Deuteronomio 3
1 Salimos y subimos por la carretera hacia Basán. Entonces Og, el rey de Basán, y todo su ejército salieron a luchar contra nosotros en Edrei.
“And so, having turned back, we ascended by the way of Bashan. And Og, the king of Bashan, went forth with his people to meet us in warfare at Edrei.
2 Pero el Señor me dijo: “No le tengas miedo, porque te lo he entregado junto con todo su pueblo y su tierra. Trátalo como a Sehón, el rey de los amorreos, que gobernó en Hesbón”.
And the Lord said to me: ‘You should not fear him. For he has been delivered into your hand, with all his people as well as his land. And you shall do to him just as you have done to Sihon, the king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.’
3 El Señor nuestro Dios nos entregó a Og, rey de Basán, y a todo su ejército. Los matamos y no dejamos sobrevivientes.
Therefore, the Lord our God delivered into our hands, now Og, the king of Bashan, and all his people. And we struck them down unto utter annihilation,
4 También capturamos todos sus pueblos. No hubo un solo pueblo entre los sesenta que no pudiéramos capturar. Incluso toda la región de Argob, el reino de Og en Basán.
laying waste to all his cities at one time. There was not a village which escaped from us: sixty cities, the entire region of Argob, the kingdom of Og, in Bashan.
5 Todas estas ciudades estaban fortificadas con altos muros y puertas con barrotes. Había muchos más pueblos también, los que no tenían murallas.
All the cities were fortified with very high walls, and with gates and bars, in addition to innumerable villages which had no walls.
6 Las separamos para su destrucción, como hicimos con Sehón, rey de Hesbón, matando a todos los hombres, mujeres y niños de cada ciudad.
And we wiped them out, just as we had done to Sihon, the king of Heshbon, destroying every city, and its men, as well as women and children.
7 Pero tomamos para nosotros todo el ganado y el botín de las ciudades.
But the cattle and the spoils of the cities, we plundered.
8 Así que en resumen, en ese momento tomamos de los dos reyes amorreos la tierra al Este del Jordán, desde el valle de Arnón hasta el Monte Hermón.
And at that time, we took the land from the hand of the two kings of the Amorites, who were across the Jordan: from the torrent Arnon as far as Mount Hermon,
9 (El Monte Hermón es llamado Sirión por los sidonios y Senir por los amorreos).
which the Sidonians call Sirion, and the Amorites call Senir,
10 El área incluía todas las ciudades de la llanura, todo Galaad y todo Basán, incluyendo las ciudades de Salcá y Edrei, en el reino de Og.
all the cities that are situated in the plain, and the entire land of Gilead and Bashan, all the way to Salecah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
11 (Sólo Og, rey de Basán, quedó de la raza de los Refaim. Tenía una cama de hierro de nueve codos de largo y cuatro de ancho. Todavía está en la ciudad amonita de Rabá).
For only Og, the king of Bashan, was left behind out of the race of the giants. His bed of iron is on display, (it is in Rabbah, among the sons of Ammon) being nine cubits in length, and four in width, according to the measure of the cubit of a man’s hand.
12 Fue entonces cuando nos hicimos cargo de la tierra. Asigné a las tribus de Rubén y Gad la tierra al norte del pueblo de Aroer en el valle del Arnón, y la mitad de la región montañosa de Galaad, junto con sus pueblos.
And we possessed the land, at that time, from Aroer, which is above the bank of the torrent Arnon, as far as the middle of Mount Gilead. And I gave its cities to Ruben and Gad.
13 Asigné a la media tribu de Manasés el resto de Galaad, y todo Basán, el reino de Og. (Toda la región de Argob, todo el territorio de Basán, se llamaba antiguamente la tierra de los Refaim).
Then I delivered the remaining part of Gilead, and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, which is the entire region of Argob, to one half of the tribe of Manasseh. And all of Bashan is called the land of the giants.
14 Jair, descendiente de Manasés, se apoderó de toda la región de Argob hasta la frontera de los geshuritas y maacathitas y cambió el nombre de Basán por el de Havvoth-jair poniéndole su propio nombre, que sigue siendo su nombre hasta el día de hoy.
Jair, the son of Manasseh, possessed all the region of Argob, as far as the borders of Geshur and Maacath. And he called Bashan by his own name, Havvoth Jair, that is, the villages of Jair, even to the present day.
