Eclesiastés 9
1 Tuve en cuenta todo esto en mi mente. Las personas sabias y buenas y todo lo que hacen están en manos de Dios. El amor o el odio, quién sabe lo que les sucederá?
For I gave my mind to all this, even to search out all this, that the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God, and yet neither his love nor hatred doth any man know. All is before them.
2 Sin embargo, todos compartimos el mismo destino: los que hacen el bien, los que hacen el mal, los buenos, los creyentes religiosos y los que no lo son, los que se sacrifican y los que no. Los que hacen el bien son como los que pecan, los que hacen votos a Dios son como los que no los hacen.
All [[cometh to them]] as to all. There is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good, to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not; as is the good, so is the sinner; he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
3 Esto está muy mal: ¡que todos aquí en la tierra sufran el mismo destino! Además, la mente de la gente está llena de maldad. Se pasan la vida pensando en estupideces, y luego se mueren.
This is an evil among all things which take place under the sun, that there is one event to all; therefore also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and afterward they go down to the dead.
4 Pero los vivos aún tienen esperanza: ¡un perro vivo es mejor que un león muerto!
For who is there that is excepted? With all the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
5 Los vivos son conscientes de que van a morir, pero los muertos no tienen conciencia de nada. No reciben ningún otro beneficio; están olvidados.
For the living know that they shall die; but the dead know not any thing, and there is no more to them any advantage, for their memory is forgotten.
6 Su amor, su odio y su envidia, todo ha desaparecido. No tienen más participación en nada de lo que ocurre aquí en la tierra.
Their love also, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they a portion any more for ever in any thing which taketh place under the sun.
7 Así que adelante, coman su comida y disfrútenla. Bebe tu vino con un corazón feliz. Eso es lo que Dios quiere que hagas.
Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a cheerful heart; for long since hath God been pleased with thy works.
8 Ponte siempre ropa elegante y ten buen aspecto.
Let thy garments be always white, and let not fragrant oil be wanting upon thy head.
9 Disfruta de la vida con la esposa que amas -la que Dios te dio- durante todos los días de esta breve vida, todos estos días que pasan y cuyo significado es tan difícil de entender mientras trabajas aquí en la tierra.
Enjoy life with the wife whom thou lovest, all the days of thy vain life which he hath given thee under the sun, all thy vain days. For this is thy portion in life, and in thy labor with which thou weariest thyself under the sun.
10 Todo lo que hagas, hazlo con todas tus fuerzas, porque cuando vayas a la tumba ya no habrá trabajo ni pensamiento, ni conocimiento ni sabiduría. (Sheol h7585)
Whatever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might! For there is no work nor device nor knowledge nor wisdom in the under-world, whither thou goest. (Sheol h7585)
11 Pensé en otras cosas que ocurren aquí en la tierra. Las carreras no siempre las gana el más rápido. Las batallas no siempre las decide el guerrero más fuerte. Además, los sabios no siempre tienen comida, las personas inteligentes no siempre ganan dinero, y los astutos no siempre ganan el favor. El tiempo y el azar afectan a todos ellos.
I turned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor yet bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of knowledge; but time and chance happen to them all.
12 No puedes predecir cuándo será tu final vendrá. Al igual que los peces atrapados en una red, o los pájaros atrapados en una trampa, así las personas son atrapadas repentinamente por la muerte cuando menos lo esperan.
For man knoweth not his time. As fishes that are taken in a destructive net, and as birds that are caught in a snare, so are the sons of men snared in a time of distress, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
13 He aquí otro aspecto de la sabiduría que me impresionó sobre lo que ocurre aquí en la tierra.
This also have I seen; even wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great to me.
14 Había una vez una pequeña ciudad con pocos habitantes. Llegó un rey poderoso y sitió la ciudad, construyendo grandes rampas de tierra contra sus muros.
There was a little city, and few men within it; and a great king came against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it.
15 En aquella ciudad vivía un hombre sabio, pero pobre. Salvó a la ciudad con su sabiduría. Pero nadie se acordó de darle las gracias ese pobre hombre.
Now there was found within it a wise poor man; and he, by his wisdom, delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
16 Como siempre he dicho: “La sabiduría es mejor que la fuerza”. Sin embargo, la sabiduría de ese pobre hombre fue desestimada: la gente no prestó atención a lo que decía.
Then said I, “Wisdom is better than strength;” and yet the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.
17 Es mejor escuchar las palabras tranquilas de un sabio que los gritos de un gobernante de insensatos.
The quiet words of the wise are sooner heard than the shouting of a foolish ruler.
18 Es mejor tener sabiduría que armas de guerra; pero un pecador puede destruir mucho bien.
Wisdom is better than weapons of war. But one offender destroyeth much good.
