Esdras 10
1 Mientras Esdras oraba y confesaba sus pecados, llorando y cayendo de bruces ante el Templo de Dios, una gran multitud de israelitas, hombres, mujeres y niños, se reunió a su alrededor. El pueblo también lloraba amargamente.
Now when 'Ezra prayed, and when he made his confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there gathered themselves unto him out of Israel a very large assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept exceedingly much.
2 Secanías, hijo de Jehiel, un elamita, dijo a Esdras: “Sí, hemos sido infieles a nuestro Dios porque nos hemos casado con mujeres extranjeras de los pueblos de la tierra. Pero aun así, todavía hay esperanza para Israel en cuanto a esto.
Thereupon commenced Shechanyah the son of Jechiel, of the sons of 'Elam, and said unto 'Ezra, we have indeed trespassed against our God, and have brought home strange wives of the nations of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.
3 Hagamos un acuerdo solemne ahora mismo ante nuestro Dios de que despediremos a todas las esposas extranjeras y a sus hijos. Seguiremos las instrucciones dadas por ti y por los que respetan las instrucciones de nuestro Dios, llevadas a cabo de acuerdo con la Ley.
And now let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the direction of the Lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God: and let it be done according to the law.
4 ¡Haz algo! Porque es tu responsabilidad. Estamos contigo. Sé valiente y hazlo”.
Arise; for this matter is obligatory upon thee; and we will be with thee: be strong, and do it.
5 Entonces Esdras se puso de pie e hizo que los principales sacerdotes, los levitas y todos los israelitas presentes prestaran juramento de actuar conforme a lo que se acababa de decir. Todos hicieron el juramento.
Then arose 'Ezra, and caused the princes of the priests, the Levites, and of all Israel, to swear to do according to this word. And they swore.
6 Entonces Esdras los dejó frente al Templo de Dios y se dirigió a la habitación de Johanán, hijo de Eliasib. Durante el tiempo que permaneció allí, no comió ni bebió nada, porque seguía lamentando la infidelidad de los exiliados.
Then arose 'Ezra from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jochanan the son of Elyashib; and he went thither without having eaten bread, or having drunk water; for he was mourning because of the trespass of the exiles.
7 Entonces se emitió una proclama en todo Judá y Jerusalén para que todos los exiliados se reunieran en Jerusalén.
And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the exile, to gather themselves together at Jerusalem;
8 Al que no viniera en el plazo de tres días se le confiscarían todos sus bienes y se le prohibiría participar en la asamblea de los exiliados. Esta fue la decisión de los líderes y de los ancianos.
And that whosoever should not come within three days, according to the resolve of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be devoted, and himself separated from the congregation of the exiles.
9 A los tres días, todos los de Judá y Benjamín se reunieron en Jerusalén. El vigésimo día del noveno mes, todo el pueblo se sentó en la plaza junto al Templo de Dios, temblando por este asunto y también por la fuerte lluvia.
Then were all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered together unto Jerusalem within three days: it was in the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the open place before the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and by reason of the showers of rain.
10 El sacerdote Esdras se levantó y les dijo: “Ustedes han cometido un pecado al casarse con mujeres extranjeras, agravando aún más la culpa de Israel.
And 'Ezra the priest rose up, and said unto them, Ye have acted unfaithfully, and have brought home strange wives, to increase yet more the guiltiness of Israel.
11 Ahora deben confesar su pecado al Señor, el Dios de sus antepasados, y hacer lo que él les pide. Corta tus vínculos con la gente de la tierra y con tus esposas extranjeras”.
Now therefore make confession unto the Lord the God of your fathers, and do his will; and separate yourselves from the nations of the earth, and from the strange wives.
12 Toda la asamblea respondió en voz alta: “¡Estamos de acuerdo y prometemos hacer lo que dices!
Then answered all the assembly and said with a loud voice, So be it: according to thy word it is our duty to do.
13 Pero hay mucha gente aquí, y está lloviendo a cántaros. No podemos quedarnos fuera. Más aún, esto no es algo que se pueda arreglar en uno o dos días, pues hemos pecado gravemente en esto.
But the people are many, and it is the rainy season, and we have not the strength to remain in the street, nor is this a work for one day or for two days; for we are many that have transgressed in this matter.
14 Que nuestros líderes actúen en nombre de toda la asamblea. Entonces, que cada hombre de cada una de nuestras ciudades que se haya casado con una mujer extranjera reciba una cita para venir a reunirse, junto con los ancianos y los jueces de esa ciudad, hasta que nuestro Dios deje de estar enojado con nosotros por esto”.
Let however our princes stand forward for all the congregation, and let all those in our cities who have brought home strange wives come at appointed times, and with them the elders of each and every city, and its judges, until the fierce wrath of our God be turned away from us for this whole matter.
15 Los únicos que se opusieron a esto fueron Jonatán, hijo de Asahel, y Jahzeías, hijo de Ticva, apoyados por Mesulam y el levita Sabetai.
Only Jonathan the son of 'Assahel and Jachzeyah the son of Thikvah withstood this [proposal]: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite assisted them.