15 Asigné el resto de Galaad to the descendants of Maquir,
Likewise, to Machir, I gave Gilead.
16 mientras que yo asigné a las tribus de Rubén y Gad el área desde Galaad hasta el Valle de Arnón, siendo la línea fronteriza el centro del valle, hasta el río Jaboc en la frontera amonita.
And to the tribes of Ruben and Gad, I gave from the land of Gilead as far as the torrent Arnon, one half of the torrent and its confines, even to the torrent Jabbok, which is along the border of the sons of Ammon,
17 El río Jordán en la Arabá lo bordeaba por el Oeste, desde el Mar de Galilea hasta el Mar de la Arabá (el Mar Muerto). Al Este se encontraban las laderas de la cordillera del Pisga.
and the plain of the wilderness, as well as the Jordan, and the borders of Chinnereth, all the way to the sea of the desert, which is very salty, to the base of Mount Pisgah toward the east.
18 Fue entonces cuando les di estas instrucciones: “El Señor su Dios les ha dado este país como suyo para que lo posean. Todos sus guerreros deben cruzar, listos para la batalla, guiando a sus compañeros israelitas.
And I instructed you at that time, saying: ‘The Lord your God gives to you this land as an inheritance. Having armed yourselves, go before your brothers, the sons of Israel, all you strong men.
19 Sin embargo, sus mujeres, sus hijos y sus ganados (sé que tienen mucho ganado) pueden quedarse en las ciudades que les he dado,
Leave behind your wives and little ones, as well as the cattle. For I know that you have many cattle, and they should remain in the cities which I have delivered to you,
20 hasta que el Señor le dé la victoria a sus hermanos israelitas y tengan paz, como la tienen ustedes, después de apoderarse de la tierra que el Señor les da al otro lado del Jordán. Entonces todos podrán volver a la tierra que les he dado para que la posean”.
until the Lord provides rest to your brothers, just as he has provided for you. And they, too, shall possess the land, which he will give to them beyond the Jordan. Then each one shall return to his possession, which I have allotted to you.’
21 Esta fue la vez que le ordené a Josué: “Has visto con tus propios ojos todo lo que el Señor tu Dios hizo a estos dos reyes. El Señor hará lo mismo con todos los reinos a los que vas.
Likewise, I instructed Joshua at that time, saying: ‘Your eyes have seen what the Lord your God has done to these two kings. So also will he do to all the kingdoms through which you shall pass.
22 No tengas miedo de ellos, porque el Señor tu Dios mismo estará luchando a tu lado”.
You should not fear them. For the Lord your God will fight on your behalf.’
23 Este fue también el momento en que supliqué al Señor, diciendo,
And I beseeched the Lord at that time, saying:
24 “Señor Dios, apenas has empezado a mostrar tu poder y tu grandeza a mí, tu siervo. ¿Qué dios en el cielo o en la tierra tiene la increíble habilidad de hacer los actos poderosos que tú haces?
‘Lord God, you have begun to reveal your greatness and your very strong hand to your servant. For there is no other god, either in heaven or on earth, who is able to accomplish your works, or to be compared to your strength.
25 Por favor, déjame cruzar el Jordán y ver la buena tierra de allí, las hermosas colinas y las montañas del Líbano!”
Therefore, I will cross over, and I will view this excellent land beyond the Jordan, and this singular mountain, and Lebanon.’
26 Pero el Señor se enfadó conmigo por culpa de ustedes y se negó a escucharme. “Ya basta”, me dijo. “No me hables más de esto.
And the Lord became angry with me because of you, and he would not heed me. But he said to me: ‘It is enough for you. You shall no longer speak to me at all about this matter.
27 Sube a la cima del monte y mira al Oeste, al norte, al sur y al Este. Contempla la tierra con tus propios ojos, porque no vas a cruzar este Jordán.
Ascend to the summit of Pisgah, and look around with your eyes to the west, and to the north, and to the south, and to the east, and behold it. For you shall not cross this Jordan.
28 En vez de eso, pon a Josué a cargo porque es él quien cruzará, guiando al pueblo y ayudándoles a apoderarse de la tierra que ves. Anímalo y apóyalo”.
Instruct Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him. For he shall go before this people, and he shall distribute to them the land that you will see.’
29 Así que nos quedamos allí en el valle cerca de Bet-peor.
And we remained in the valley, opposite the shrine of Peor.”
