sake.

12 “De cualquier modo, ella es mi hermana, porque es la hija de mi padre, pero no de mi madre, y yo me casé con ella.

Yet in very deede she is my sister: for she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she is my wife.

13 Ya que Dios me hizo dejar a mi familia, le dije: ‘Si de verdad me amas, dondequiera que vayas conmigo dirás: Él es mi hermano’”.

Nowe when God caused me to wander out of my fathers house, I said then to her, This is thy kindnes that thou shalt shewe vnto me in all places where we come, Say thou of me, He is my brother.

14 Entonces Abimelec le dio a Abraham regalos de ovejas, rebaños, esclavos y esclavas, y le devolvió a Sara.

Then tooke Abimelech sheepe and beeues, and men seruants, and women seruants, and gaue them vnto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.

15 Y le dijo: “Contempla mi tierra, y elige dónde quieres vivir”.

And Abimelech saide, Beholde, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.

16 Y a Sara le dijo: “Ten en cuenta que le he dado a tu esposo mil piezas de plata. Esto es para compensar el mal que te hemos hecho ante los ojos de los que estaban contigo, y para que tu nombre quede limpio ante todos los demás”.

Likewise to Sarah he said, Beholde, I haue giuen thy brother a thousand pieces of siluer: behold, he is the vaile of thine eyes to all that are with thee, and to all others: and she was thus reproued.

17 Entonces Abraham oró a Dios, y Dios sanó a Abimelec ya su esposa; y también sanó a sus esclavas, a fin de que nuevamente pudieran engendrar hijos.

Then Abraham prayed vnto God, and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his women seruants: and they bare children.

18 Porque el Señor había hecho que las mujeres fueran infértiles porque se habían llevado a Sara, la esposa de Abraham.

For the Lord had shut vp euery wombe of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abrahams wife.
