Eclesiastés 10
1 Las moscas muertas pueden hacer que el aceite perfumado huela mal. Del mismo modo, un poco de insensatez supera a la gran sabiduría y al honor.
Dead flies cause the precious oil of the apothecary to become stinking and foaming; so doth a little folly him that is valued for wisdom and honor.
2 La mente del sabio elige el lado correcto, pero la mente del insensato va hacia la izquierda.
The heart of a wise man is at his right hand; but the heart of a fool is at his left.
3 Sólo la forma en que los necios andan por el camino demuestra que no tienen sentido común, dejando en claro a todos su estupidez.
Yea also, on whatever way the fool walketh, doth he lack proper sense, and he saith to all that he is a fool.
4 Si tu superior se enfada contigo, no te rindas y te vayas. Si mantienes la calma, incluso los errores graves pueden resolverse.
If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for submissiveness causeth great offences to be avoided.
5 También me di cuenta de que hay otro mal aquí en la tierra: los gobernantes cometen un gran error
There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, like an error which proceedeth from the ruler:
6 cuando ponen a los tontos en altos cargos, mientras que los que están ampliamente cualificados son puestos en posiciones bajas.
Folly is set in great high places, and the rich sit in lowness.
7 He visto a esclavos montando a caballo, mientras los príncipes caminan por el suelo como esclavos.
I have seen servants on horses, and princes walking like servants upon the ground.—
8 Si cavas un pozo, puedes caerte dentro. Si derribas un muro, te puede morder una serpiente.
He that diggeth a pit will fall into it; and him who breaketh down a fence—a serpent will bite him.
9 Si extraes piedra, puedes lesionarte. Si partes troncos, podrías herirte.
Whoso removeth stones will be hurt through them; and he that cleaveth wood will be endangered thereby.
10 Si tu hacha está desafilada y no la afilas, tienes que usar mucha más fuerza. Conclusión: ser sabio trae buenos resultados.
If the iron be blunt, and man do not whet the edge, then must he exert more strength; but the advantage of making it properly sharp is wisdom.
11 Si la serpiente muerde al encantador de serpientes antes de ser encantada, ¡no hay beneficio para el encantador de serpientes!
If the serpent do bite because no one uttered a charm, then hath the man that can use his tongue [in charming] no preference.—
12 Las palabras sabias son beneficiosas, pero los necios se destruyen a sí mismos con lo que dicen.
The words of a wise man's mouth [bring] grace; but the lips of a fool will destroy himself.
13 Los insensatos comienzan diciendo tonterías y terminan diciendo tonterías perversas.
The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness; and the last that cometh out of his mouth is evil-bringing madness.
14 Los insensatos no paran de hablar, pero nadie sabe lo que va a pasar, así que ¿quién puede decir lo que depara el futuro?
The fool also multiplieth words; [but] a man cannot know what is to be; and what is to be after him, who can tell him?
15 El trabajo hace que los insensatos se desgasten tanto que no pueden lograr nada.
The toil of the foolish will weary every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.—
16 Estás en problemas si el rey de tu país es joven, y si tus líderes están ocupados festejando desde la mañana.
Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is lowminded, and when thy princes eat in the morning!
17 Tienes suerte si tu rey viene de una familia noble, y si tus líderes festejan a la hora apropiada para darse energía, y no para emborracharse.
Happy art thou, O land, when thy king is noble-spirited, and thy princes eat in proper time, for strengthening, and not for gluttony!—
18 La gente perezosa deja que sus techos se derrumben; la gente ociosa no repara sus casas con goteras.
Through slothful hands the rafters will sink; and through idleness of the hands the house will become leaky.
19 Una buena comida trae placer; el vino hace la vida agradable; el dinero cubre todas las necesidades.
For gay pleasure they prepare a feast, and wine is to make the living joyful; but money procureth all things.
20 No hables mal del rey, ni siquiera en tus pensamientos. No hables mal de los dirigentes, incluso en la intimidad de tu habitación. Un pájaro puede oír lo que dices y salir volando para contarles.
Even in thy thought thou must not curse a king; and in thy bed-chambers do not curse the rich; for a bird of the air can carry the sound, and that which hath wings can tell the word.