16 Esto fue lo que hicieron los exiliados, seleccionando al sacerdote Esdras y a los jefes de familia, según sus divisiones familiares, todos ellos nombrados específicamente. El primer día del décimo mes se sentaron para comenzar la investigación,
And the children of the exile did so. And then were set apart 'Ezra the priest, [and] certain chiefs of the divisions, for their family divisions, and all of them [designated] by their names; and they sat down on the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.
17 y para el primer día del primer mes habían terminado de tratar todos los casos de hombres que se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras.
And they made an end with all, with the men that had brought home strange wives, not before the first day of the first month.
18 Entre los descendientes de los sacerdotes, los siguientes se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras: de los hijos de Jesúa hijo de Josadac, y de sus hermanos Maasías, Eliezer, Jarib y Gedalías.
And there were found among the sons of the priests that had brought home strange wives, namely, of the sons of Jeshua' the son of Jozadak, and his brethren: Ma'asseyah, and Eli'ezer, and Jarib, and Gedalyah.
19 Hicieron voto de despedir a sus mujeres, y presentaron un carnero del rebaño como ofrenda por su culpa.
And they gave their hand to put away their wives, and being guilty, [they offered] a ram of the flock for their trespass.
20 De los hijos de Imer: Hanani y Zebadías.
And of the sons of Immer: Chanani, and Zebadyah.
21 De los hijos de Harim Maasías, Elías, Semaías, Jehiel y Uzías.
And of the sons of Charim: Ma'asseyah, and Elijah, and Shema'yah, and Jechiel, and 'Uzziyah.
22 De los hijos de Pasur Elioenai, Maasías, Ismael, Natanael, Jozabad y Elasa.
And of the sons of Pashchur: Elyo'enai, Ma'asseyah. Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and El'assah.
23 De los levitas: Jozabad, Simei, Kelaía (o Kelita), Petaías, Judá y Eliezer.
Also of the Levites: Jozabad, and Shim'i, and Kelayan, the same is Kelita, Pethachyah, Judah, and Eli'ezer.
24 Entre los cantores: Eliasib. Entre los porteros: Salum, Telem y Uri.
And of the singers, Elyashib; and of the gate-keepers, Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.
25 Entre los israelitas: De los hijos de Paros: Ramía, Jezías, Malquías, Mijamín, Eleazar, Hasabías, y Benaía.
And of Israel: Of the sons of Par'osh, Ramyah, and Yizziyah, and Malkiyah, and Miyamin, and El'azar, and Malkiyah, and Benayah.
26 De los hijos de Elam: Matanías, Zacarías, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremot y Elías.
And of the sons of 'Elam; Matthanyah, Zecharyah, and Jechiel, and 'Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Eliyah.
27 De los hijos de Zatu: Elioenai, Eliasib, Matanías, Jeremot, Zabad y Aziza.
And of the sons of Zatthu: Elyo'enai, Elyashib, Matthanyah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and 'Aziza.
28 De los hijos de Bebai Johanán, Ananías, Zabai y Atlai.
And of the sons of Bebai: Jehochanan, Chananyah, Zabbai, and 'Athlai.
29 De los hijos de Bani Mesulam, Maluc, Adaía, Jasub, Seal y Jeremot.
And of the sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, and 'Adayah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth.
30 De los hijos de Pahat-moab Adna, Quelal, Benaías, Maasías, Matanías, Bezaleel, Binui y Manasés.
And of the sons of Pachath-moab: 'Adna, and Kelal, Benayah, Ma'asseyah, Matthanyah, Bezalel, and Binnui, and Menasseh.
31 De los hijos de Harim Eliezer, Isías, Malquías, Semaías, Simeón,
And of the sons of Charim: Eli'ezer, Yishiyah, Malkiyah, Shema'yah, Shim'on,
32 Benjamín, Maluc y Semarías.
Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemaryah.
33 De los hijos de Hasum Matenai, Matata, Zabad, Elifelet, Jeremai, Manasés y Simei.
Of the sons of Chashum: Matthenai, Matthathah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Menasseh, and Shim'i.
34 De los hijos de Baní Madai, Amram, Uel,
Of the sons of Bani: Ma'adai, 'Amram, and Uel,
35 Benaías, Bedías, Quelúhi,
Benayah, Bedeyah, Keluhu,
36 Vanías, Meremot, Eliasib,
Vanyah, Meremoth, Elyashib,
37 Matanías, Matenai y Jaasai.
Matthanyah, Matthenai, and Ja'assai,
38 De los hijos de Binui: Simei,
And Bani, and Binnui, and Shim'i,
39 Selemías, Natán, Adaía,
And Shelemyah, and Nathan, and 'Adayah,
40 Macnadebai, Shashai, Sharai,
Machnadbai, Shashai, Sharai,
41 Azarel, Selemías, Semarías,
'Asar'el, and Shelemyahu, Shemaryah,
42 Salum, Amarías y José.
Shallum, Amaryah, and Joseph.
43 De los hijos de Nebo: Jeiel, Matatías, Zabad, Zebina, Jadau, Joel y Benaías.
Of the sons of Nebo: Je'iel, Matthithyah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, and Joel, Benayah.
44 Todos estos hombres mencionados se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras. Se divorciaron de ellas y las despidieron con sus hijos.
All these had taken strange wives; and some of them had wives by whom they had children.
