Eclesiastés 5
1 Ten cuidado cuando entres en la casa de Dios. Es mejor escuchar y responder en lugar de ofrecer sacrificios sin sentido. La gente que hace tal cosa ni siquiera sabe que está actuando mal.
Guard thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be ready to hearken: it is better than when fools give sacrifices; for they know not that they do evil.
2 No te precipites, y piensa antes de hablar con Dios. Porque Dios está en el cielo y tú en la tierra, así que sé breve.
Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter a word before God; for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth; therefore let thy words be few.
3 Cuando te preocupas demasiado, tienes pesadillas; cuando hablas demasiado, dices tonterías.
For a dream cometh through a multitude of business; and a fool's voice through a multitude of words.
4 Cuando haces un voto a Dios, con una maldición sobre ti si no lo cumples, no te demores en cumplirlo, pues no le agrada el comportamiento insensato. Así que cumple lo que has prometido.
When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for He hath no pleasure in fools; pay that which thou vowest.
5 Más vale no hacer ningún voto que hacer un voto que no se cumpla.
Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.
6 No dejes que tu boca te haga pecar. Y no le digas al sacerdote que tu voto fue un error, pues ¿por qué enemistarte con Dios rompiendo tu promesa? Podría hacer caer sobre ti tu propia maldición.
Suffer not thy mouth to bring thy flesh into guilt, neither say thou before the messenger, that it was an error; wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?
7 Ciertamente hay muchos sueños, preguntas sobre su significado y muchas ideas diferentes, pero tú debes seguir a Dios.
For through the multitude of dreams and vanities there are also many words; but fear thou God.
8 Si ves gente pobre en algún lugar siendo oprimida, o la verdad y la justicia violada, no te escandalices por ello, porque cada funcionario es responsable ante otros más altos, y hay funcionarios por encima de ellos también.
If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and the violent perverting of justice and righteousness in the state, marvel not at the matter; for one higher than the high watcheth, and there are higher than they.
9 Sin embargo, lo que la tierra produce es para todos, incluso el rey se beneficia de lo que se cultiva.
But the profit of a land every way is a king that maketh himself servant to the field.
10 La gente que ama el dinero nunca tiene suficiente dinero; los que aman la riqueza nunca tienen suficientes ingresos. Esto también es muy temporal y tiene poco sentido.
He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance, with increase; this also is vanity.
11 Cuanto más ganas, más gastos tienes. ¡Sólo pareciera que tuvieras más!
When goods increase, they are increased that eat them; and what advantage is there to the owner thereof, saving the beholding of them with his eyes?
12 Los que trabajan duro duermen bien, tengan poco o mucho que comer, pero los ricos poseen tanto que no descansan.
Sweet is the sleep of a labouring man, whether he eat little or much; but the satiety of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
13 Aquí he observado algo que es realmente enfermizo: Las personas que acumulan dinero se perjudican a sí mismas.
There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept by the owner thereof to his hurt;
14 Ponen su dinero en malas inversiones y lo pierden todo. Cuando nacemos, no traemos nada al mundo.
and those riches perish by evil adventure; and if he hath begotten a son, there is nothing in his hand.
15 Cuando morimos, nos vamos tan desnudos como cuando nacimos, sin llevarnos nada de todo lo que hemos trabajado.
As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he go back as he came, and shall take nothing for his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.
16 ¡Esto también me enferma! ¿Qué gana la gente, trabajando para el viento?
And this also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go; and what profit hath he that he laboureth for the wind?
17 Viven su vida en la oscuridad, muy frustrados, enfermos y resentidos.
All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much vexation and sickness and wrath.
18 Pero yo observé que lo bueno y lo correcto es comer, beber y hallar placer en el trabajo que Dios nos da aquí en esta vida. Este es el regalo de Dios para nosotros.
Behold that which I have seen: it is good, yea, it is comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy pleasure for all his labour, wherein he laboureth under the sun, all the days of his life which God hath given him; for this is his portion.
19 Además, a todos los que Dios les da riquezas y posesiones, les da también la capacidad de disfrutar de estos dones, de estar agradecidos por lo que se les da y de disfrutar del trabajo que hacen. Esto también es un regalo de Dios para nosotros.
Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour — this is the gift of God.
20 De hecho, estas personas tienen poco tiempo para pensar en la vida porque Dios las mantiene ocupadas con todo lo que las hace felices.
For let him remember the days of his life that they are not many; for God answereth him in the joy of his heart.
